Developing Social Enterprise in Angus Planning Event in Angus

Friday 2nd February 2018

VAA Forfar 9:30am – 1pm, 1pm lunch and networking

Voluntary Action Angus , Angus Council and Dundee Social Enterprise Network have been working together to draft a new social enterprise strategy for Angus. The draft strategy is attached to the email you received this bulletin in. This builds on the local and national momentum and seeks to help ensure the growth of the social enterprise movement in Angus. To develop this further and extend support opportunities for social enterprise growth we need your help in creating an action plan. A number of social enterprise support provider agencies will be represented on the day. The event will be facilitated by partners who have been involved in developing the strategy. This is an important event where we can help identify: - What support do social enterprises need/want in Angus? - What support is currently potentially available in Angus? - What needs to happen to increase the growth of social enterprise in Angus? From 1pm to 2pm lunch will be provided and provide an opportunity to network with colleagues. Arbroath Area Organisations

Voluntary Action Angus are carrying out a consultation with all organisations in Angus to ensure our services best suit the needs of organisations and people in Angus.

We are holding a drop in sessions next Wednesday at our Arbroath office from 2pm-4pm where you are welcome to come along and have a chat with our new Locality Worker for Arbroath and area, Carol Torrance.

We will also have a member of staff available to discuss SQA and various learning

opportunities.

Spiritual Care Listener—”Helping people (re)discover hope and inner strength in times of illness, change and loss”. Can you be a good listener? Can you help someone explore what they are going through? Listening to people’s concerns can help them feel less isolated and anxious while helping them feel more helpful and valued.

Volunteers can play a vital role supporting the work of the Department of Spiritual Care in their work often being the initial point of contact.

Digital mogul to discuss foundations work in Scotland

One of the world’s richest men will travel to Edinburgh this week to discuss how agricultural research is helping communities worldwide.

Bill Gates will visit Edinburgh University on Friday (26 January) to talk about how the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation invests in

projects in Scotland.

Homeless projects £1.6 million funding boost

A total of £1.6 million will be invested in projects which aim to tackle homelessness and provide housing for the most vulnerable.

The money from the Scottish Government’s Housing Voluntary Grant Scheme will be split between 17 projects.

Garfield Weston Foundation - Weston Anniversary Fund (New Fund)

To celebrate the Foundation’s 60th anniversary this one-off capital fund of up to £150,000 has been launched.

To celebrate the Foundation’s 60th anniversary the Weston Anniversary Fund will award grants to provide new or improve existing

community facilities. Unlike the Foundation’s other funds the Anniversary Fund will consider funding the entirety of a project. Capital

projects will be bricks and mortar such as a new building or an extension or remodelling to an existing building that will create or improve

a community facility. They will also consider landscaping or improvements to an open space if it will create a community resource.

Additionally they will consider items that require a sizeable investment such as a new minibus and purchase of land.

ERDF - Green Infrastructure Community Engagement Fund

Round 2 of the Green Infrastructure Community Engagement Fund is now open for applications.

The fund aims to help deprived urban communities with populations of more than 10,000 make better use of their greenspace, or to

develop their own ideas for how it could be improved. They are looking to fund projects which have a clear legacy and positive impacts

which will be realised beyond the period of GICEF money being provided. These projects may be the first step towards further green

infrastructure being developed, more extensive community engagement or complementary to wider plans and strategies for the

community. Approaches could be art-based, citizen science, participation and activity, volunteering and skills development, nature and

ecosystem based. The second round of this fund aims to fund at least 5 projects throughout Scotland.
