Friday 8th February, 2013 Term 1, Week 2 2303 Summerland Way Telephone (02) 6636 4151 Rukenvale Facsimile: (02) 6636 4296 NSW 2474 Email: [email protected] Message From the Principal We have had a wonderful week at Rukenvale, with our students deeply engaged in their studies and learning experiences, as well as staff. Already this term staff have completed mandatory training in anaphylaxis, and the first module relating to the new Curriculum and its implementation. Our students are enjoying using technology in new ways to enhance their learning. “Today's kindergarteners will be retiring in the year 2067. We have no idea of what the world will look in five years, much less 60 years, yet we are charged with preparing our students for life in that world.” (21st Century Education) Swimming Carnival Yesterday’s Swimming Carnival was a great experience for us as our students competed in many events throughout the day, supported by a great number of parents and community. Junior class students also participated in a variety of fun events in the small pools. Four of our students were Runner-up Champions: Holly Walters -Senior Girl RU; Dylan Hahn– Senior Boys RU; Harry Crawter-11 Yrs Boys RU and Oliver Hausen– Junior Boys RU. Thank you to all the students and parents who were able to attend and support each other throughout the day. The Magic Number Our numbers for 2013 are again very close to the ‘magic number’. We are confident of attaining our required numbers and current staffing levels, but would really welcome new families to Rukenvale. We are hopeful that several houses in the area will be filled very soon, attracting some new enrolments to Rukenvale. We need to reach our magic number within the next 2 weeks. If you know of anyone who may like to give Rukenvale PS a try, please let us know or let them know about us. Head-Lice Yes….they’re back! We ask parents to please check their child(ren’s) hair for these nasty little critters. As suggested at a P&C meeting last year, we plan to have a ‘Nit-Off’ weekend on the 23rd-24th February, where all students, their bed linen and soft toys are all treated on the one weekend, in the hope that we can break the cycle of head lice. Our numbers for 2013 are again very close

A ‘welcome’ BBQ will be held at the school on Wednesday 20th February at 5.30pm. All parents are invited to attend and are welcome to stay for the P&C meeting afterwards at 6.15pm. A sausage sizzle will be provided by the school.
