Evaluation Studies

Goal: • To gain a better understanding of the workings of

prevention activities aimed at the promotion of safer sex and targeting various groups of MSM and WSW, in order to improve the quality of the current and future activities.

• It will also be making the results of the prevention programmes more visible.

Evaluation Studies

• The evaluation will concentrate on the implementation, the process, and the perceived effectiveness of intervention activities. (so not: effect or impact)

• Evaluation will build upon information that has already been gathered by the organisations about the implemented prevention activities.

• The actual evaluation studies will be carried out by the individual organisations.

• With the expertise of Dr. T. Sandfort (HIV Centre, Columbia University), Schorer will facilitate the implementation by developing frameworks and guidelines and by providing some funding to partner organisations for implementing the evaluation studies.

• It will integrate the perspectives of persons involved in implementing the interventions as well as those of the participants in those interventions, and it will address barriers and facilitators to implementation.

• The selection of intervention activities to be evaluated will be made on the basis of a number of criteria.

– (Schorer-funded) interventions that have the promotion of safer sex as a major goal – should involve face-to-face interaction with members of the various target groups, and – should be carried out between January and May of 2009.

• May – July 2009
