You, our members, made our first Christmas In July gift collection for our soldiers a great success! Because of the outpouring of gifts and interest we have decided to continue this special project! The gifts you bring will be shipped to our soldiers serving overseas so that they will receive them in time for Christmas.

There are many requested items that are needed and wanted by our troops. Below is a list of the items that can be donated, however, these are the only items that will be accepted.

REQUESTED ITEMS FOR CHRISTMAS IN JULY GIFT COLLECTION FOR OUR TROOPSThe following items are accepted and much needed by our troops. They are the ONLY items that will be accepted.

Mountain Credit Union supported Relay for Life in Buncombe, Haywood and Jackson counties. Staff members sold Fight Like A Girl t-shirts, candy bars, hot dogs, cupcakes, jewelry, memory/honor name cards and purple ribbons to raise money for the fundraiser. A gift basket was also raffled off. MCU employees attended the community Relay for Life events and sold pizza and drinks. Staff members attended the Relay for Life events in Asheville, Canton, Maggie Valley and Sylva.

The total amount raised for Relay for Life was $2,750.00.

“It is so rewarding to join in with the community to raise money for such a worthy cause”, said Karen Hall, MCU employee and Canton Relay for Life Recruitment & Retention Chairperson. “This is a cause that the community really supports because so many people have been touched by cancer. We are proud to be a part of the fundraising efforts!”

Regularly reviewing your credit report is a wise financial move. It enables you to keep track of your debts as well as check for errors and identity theft. Under federal law, you are entitled to a free copy of your credit report from

each of the three credit bureaus, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion, once every 12 months. The bureaus have established one central service for consumers to contact:

You can obtain your three reports all at once or stagger your requests throughout the year. Your credit score is not included with the report, although you can purchase it for a fee.

Beware ImitatorsThe Annual Credit Report Request Service is the only authorized source for your free annual credit reports from the three bureaus. You may have seen advertisements for other services claiming you can get your free credit report, but they usually require you to sign up for credit report monitoring or something else in order to get your “free” report.

Your Free Credit ReportThe Expedited Funds Availability Act (Act) sets forth requirements for the minimum amount of a check deposit that must be available for withdrawal by the following business day. An amendment to the Act provides that this minimum amount must be increased from $100.00 to $200.00.

Effective July 21, 2011, the Mountain Credit Union Funds Availability Policy Disclosure is amended as follows:

RESERVATION OF RIGHT TO HOLD — In some cases, we will not make all of the funds that you deposit by check available to you on the next business day after we receive your deposit. Funds may not be available until the second business day after the day of your deposit. However, the first $200.00 of your deposit will be available on the first business day after the day of your deposit. If we are not going to make all of the funds from your deposit available on the next business day, we will notify you at the time you make your deposit. We will also tell you when the funds will be available. If your deposit is not made directly to one of our employees or if we decide to take this action after you have left the premises, we will mail you the notice by the next business day after we receive your deposit. If you will need the funds from a deposit right away, you should ask us when the funds will be available. Please retain this amendment with the original Funds Availability Policy Disclosure provided to you. You are welcome to contact the Credit Union with any questions you may have regarding this change.
