Please refer to the above Request for Tender (RFT) document in your possession and be advised of the following: I. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

II. QUESTIONS/ANSWERS AND RELATED REVISIONS Q1: What is the Importance Factor? A1: Seismic Importance Factor: 1.0 Q2: What is the site class? A2: Seismic site class: D Q3: The specifications are not clear on what is required for the steel preparation and primer/paint.
The pre-eng manufacturer’s standard steel prep. is SP-2 and every manufacturer has their own standard primer. Please verify that this is sufficient and that any final painting requirements are to be done on-site. If the standard is not sufficient please indicate what the steel prep. is and the primer/finish paint requirements. Please take note that changing the standard assembly would be a very substantial cost especially on such a small building.
A3: Premium finish is required. All painting is to be done in shop, not on site. Exterior colour of the maintenance building is to match the colours of existing buildings on site. Custom colour is required.
Q4: The wall and roof assemblies indicate a vapour barrier on the inside face of the liner panel; please
indicate what type of material is required as the vapor barrier. A4: Vapour barrier to be VRR or equal as specified by metal building designer/manufacturer. Q5: The pre-eng spec. under roof construction specifies the possibility of a fire rated roof. Does the
roof need to be fire rated, if so what is the rating? A5: Fire rating to be as per OBC. Building permit to be obtained by the General Contractor.

Q6: The data matrix is tough to read, I am assuming that sprinklers are not required? A6: No sprinklers are required in the control building. Q7: Two trench drain manufacturers have been specified in drawing S1 & M4. Which manufacturer
to be included for the tender? A7: Either trench drain is acceptable.
Q8: What is the height of closet sliding door? (As per drawing A8 – 1.6m. As per 4/A2 – 2.2m)
A8: Closet Door height: 2200 mm
Q9: Provide size of steel beam/plate lintel shown in detail 3/A7. A9: W200x21 + 10 thick plate. Length to suit width of door. Width of plate to suit wall thickness. veneer on plywood.
Q15: Drawing S1 – Perimeter grade beam – Provide width, detail of top & bottom longitudinal reinforcement, stirrup details, skin reinforcement detail & pier reinforcements.
A15: Foundation design is conceptual only to indicate foundation preference and to provide specific mechanical requirements. Detailed custom design suited to the building being supplied; sealed by a structural engineer are to be provided by the building designer. Foundation Permit revision submission to be undertaken by the General Contractor.
Q16: Drawing S1 – Interior grade beam – Provide detail of top longitudinal reinforcement. A16: Foundation design is conceptual only to indicate foundation preference and to provide specific
mechanical requirements. Detailed custom design suited to the building being supplied; sealed by a structural engineer are to be provided by the building designer.
Q17: Who will remove asbestos containing materials from the existing low pressure building?

A17: The contractor is responsible for the removal of all designated substances including asbestos as
summarized within the ‘Safetech Environmental Ltd’ “Project Specific Hazardous Materials Assessment” report included within the Specifications Section 5A.
Q18: What is the R value of pre-engineering building exterior walls & roof. Provide detail of overhead
doors (fire rating & Insulation) A18: Walls and roof R-20, overhead door R-7. Fire rating to be determined by the Building Designer. Q19: Provide specification of window blind shown in drawing A8. A19: Window blinds to be supplied by the window manufacturer as specified (Kawner) Q20: Drawing A1 – 900x450x1500mm chromate wire shelving – Is this a Cash Allowance item? A20: Yes. Q21: Where is the water table? A21: Assume Elevation 75.00 m Q22: Do you have soil investigation report? A22: There is no project specific geotechnical report as the Maintenance building is positioned over
back fill material adjacent to the existing sedimentation tanks. Rock elevation is noted on the attached reference drawing (D-2649).
Q23: Drawing A3 – What type of restoration required for existing exterior brick & stone band? A23: Design intent is to clean the brick and stone from dirt and stains and to repoint joints where
required. The General Contractor is to retain a brick restoration specialist to recommend a proper cleaning method. A small mock-up of an area of cleaned brick is to be prepared for Architect approval before proceeding with cleaning.
Q24: Can you please identify the lighting fixture type L6, shown on drawing E-5? It is not identified
within the luminaire schedule provided. A24: Please add the following lighting fixture type and description to the lighting schedule shown on
drawings E6:

Q25: I have noticed there is a schedule of 3 louvers shown on dwg1021-2011-05-24 however there is a
4th louver 1830mm x 3000mm shown on this attached dwg. I do not see this on any of the elevation views or have a model number could you please confirm.

attached. Q29: Drawing G5, Section A-A shows typical section of foundation. This is different from the detail
shown in structural drawing S1. Please clarify? A29: Drawing G5 is the environmental drawing as approved by the TRCA and provides the
environmental protection to be undertaken by the contractor. Disregard the foundation section as it was a preliminary design.
Q30: Pre-engineering building – What is the R value of roof & wall. What is the gauge of roof liner &
wall liner? What is the Collateral load? A30: For R- Values, see response to Item No. 18. Wall and roof liner to be 24 gauge.
Collateral load: 0.25 kPa Q31: Is there a geotechnical investigation? A31: Refer to Question No. 22 above. Q32: The total number of both pre-production tests and proof tests as per section 02164 is unclear.
Please clarify the type and quantity of each load test required. A32: Tests, per se, are not necessary but the installer of the helical piles will have to provide a report
(detailing the capacity and the method used to determine the capacity of the installed piles) sealed by a Professional Engineer.
Q33: On dwg S1 there is a note stating that the helical piers are to be installed down to rock. It also
says refer to existing reference drawings for approximate rock elevation. I cannot find anywhere that shows the approximate rock elevation. Do you know where I may find this?
A33: Refer to the reference drawing cross section – D-2649. Q34: On the structural drawing S1, Existing Control Building Floor Plan, and Section B, there is a new
concrete slab to be installed with Hilti bolts to the existing concrete slab. There are also steel support beams shown on architectural drawings A2, Section 3/A2 with reference structural

drawings for details. We would like to know beam support details with beam sizes, sketched/drawings, metal deck type, size, thickness (if applicable for composite slab type) and connection details beam to concrete slab/wall. Please provide.
A34: Delete steel beams as shown on drawing A2, Section 3/A2. The structural design is complete as
shown on Drawing S1. Q35: Specification Section 14630 – Overhead Travelling Cranes
a. Clause 7.2.2 – States to support underhung crane runway but on page 12 of 14 of Division 14 it states a single girder top running crane is required. Impact: Significant difference in the design of the runway and crane components used. Please clarify design.
A35a: Answer: The crane is a single girder top running crane as indicated on crane data sheets pages
12/14 and 13/14.
Delete Section 7.2.2 and replace with revised Section 7.2.2 as follows: ‘Support crane runway rails by a suspension system consisting of fittings, clamps, braces and all connection hardware which will permit runway rails to adjust to normal fluctuations of weight occurring as crane travels along rails. Design suspension system for connecting the runways to the building structure. Furnish slotted holes and shims for lateral and vertical rail adjustment. Brace rails laterally to prevent excess motion of runway. Brace rails longitudinally.’ b. Clause 8.4 – Catwalk is specified to be used for crane maintenance and re-lamping Impact – A catwalk cannot be constructed on a single girder crane. Design would have to be changed to a double girder configuration. Please clarify design.
A35b. It is acknowledged that some manufacturers cannot construct a catwalk on a single girder crane.
Manufacturers as listed within the specifications are capable of constructing a catwalk on a single girder crane.
c. Clause 8.10 – Run-out crane beam is specified at a run out distance of 2.75m Impact - Please clarify either a top running or under running setup. This type of customization is suited for a Under Running Crane.
A35c. Delete Section 8.10.
d. Clause 10.1.4 – Electrical and mechanical load brake requested Question – Is secondary electrical brake acceptable in lieu of mechanical load brake? Impact - The mechanical load brake uses old technology and limits your options with regards to choices for hoisting machinery. Today, there are not many manufacturers that use mechanical load braking around the world and the manufacturers specified in section 6.0 do not sell this equipment as standard. The regenerative controlled braking means of a squirrel cage motor is an acceptable means of controlled braking as per CMAA.
A35d. Electrical or mechanical load brakes may be incorporated. Q36: Who will remove the existing wood deck (which is used for closing the floor opening) & concrete
curb around the floor opening at low pressure blower building? These items are not shown in the drawings.
A36: All removals are by the General Contractor.

Q37: Do we need to get any permit (including building permit) for the works in control building and other works (other than for maintenance building)?
A37: Building permit for the control building is in place. Any other permits if required are by GC. Q38: In regards to the Humbler Treatment Plant, please verify the importance category to use. In
section 13127.7(2) it is specified to use a Group F3 – Low Risk Industrial Occupancy (part 3 of NBCC). This is absolutely not the same as the importance category which falls under Part 4 of the NBCC. Typically the NBCC specifies public water treatment/storage facilities and pump stations as Post Disaster.
A38: See response to question 1.
Q39: We need more details on the cladding that is to be used (gauge, type, color). Please confirm these.

13.0 Equipment
.1 Electric Motor: Heavy duty, high torque, ball-bearing type, worm geared,600V, 3-phase, 60 Hz operation, complete with (c/w) electric interlock mechanism, push button control and overload protection device.
.2 Provide explosion proof motor rated for Division 1, Class 1 Group D on each coiling door to be installed in the following areas:
.1 On all overhead coiling doors on the new headworks building. Refer to Contract Drawing.
.3 Operation
.1 Equip coiling doors for electric operation and provide the following:
1. Jackshaft type operator with electric motor of size recommended by the door manufacturer.
2. Prewired control panel, housing fused disconnect, starter and transformer.
3. Precision micro switches
4. Adjustable automatic friction clutch.
5. Electro-mechanical safety bar at bottom of door activating instant reverse action if door meet an obstruction.
6. Auxiliary hand chain hoist incorporated through operator.
7. Keyed control station with stainless steel face plate and OPEN - STOP - CLOSE button and pilot light. Closing shall require constant pressure on control button - exterior of building.
8. Control panel for the door operator shall be of the push button type for up/down/stop control and surface mounted on the inside wall.
9. Provide a remote control system complete with four (4) remote control devices for each door.
14.0 Components
.1 Curtain Slat: 1.2 mm thick galvanized steel sheet; 19 mm deep flat profile; 62 mm OC spacing; cores filled with foamed-in-place urethane insulation for a total thermal resistance of RSI 1.3.
.2 Bottom Slat: galvanized steel; double angle bar with loop-type vinyl weatherstrip.
