What a holiday we have in store for you! Step aboard the Murray Princess at the historic river port of Mannum in South Australia and you step aboard the grand old lady of the river and into a bygone era.

In the second part of the tour we visit Kangaroo Island. Kangaroo Island, because of its variety and abundance of wildlife, has often been described as a "zoo without fences".

Itinerary 26 October – 02 November 2020 Day 1 Mon 26 October Brisbane – Adelaide - Mannum [In-Flight Meals/D]

Welcome to our 8-day tour to South Australia featuring a 4-night cruise on the Murray Princess and 3 nights on Kangaroo Island. This morning we will be transferred from the Brisbane Airport for our direct flight to Adelaide. On arrival we will be met by our local touring coach which takes us to Mannum for boarding the PS Murray Princess. Heading upriver we enjoy pre-dinner drinks and a welcome dinner. As we cruise under floodlight to our overnight mooring at Caurnamont, we may see nocturnal wildlife on the riverbank. Our on-board entertainer provides music for the night owls. Accommodation: Captain Cook Murray Princess - 4 Nights’ in Outside Cabins

Day 2 Tue 27 October Murray River Cruise [B/L/D]

This morning is a good time for the keen photographers to be out to capture the special light and the morning movement of wildlife. Prolific birdlife includes pelicans, blue wrens and black swans. Enjoy a leisurely morning and lunch cruising upriver to Blanchetown through one of the 13 locks which maintain the flow and levels of water. This afternoon we moor near Salter’s Station for our overnight anchorage. As the last rays of the sun fade, we join a guided tour of Burk Salter’s vineyard on the banks of the river and enjoy wine tasting at the cellar door. Tonight, enjoy all the fun and excitement of the Murray River Cup. This is always a fun event. Day 3 Wed 28 October Murray River Cruise [B/L/D]

After breakfast we cruise downriver to Swan Reach. The town was first settled in the 1850s and was originally the largest of five sheep and cattle stations in the area. The original Swan Reach homestead is now the Swan Reach Hotel. We join the guided walking tour and visit the Swan Reach Museum. After lunch we cruise downriver and take in the tranquillity as the landscape slides by. We arrive at Sunnydale and head ashore for the Woolshed Show. Later we visit the Native Wildlife Shelter where some of South Australia’s most interesting native animals are cared for. And then, of course, there is the great Aussie Barbecue – cooked and served in a bush setting on the banks of the mighty Murray River. Day 4 Thu 29 October Murray River Cruise [B/L/D]

Today the ship cruises slowly downstream past magnificent cliffs scoured by the river over millions of years. We reach Ngaut Ngaut Aboriginal Reserve, one of Australia’s most significant archaeological sites, for a step back in time – tens of thousands of years – for a guided boardwalk to view ancient rock carvings and to learn about aboriginal history in the area. We return to the ship to cruise downriver to Younghusband. Along the way, adventure seekers can also take a speed boat ride. We pass large billabongs, open expanses of water, surrounded by cliffs and reeds. Tonight, the Captain and his officers host a spectacular Farewell Captain’s Buffet Dinner where we can dress up and dance the night away.

Day 5 Fri 30 October Mannum – Kangaroo Island [B/D]

This morning after breakfast, PS Murray Princess arrives at Mannum, where we reluctantly say farewell to the river. We reboard our coach and head onto the Fleurieu Peninsula and Cape Jervis – the departure point for the ferry service across to Kangaroo Island. It takes just 50 minutes to complete the crossing to Penneshaw. Once the coach is unloaded, we head to our accommodation base for the next three nights. Hotel: Kangaroo Island Seaside Inn - 3 Nights’ Accommodation Day 6 Sat 31 October Natural Kangaroo Island [B/L/D]

There are two major wildlife areas we have planned to visit today – Seal Bay and the Flinders Chase National Park. We make our way to the famous Seal Bay for a chance to walk on the beach amongst the colony of Australian Sea Lions who live here all year round. It is an unforgettable experience to be guided by a National Parks Ranger, along the beach, within metres of the bulls, cows and pups as they rest on the beach. We then head towards the south western end of Kangaroo Island with a stop for lunch along the way. This afternoon we visit the Flinders Chase National Park, Remarkable Rocks, Cape du Couedic and Admirals Arch where, via a spectacular board walk, we can see close up a colony of New Zealand Fur Seals who live in the sea and the rocks just below us. At Rocky River we should see plenty of Cape Barren Geese and maybe a Tamar Wallaby or two.

Day 7 Sun 01 November Kangaroo Island Ventures [B/L/D]

We have planned to visit a number of small and unusual Kangaroo Island attractions today. This morning we will visit a few unique ventures. First one is Clifford’s Honey Farm – home to Kangaroo Island’s own population of Ligurian bees (the only pure strain in the world) producing 10,000 kilograms of delectable honey each year. The bees were imported in 12 hives from the Italian province of Liguria in the 1880s and remain protected from other breeds of bee by the island’s isolation. We then move onto the Raptor Domain where we see a wonderful Birds of Prey demonstration in a natural setting. After the show we stay for lunch before making our way to our next visit at Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery where we take a product tour before travelling to Kingscote. Back to our accommodation for our final night on the Island and on tour.

Day 8 Mon 02 November Kangaroo Island - Brisbane [In-Flight Meals/B]

This morning, we make our way back to Penneshaw to connect with the mid-morning ferry service to Cape Jervis (departs at 10.30am). Once back on the mainland, we travel the 90 minutes to the Adelaide Airport to connect with our flight home. On arrival into Brisbane, we part ways as we travel home.
