24 Hours in Dreams was a 24-hour campaign to demonstrate how free open access to cross-disciplinary public spaces could act as a catalyst to drive the future of art and culture. An Appeal to art venues, artists, and art & culture leaders

To Whom It May Concern:
We have public libraries and museums, public parks, but why not public spaces dedicated to the creation of art? I write to you as part of my campaign ‘24 Hours in Dreams’ that will take place at the Battersea Arts Centre (BAC), June 28. I strongly believe that the UK's leading venues, such as the Royal Opera House, the National Theatre, Sadler's Wells, Barbican Centre, Southbank Centre, and Tate Modern to name a few, should offer a free and non-selective Open Spaces in which artists could come together as equals to explore different arts and learn from each other. I urge you to consider this idea for a moment.
Imagine independent spaces where all artists/individuals, regardless of practice or project, would be free to come and work and could use the space for experimentation, development, collaboration, and reflection on the work they are producing. If the leading venues and organisations in London could each establish their own Open Space where once a month, once a season, or at whatever chosen intervals, artists could be given full creative freedom within a studio without the pressure of expectation, this could be revolutionary for art. Imagine the growth of an artist who one week could attend an Open Space offered by a venue primarily focused on dance, theatre, or music and the next go to an Open Space offered by a visual arts venue, and so on, while many other artists were to do the same in whatever order their journey took them. Artists
would be constantly able to offer insight into each other’s art forms; the cross-fertilisation would be incredible. The possibilities really are endless.
It is important that the space be non-selective because this should not be a service solely offered to artists who have already “proven” themselves; by then it is almost too late! Artists can’t produce ground-breaking work without time and space in supportive environment for risk-taking. We should be aiming to encourage artists to feed each other’s work, and what better way than in spaces for cross-disciplinary arts. As you know, artists take years to develop and should be able to get on this wagon as early in their development as possible to spark their creativity. As Muhammad Ali said, "If they can make penicillin out of mouldy bread, then they can sure make something out of you" - this should be open to all, regardless of age or background; everyone can help shape the art of the future.
It is also important that the space not be led by any authority or have any particular structure as this can be stifling. If we consider the analogy in which the venue is the parent and the Open Space is their child, you may understand why I feel strongly about how the child should be allowed to make discoveries independently in order to grow.
I realise financing is always a concern, but if any already existing spaces used for workshops, etc. could be made available for a given time every month or every couple of months it could do so much for the art community. The venues would not have to fund anything else. The physical space itself is all that is needed! I have organised the 24-hour campaign at BAC on June 28 from 9pm to 9pm the next evening to encourage art organisations to consider this idea and make the dream a reality in the near future.

Watershed, a "cross-artform venue and platform" in Bristol, offers 'Open Studio Friday' at Pervasive Media Studio, where the public is invited to attend free talks and use the space afterwards to work independently. I think other venues should follow in its footsteps.
To create ‘great art’, artists, such as myself, really need the support of these institutions!
