MEETINGS BOOK Groups and Meetings listed in the Meetings Book are registered at their own written request, providing they have no other group affiliation, receive no outside support and intend to follow the suggested AA program for group operation. AA listing does not constitute or imply approval or endorsement of any Group's approach to, or practice of the traditional AA program. This Meetings Book is intended for meeting information only, not as a commercial mailing list.

DOES CENTRAL OFFICE HAVE CURRENT

INFORMATION ON YOUR GROUP?

Alcoholics Anonymous Victoria Central Office is a clearing house for information regarding AA meetings and other activities. It publishes this Southern Region Meetings Book.

A single call from a suffering alcoholic may prompt numerous outgoing calls to locate a member nearby to lend Twelfth Step help.

Central Office maintains a stock of AA Conference books and pamphlets and a collection of Pre-Conference and other literature.

Central Office co-ordinates AA speakers for external agencies such as community service clubs, churches, schools, etc. interested in AA, and AA rostered members to attend rehabs, hospitals and correctional facilities.

Central Office houses the archives that cover AA history in Victoria from 1947 to the present; this includes a wealth of information on individual Victorian Groups.

Central Office needs the details of your group's current officers so that your meeting has a communication link with Central Office. Please submit current information in writing to Central Office using a Group Registration / Update Form which can be downloaded from our website www.aavictoria.org or call 9429 1833 for a hardcopy. This information is strictly confidential and used for AA Victoria Central Service Office purposes only.

“Central Service Offices get going simply as the easiest, most efficient way of getting AA jobs done well, providing services for alcoholics with a minimum of organisation (see Traditions 8 and 9). Experience shows that such offices can perform many chores better (with more between-groups communication, less between-groups confusion) than many individual groups can in different, uncoordinated, separate ways.” Original Group Handbook, p27

HOW DO YOU GET A MEETING LISTED

IN THIS MEETING BOOK?

A Group Registration/Update Form listing office bearers such as Secretary, Treasurer and Delegate needs to be completed and lodged at Central Office. You can download the form from www.aavictoria.org.au and email, fax or post the completed form to Central Office. “The group conscience of AA seems to have agreed upon six points that suggest an AA group:

All members of a group are alcoholics and all alcoholics are eligible for membership.

As a group, they are fully self-supporting.

A group's primary purpose is to help alcoholics recover through the Twelve Steps.

As a group, they have no outside affiliation.

As a group, they have no opinion on outside issues.

4

As a group, their public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion, and they maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, TV and films.”

Original Group Handbook, p24

HOW DO YOU BECOME INVOLVED IN TWELFTH-STEP WORK

THROUGH CENTRAL OFFICE?

Central Office maintains a confidential list of AAs willing to do Twelfth Step work including AA service commitments in external institutions such as hospitals, detox units, prisons and a variety of other community organisations. Members are always needed for hospital and prison rosters. A list of the prisons where AA meets including contact details of the prison co-ordinator can be found in this Meetings Book. Central Office also needs AAs who are willing to volunteer their time at Central Office. There is always a need for willing volunteers to answer the phones along with a variety of other tasks. Practically any type of service is welcome. There are many groups meeting in hospitals and these are listed throughout the meetings book. Members are always urgently needed at these meetings to help carry the message.

Please call Central Office if you want to become involved in this aspect of Twelfth Step work on

DOES YOUR GROUP HAVE A CENTRAL SERVICE DELEGATE?

The Central Service Delegate is the link in a chain of unity connecting the individual member of an AA group to those who are elected to maintain the operation of AA Victoria Central Office and deal with matters pertaining to AA Victoria. Ultimately, this allows Central Office to better serve AA members and Group needs.

The Central Service Committee was created in 1954 by AA members and oversees the operation of Central Office and AA Victoria business according to the group conscience as represented by the Delegate Body.

The Central Service Delegate is selected by his or her group and represents that group at the quarterly delegates meetings. To this meeting the Central Service Delegate brings any suggestions, comments, or opinions the group may have. The Central Service Delegate then keeps the group informed of what is happening within AA as a whole by making periodic reports.

Make your Group's conscience count by electing a Central Service Delegate. Be a part of the voice of AA Victoria.

HOW DOES YOUR GROUP CONTRIBUTE AND CAN INDIVIDUALS CONTRIBUTE

FINANCIALLY TO AA SERVICES?

As AA members we sign no pledges and pay no dues or fees. We soon discover that sobriety in AA involves our assuming responsibility which includes contributions of money so that we can follow traditions in "paying our way." Success of the AA fellowship as a whole depends on adherence to the very fact that "we are self-supporting through our own contributions." The Victorian Central Office relies on regular contributions from the groups to maintain its services, ideally on a monthly basis so that the budget can be monitored. Individual contributions may take on various forms:

Contributions through the baskets at meetings.

Some AA members support AA Victoria by making a regular commitment to donate a certain sum of money to Central Office via the Members Contribution Club which is tax deductible.

Some members contribute to the Members Contribution Club on their anniversary in gratitude to AA for their sobriety.

One-time donations are always welcome. According to the collective group conscience of AA there is a limit on the amount of money any one member may contribute in any one year. Please check with the office to find out the current suggested amount.

MEMBERS CONTRIBUTION CLUB

The Members Contribution Club (MCC) is an opportunity for individual members to participate in a voluntary system to supplement the income of AA Victoria Central Office. Contributions over $2.00 are tax deductible and an official receipt is sent to members at the end of each financial year. If you would like to be a part of the MCC, please contact AA Victoria Central Service Office to discuss a payment option that will suit you. If you would like to be part of support for the office, please complete the form below and forward it to the office, enclosing your first contribution. Please make cheques/money orders payable to AA Victoria and forward to: AA Victoria PO Box 136 East Melbourne 8002
