Review of Commodities Trade

Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd., Mumbai

During the period from 02.04.2007 to 13.04.2007, 32 commodities were traded at the Exchange. Out of these,Copper, Gold and Silver had the highest volumes of trade.

Copper

30th April 2007, 29th June 2007 and 31st August 2007 contracts were traded at the Exchange during the

fortnight. The near month contracts (i.e. 30th April 2007) were quoted at its highest at Rs.343.15 per Kg. on 12.04.2007

and at its lowest at Rs.299.65 per Kg. on 02.04.2007 during the fortnight. During the fortnight the total value of tradewas Rs.22970.627Cr. The net open position in the near month contract was at its highest at 11409 MT on 12.04.2007.

Gold

5th April 2007, 5th June 2007, 4th August 2007 and 5th October 2007 contracts were traded at the Exchange

during the fortnight. The near month contract (i.e. 5th June 2007) were quoted at its highest at Rs.9598.00/- per 10 gm

on 10.04.2007 and at its lowest at Rs.9425.00/- on 02.04.2007 during the fortnight. During the fortnight the total value

of traded in all varieties was Rs.18893.287Cr. The net open position in the near month contract was at its highest at8366 Kg on 13.04.2007.

Silver

5th May 2007, 5th July 2007 and 5th September 2007 contracts were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight.

The near month contract (i.e. 5th May 2007) were quoted at its highest at Rs.20039.00/- per Kg. on 11.04.2007 and at its

lowest at Rs.19130.00/- on 02.04.2007 during the fortnight. During the fortnight the total value of traded in all varietieswas Rs.17419.009Cr. The net open position in the near month contract was at its highest at 351090 Kg. on 12.04.2007.

National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited, Mumbai

During the period from 02.04.2007 to 14.04.2007, 30 commodities were traded at the Exchange. Out of these,

Pepper, Jeera, and Chana had the highest volumes of trade.

Pepper

20th April 2007 to 19th October 2007 contracts were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near

month contracts (i.e. 20th April 2006) were quoted at its highest at Rs.16274.00/-per 100 Kg on 12.04.2007 and at its

lowest at Rs.13745.00/- on 03.04.2007 during the fortnight. During the fortnight the total value of trade was

Rs.11667.604Cr. The net open position in the near month contract was at its highest at 5568 MT on 02.04.2007.

Jeera

20th April 2007 to 20th July 2007 contracts were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near month

contracts (i.e. 20th April 2006) were quoted at its highest at Rs.13948.90/-per 100Kg on 13.04.2007 and at its lowest at

Rs.12729.90/- on 04.04.2007 during the fortnight. During the fortnight the total value of trade was Rs.7840.342Cr. The

net open position in the near month contract was at its highest at 12183 MT on 02.04.2007.

Chana20th April 2007 to 20th September 2007 contracts were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near

month contracts (i.e. 20th April 2007) were quoted at its highest at Rs.2475.00/- per 100 Kg on 05.04.2007 and at its

lowest at Rs.2342.00/- at 03.04.2007 during the fortnight. During the fortnight the total value of trade was

Rs.7313.300Cr. The net open position in the near month contract was at its highest at 34430 MT on 03.04.2007.

National Multi-Commodity Exchange of India Ltd., Ahmedabad

During the fortnight ended on 14.4.2007, 9 commodities were traded at the Exchange, out of these, Pepper,

Rubber and Lead had the highest Volumes of trade.

PepperApril 2007to September 2007 contracts in Pepper were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near

month contracts (i.e. April 2007) was quoted at its highest at Rs. 15635/- per 100 Kg on 12.4.2007 and lowest at

Rs.13150/- on 4.4.2007. The total value of the contracts traded during the said period was valued Rs.1604.12 Crores.

The net open position in the near month contract was at its highest at 359 MT on 12.4.2007.

RubberApril 2007 to July 2007 contracts in Rubber were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near month

contracts price (i.e. April 2007) was quoted at its highest at Rs. 9500/- per 100 kg 7.4.2007 and lowest at Rs.8975/- on

14.4.2007. The total value of the contracts traded during the said period was valued at Rs. 176.34/- Crores. The net

open position in the near month contract was highest at 4591 MT on 2.4.2007.

Lead

April 2007 to June 2007 contracts in Lead were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near monthcontracts (i.e. April 2007) was quoted at its highest at Rs. 89/- per 1 kg on 9.4.2007 and lowest at Rs.81/- on 2.4.2007.

The total value of the contracts traded during the said period was valued at Rs. 96.46/- Crores. The net open position in

the near month contract was Nil.

Bikaner Commodity Exchange Ltd.

Gaurseed

During the fortnight Gaurseed May 2007contract was traded. The near month contract i.e. May 07 was quoted

at its highest on 14.4.2007 (at Rs. 405.00 per 20 Kg) and lowest on 3.4.2007 (at Rs. 387.00). During the period, the

total value of Gaurseed traded was Rs.23.05 crores. The net open position in the near month contract was highest on11.4.2007(250Tonnes).

Mustardseed

In Mustard seed there was no trading during the fortnight.

Bombay Commodity Exchange Ltd; MumbaiDuring the fortnight castor seed,the near month contract i.e. June 07 at its highest price on 12.4. 2007 at Rs

2235.00 per 100 Kg. and lowest price on 2.4.2007 at Rs. 2123.00. During the period the total value of Castor seed for

the June 07 delivery traded was Rs 1.02 crores. The net open position in the near month contract was nil.

RBD Palmolien

No trading in RBD Palmolien was reported during the fortnight.

First Commodity Exchange Ltd., Kochi

Coconut Oil

April 2007 to July 2007 Coconut Oil hedge contracts were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near

month contract i.e. April 2007 was quoted at its highest on 12.4.2007 (Rs 4750 /-per 100 kg.) and its lowest on 5.4.2007

(Rs. 4475/- per 100 kg.) During the fortnight the total value of trade was Rs. 8.65 corers. The net open position in the

April2007contract was at its highest on 3.4.2007 (202 Tonnes).

The Bullion Association Ltd., Jaipur

The Exchange has not shown any interest in trade in Mustard seed.

April 2007 to September 2007 hedge contracts were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near

month contract i.e. April 2007 was quoted at its highest on 12.4.2007 (Rs. 15950 /- per 100 kg.) and its lowest on

2.4.2007 (Rs. 13700/-per 100 kg.) During the fortnight the total value of trade was Rs. 2.67 corers. The net openposition in the April 2007 contract was nil during the fortnight.

May 2007 Sugar-M hedge contract was traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. There was no trading from

May 2007 was traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. There was no trading from 1.4.2007 to 15.4.2007 in

East India Cotton Association Ltd; Mumbai

There was no trading reported at the exchange in respect of Cotton.

Chamber of Commerce, HapurGur and Mustard seed contracts were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight.

Gur

May 07 Gur hedge contract was traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near month contract i.e. May

2007was quoted at its highest on 6.4.07 at Rs.1088.75 per quintal andat its lowest on 3.4.07at Rs. 1080.00 per quintal

during the fortnight. During the fortnight the total value of trade wasRs.65.27 crores.The net open position in the near

month May 2007 contract was Nil.

Mustard seed

May 07contracts was traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The May 2007contractwas quoted at its

highest on 12.4.07 at Rs.2204 per quintaland at its lowest on 9.4.07 at Rs. 2134 per quintalduring the fortnight. During

the fortnight the total value of trade wasRs. 968.76 crores. The net open position in the near month contract was at its

highest at 1396 tones on 3.4.07.

May 2007 Gur hedge contractwas traded at the Exchange only on 13.4.07 during the fortnight. The near month

contract i.e. May -07 was quoted at its highest on 12.4.07 at Rs. 1210 per quintal and its lowest at Rs. 1198.75 per

quintal . During the fortnight the total value of trade traded was Rs. 0.096 crores. The net open position in the nearmonth May 2007contract was highest at 64 Tones on 12.4.07.

During the fortnight Gur the near month contract i.e. May 07 contract was quoted during the period. At its

highest price on 10.4 .2007 at Rs. 1256.63 per 100 Kg. and lowest price on 5.4.2007 at Rs. 1211.00. During the period the

total value of Gur traded was Rs 12.25 crores. The net open position in the near month contract was highest on 11.4.2007(892 Tonnes)

Meerut Agro Commodities Exchange, Meerut.

During the fortnight Gur May 2007 was traded. The near month contract i.e. May 07 was quoted at its highest on

7.4. 2007 (at Rs. 1113.50 per 100 Kg) and lowest on 12.4.2007 (at Rs. 1092.00). During the period, the total value of

Gur traded was Rs. 8.74 crores. The net open position in the near month contract was highest on 10.4 .2007 (408

Tonnes).

During the fortnight the near month contract i.e. May 2007 was quoted at its highest on 6.4.2007(at Rs. 1968.00

per 100 Kg. and lowest on 2.4.2007 at Rs. 1955.00. During the period the total value of Mustard seed traded was

Rs. 6.77 crores. The net open position in the near month contract was nil during the period.

During the fortnight Gur the near month contract i.e. May 07 contract was quoted during the period, at its

highest price on 14.4.2007 at Rs. 1182.50 per 100 Kg, and lowest price on 2.402007 at Rs. 1148.00. During the period

the total value of Rs. 4.58 traded. The net open position in the near month contract was highest on 2.4.2007 (260Tonnes)

Rape seed / Mustardseed

During the fortnight May 2007 contract was traded at the Exchange. The near month contract i.e. May 2007 was

quoted at its highest on 14.4.2007 at Rs. 2127.50 per 100 Kg. and lowest on 9.4.2007 on Rs.2060.50. During the period

the total value of Mustard seed traded was Rs. 22.67crores. The net open position in the near month contract was

highest on 12.4 .2007 (94 Tones).

Ahmedabad Commodity Exchange Ltd., Ahmedabad

Castor Seed

April 2007 and June 2007 Castor seed hedge contracts were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The

near month contract i.e. April 2007 was quoted at its highest on 12.4.07 (Rs. 2100 per 100 kg.) and its lowest on 2.4.07

(Rs. 2004 per 100 kg.) During the fortnight the total value of trade was Rs. 251.73 crores. The net open position in thenear month April- 2007 contract was highest on 2.4.07 (2810 tones).

(Rs.2132/- per 100 kg.) During the fortnight the total value of trade was Rs. 356.55 crores. The net open position in the

Mustard seed and Mustard Oil Cake contracts are traded at the Exchange.

Mustard seed

During the fortnight Mustard seed May 2007 contract was traded at the Exchange. The near month contract i.e.

May 2007 was quoted at its highest on 12.4.07 (at Rs. 1964 per 100 Kg.) and lowest on 7.4.07 (at Rs.1915 per 100 kg.).During the period the total value of Mustard seed traded was Rs. 60.52 crores. The net open position in the near month

May-07 contract was highest on 9.4.07(2624 Tones).

Mustard oil cake

During the fortnight Mustard oil cake May 07 contract was traded at the Exchange. The near month contract i.e.

May -07 was quoted at its highest on 3.4.07 (at Rs. 710 per 100 Kg) and lowest on 7.4.07 (at Rs. 700 per 100 kg.). During

the period the total value of Mustard oil cake traded was Rs. 0.52 crores. The net open position in the near month

contract was highest on 13.4.07 (250 Tones).

National Board Of Trade, Indore

Crude Palm Oil

No trading was reported at the Exchange in Crude Palm oil during the fortnight.

Soy BeanMay -2007 contract of Soy Bean was traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near month contract i.e.

May 2007 was quoted at its highest on 14.4.2007 (Rs.1565/- per 100 kg.) and at its lowest on 12.4.2007 (Rs.1515/- per

100 kg.) During the fortnight the total value of trade was Rs. 0.92 crores. The net open position in the May - 2007

contract was at its highest on 12.4.2007 (200 Tonnes).

Soy Oil

April 2007 to June 2007 contracts of soy oil were traded at the Exchange during the fortnight. The near month

contract i.e. April 2007 was quoted at its highest on 6.4.2007 (at Rs. 482.40 per 10 Kg.) and the lowest on 3.4.2007 (at

Rs. 468.30 per 10 Kg). During the period the total value of soy oil was Rs. 3923.51 crores. The net open position in the

April - 2007 contract was highest on 4.4.2007 (36550 Tonnes).

Mustard/Rape seed

No trading was reported at the Exchange in Mustard seed during the fortnight.

During the fortnight Tutmeric,the near month contract i.e. May 2007 contract was quoted at its highest price on

2.4.2007 at Rs 2325.00 per 100 Kg. and lowest price on 4.4.2007 at Rs. 2270.00. During the period the total value

of Turmeric for the May 07 delivery traded was Rs 12.56 crores. The net open position in the near month contract

was nil.

During the fortnight Kapas March/April 2007 contract was traded at the Exchange. The near month contract i.e.

March/April 2007 was quoted at its highest on 2.4.07 (at Rs.465.80 per 20 Kg) and lowest on 14.4.07 (at Rs. 452.20 per

20 kg.). During the period the total value of Kapas traded was Rs. 0.59 crores. The net open position in the near month

contract was Nil.
