DAY FOR DANIEL Thank you to Mrs Wilding, Miss Chapman and Mr Anderson who organised the Day for Daniel activities on Friday. Students raised $429.60 for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. Well done. The message from the day is RECOGNISE REACT REPORT which the Student Leadership Team and teachers have spoken to the students about last week.
ERINA LEARNING COMMUNITY
The Erina Learning Community is proud to present the biennial Creative and Performing Arts Festival, showcasing all of the amazing talent of students in our local primary and high schools! The spectacular show is filled with dance, drama, choir, band and multimedia performances that will captivate you until the very end. In addition, the hall space will house an exhibition of exemplar multimedia, visual art and textile and design creations.
Tickets on sale now. Adult tickets are $10 and children (under 12) $6. Please use the links below to access tickets through the Sticky Tickets Website: Matinee Performance - Thursday 15 November - www.stickytickets.com.au/78041 Evening Performance - Thursday 15 November - www.stickytickets.com.au/78040 Please note there are a couple of students from the Brisbania Senior Dance Group who will not be able to make the evening performance due to other dance commitments. If this concerns your child, please ensure you do not purchase tickets to the evening show. STUDENT TRANSPORT SCHEME – OPAL School student applications for 2019 open from Monday, 15 October 2018. Students progressing to Year 3 and Year 7 do not need to re-apply if they: · are continuing at the same school · are residing at the same address · have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW. Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification.
Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply. Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply. If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to: https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2018 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2018, the system will automatically cancel a card and a new one will need to be issued. Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out during December 2018 and January 2019. Students residing in Rural and Regional (R&R) areas should receive their travel pass at the commencement of the new school year from their nominated operator. Note: some R&R operators do not issue travel passes. Students should check with their operator for more information. Please see the attached information: https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/assets/documents/OPAL022_3-New_School_Digital-WCAG.PDF KINDY 2019 HEADSTART Transition runs each Friday until 16 November. Welcome to our 2019 Kindergarten and families. Thank you to our volunteers for their time in supporting our new Kindergarten students. Our Kindy 2019 were engaged and excited last Friday. Thank you to parents who attended the Orientation talk. BUSH FIRE SEASON and BRISBANIA PS The bushfire season runs from 1 October to 31 March each year. As such, it is timely to remind the community that Brisbania PS is in a bush fire prone area and is placed on the Bush Fire Register of the Department of Education (DoE). Should a catastrophic fire danger rating be issued, it is a DoE directive that the school be closed until the rating is lifted. Please be aware that the school will advise of closure via social media and the radio after 4:30pm the previous day. Staff would be required to report to the closest open school, while students are under parental supervision at home. REVERSE SANTA As is tradition at Brisbania, we will be holding our Reverse Santa on Friday 7 December. For those new to the school, a small new gift would be most appreciated. We then get the Saratoga rural fire brigade to pick up gifts for delivery to less fortunate children at Christmas. So if you are shopping, you might like to get this gift early. CENTRAL COAST DRAMA FESTIVAL 7 Stage Three students, Mrs Wilding and Miss Chapman will be attending the festival from Wednesday to Friday which will culminate in a performance on Friday at Niagara Park PS at 3:30pm. Enjoy the experience! NAPLAN ONLINE NAPLAN Platform Readiness Testing (PRT) for Year 3 and 5 will take again this next week. PRT is a test of the performance of the NAPLAN online platform and post-test processes, which include monitoring, reporting and quality assurance. It is not a test of the students’ current literacy and numeracy skills. Basically, we are testing that the online testing system will work in our school. It will also provide the students with the opportunity to experience the online system, which will no doubt benefit them when they sit the online tests in Year 5 and 7 in 2020. Thanks to Mr Lemmon, Ms Howarth and Mrs Vanderstichel for coordinating the PRT. COMMUNITY CONCERNS MOSQUITOES - Unfortunately, the planned spraying for mosquitoes could not be done in the holidays due to the unpredictable weather. At present, the mosquitoes are extremely bad and students are reminded to bring insect repellent each day. The school is working with representatives from the Department of Education on a revised risk assessment and possible ways to combat the mosquitoes. BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE INCIDENT- An incident occurred at our Before and After School Care last week. Two boys used highly inappropriate language towards a much younger girl, which is wholly inappropriate and both boys have been expelled from Before and After School Care. The centre is independent of the Department of Education and there is a committee that governs the response to incidents at the centre. The school and centre communicate regularly and should an incident at either occur that would impact the other, notification is made. Please be assured that the school is monitoring the students involved last week, caregivers have been notified and action has been taken. The Before and After School Care centre will not tolerate inappropriate and threatening behaviour and their response has been swift and appropriate. This incident is highly confidential and out of respect for the families involved, we ask that you refrain from discussing this incident as this only spreads rumours that exaggerate the truth.

All assistance will be very gratefully accepted. NAIDOC Celebrations Last Thursday, all students were involved in a jam-packed day of cultural activities to celebrate our annual Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Week. The theme “Because of Her, We Can” looked at the important role that women play in today’s society from our mothers, grandmothers, aunties, sisters and daughters and those who have paved the way for all of us to have a greater future. All students participated in story-telling, bush-tucker tasting, girls dance, boy’s didgeridoo, Indigenous games, art and craft activities. They all had a fantastic day. Students also donated a gold coin for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation to support literacy in rural and remote Indigenous communities. The amount of $350.00 was raised. Thanks to students for their support. Our Senior Aboriginal students led the assembly and acknowledged our community members who assisted to make the day a huge success. One of the most important aspects of the day was a smoking ceremony performed by Uncle Sharkey and Uncle Phil from our community. The students were mesmerised by the performance. Huge thanks go to all staff and students for your support in promoting this wonderful day of celebration for our First Nations peoples.
SWIM SCHEME Swim Scheme 2018 begins for two weeks today. Students will leave at 12:15pm for the pool and arrive back at school by 2:30pm. Thank you to Mr Stott for organising. Please refer to the note sent home regarding change of lunch time and what students need to wear and take to the lessons each day.
SECURITY Our school security hotline is 1300 880 021. Please call the hotline if you see or hear anyone on the premises out of school hours. Have a great week. Annette Parrey YEAR 6 FAREWELL Thank you to all families who took the time to drop into our Year 6 Farewell Fundraiser BBQ on Saturday at Mitre 10, Kincumber. And a BIG THANK YOU to the parents who volunteered their time to cook the BBQ and manage the stall. We raised $595 from the BBQ, and an extra $66 worth of raffle tickets were sold on the day.

Tickets are now on sale for our Christmas Bingo. It is at the Davo on Saturday 17 November at 6.30pm so organise a bunch of friends and join us for a fun night to mark the end of a successful year! Tickets are $10 and are on sale either on Flexischools (please give table name) or from the office (send in the money, number of tickets required, table name and child’s name and class so that we send you your tickets). We can accommodate tables of up to 12 people but you are more than welcome to have a smaller table too. If you are able to donate a small prize for the evening (or can speak to someone who can) please let me know - all help is most gratefully received. In the lead up to Christmas, I’d like to remind people that if you are shopping at Rebel West Gosford (formerly Amart Sports) they have a loyalty program that earns Schools and Clubs vouchers to spend in their store. It is, however, only valid at that store. If you do shop there please remember to mention the school - it doesn't cost you anything and is a no-work fundraiser for us. In the past 2 years we have purchased good quality netballs, soccer ball and footy balls for the school teams to use for training. We have also purchased prizes for raffles and also for the fete. We are having our annual VIP shopping night at Casey’s Toys on Wednesday 7 November. This is always a good opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts (and Reverse Santa gifts) without having to battle the crowds. Casey’s very kindly provide drinks and nibbles so it’s an enjoyable experience and we get vouchers to the value of 20% of all purchases. In previous years these have been used for resources for the Kindy rooms, new games for the refurbished library and also as prizes for raffles. Our AGM is at 6.30pm on Tuesday 20 November. If you are a financial member please consider standing for an executive position - all positions are declared vacant at the meeting and nominations will be taken for all positions. Our current secretary and treasurer have resigned so we definitely need new people for these roles. We also need a new Uniform Shop Co-ordinator as the amazing Julie Hale who has done this job for many years is leaving the school (well, her youngest child is heading to high school). If you would like any information about any of these roles please contact me and we can have a chat.
