Introduction

2D Linegrid has been added to Scia Engineer in version 2010. The functionality, however, is similar to 3D Linegrid from previous versions.

Settings of 2D Linegrid

Menu 3D Linegrid and 2D Linegrid are placed in Service Line Grid.

3D Linegrid is an old functionality that keeps its original properties. 2D Linegrid has been added in version 2010, but the Rectangular Grid type is derived from the old 3D Linegrid. Other 2D Linegrids are an adaptation of the shape of the Rectangular Grid.

Note:

Conditions for editing Linegrid in 3D model in different service menus – see chapter View parameters.

Free lines

- Name: standard property for all entities in Scia Engineer - Layer: standard property for all entities in Scia Engineer - Label: Description in the label - Label display: Position of the label according to Linegrid orientation - Draw label in: Shape of the label - Label shift: Distance of the label from Linegrid - Label rotation angle: Rotation of the label with respect to Linegrid

Free line is created as a Polyline – it is therefore in fact a standard functionality of Scia Engineer.

Example of Free line:

7

Rectangular Linegrid

Settings for the Rectangular Linegrid are similar to the settings for a 3D Linegrid. The table has two parts for different directions: x, y.

Page 9: 2D Line Grid

8

Input of the values can be done as Coor or Span: Example of a Rectangular Linegrid:

9

Circular Linegrid

Settings of Circular Linegrid in the x direction are similar to the settings for a 3D Linegrid. In the y direction the values are in degrees. The y-values can be input as Coor or Angle: Example of Circular Linegrid:

10

Explode

Explode functionality splits up the whole Linegrid to separate Free lines. The properties of Free line are displayed and can be modified, if required.

Note:

Function Explode is available only for 2D Linegrid.

2D Dimensions

There is a new functionality for adapting Linegrids in working plane. The user can create new 2D Dimension lines in service Line grid. Options are similar to the 3D Dimensions – Linear, Circular, and Angular.

View parameters

Linegrids have different behaviour for 3D window depending on whether tree menu Line grid is active or whether another menu is active. For the latter, Linegrid is non-editable. If the user still wants to edit it, he must say so in the View parameters settings (option Line grid editable must be set ON). View parameters of 3D window for other then Line grid menu active: View parameters of 3D window when Line grid service is active: 2D Linegrid is displayed for every storey. This can be changed by View parameters.

Displaying 2D Linegrid on one storey: Grid projection is disabled for all but one selected storey if one storey was selected in the “View parameters for selected” dialogue (The dialogue “View parameters for all” then shows a grey checkbox – see the image above).

Dimension line properties

Properties of the dimension line can be used for adjustment of the dimension line or for editing of the dimension style in the Dimension style manager. The Dimension style manager is also accessible from the properties of dimension line.

- Name: standard property for all entities in Scia Engineer - Layer: standard property for all entities in Scia Engineer - Style name: tells which predefined dimension style is used for creating dimension line - Type: Inactive, type of used dimension - Length: length of dimension line - Shape: says which standard tool was used for creating dimension line - Label prefix: this value can be used as prefix for the text label of dimension line - Display only prefix: here the user can choose if he wants to use only prefix on

selected dimension lines, then he will have all dimension with same text label on them - Label suffix: this value can be used as suffix for the text label of dimension line - Display units as suffix: if ON, units are automatically added as suffix to the text label of

dimension line

- Rotate angle: value specifying the rotation of the dimension line from the working plane, example with 25°

- Plotline offset type: Style, User defined – option Style is the plotline offset set

according to the value in the Dimension style manager, - option User defined– the user can set the value for the offset directly in the properties

- Extension line offset: value for the offset from the dimensioned point to the starting

point of the extension line

Page 18: 2D Line Grid

Scia Engineer

17

- Extension line: Short, Long – option Short means that the Extension line offset is

inactive and dimensions have short extension line, option Long means that the Extension line offset is active and the user can change it in the properties

- Dimension label: Above, Inline, Below – moves position of the text label

.

Dimension style manager

Definition of the Dimension style for dimension lines in 2D and 3D window is set in the Dimension style manager. It’s a standard database manager with possibility to save (load) styles to (from) format DB4. The Dimension style is used for creation of dimension lines when option Plotline offset type in the properties is set to Style.

- Name: standard property for all entities in Scia Segineer - Font from palette: text font used for dimension, adjustment is possible through Palette

settings - Select palette: defines

which palette will use adjusting, White background – 3D model, Graphic output – 2D window...

- Palette text definition: Values taken from Palette settings - Text width factor: width of text

Page 20: 2D Line Grid

- Plotline offset: offset of dimension line from selected nodes - Plotline offset angular: offset of dimension line for angular dimensions - Baseline spacing: offset between dimension lines for baseline dimension line - Endmark style: shape of end mark on dimension line - Size definition: settings for end mark – if it will be displayed according to the Graphic

device or Structure geometry - Endmark size: size definition for endmark - Extend beyond dimension: size of overlapping of extension line beyond the end mark,

it depends on Size definition
