Principal’s Summer Holidays Prayer

D E A R L O R D

Please bless this time of vacation. Help my family to get along, to

enjoy one another. Maybe toss a couple of those idyllic imagined

scenes into our path? May we be able to see the wonder You

instill within the chaos of our days – whether we vacation near or

far away from home.

On this every day, normal day that’s somehow still outside of our

regular routine, help me to embrace my family, this time of

vacation, and the ordinary yet extraordinary gifts You’ve given.

Open my eyes to see that vacation will end but the memories of it

will remain and give me the strength to make them sweet. Pour

some of that strength into my very being and bring me through to

the end of vacation with a thankful heart and unceasing praise.

GUIDANCE CORNER FOR JUNE

There are a number of summer learning opportunities available for intermediate students. A Summer Enrichment Camp for Grade 6,7 and 8 students helps to continue the development of necessary skills for success in both Literacy and Numeracy. https://www.tcdsb.org/ProgramsServices/ContinuingEducation/Pages/Default.aspx The Summer Reach Ahead program offers students going into Grade 9, the opportunity to earn a high school credit through a variety of learning experiences at the high school they will be attending in September. You would have received registration information about the Summer Transition course in the acceptance package your child received from their September high school. Graduating Grade 8 students can now begin their Community Involvement hours beginning July 1st. Guidelines on how to attain this graduation requirement can be found at: https://www.tcdsb.org/programsservices/schoolprogramsk12/guidancecooped/communityservice40hours/Pages/default.aspx LEGO LAND – Ms. James’ Class:

Yesterday our Grade 1 /2 class went to Legoland. My favourite part was the Ninjago maze. My favourite part about the maze was the lasers. I also liked the Kingdom Quest. I liked the laser guns because you see where you are aiming. I also liked the Ninjago ride. You could go really high. We saw a 4D movie. It was so much fun. Once it froze and gave me a headache. We saw a Toronto city too. There were buttons to control the lego things. It was so much fun. I loved it.

Recipe of the Month – Cooking with Kids Series

The Best (and Easiest) Homemade Ice Cream You'll Ever Make!

Rich and creamy homemade vanilla ice cream recipe that only requires five ingredients!

Course: Dessert - Servings: 6

Ingredients

o 1¾ cups heavy cream o 1¼ cup whole milk o ¾ cup sugar o ⅛ teaspoon fine sea salt o 1 tablespoon vanilla extract or 1 vanilla bean split in half lengthwise or o Optional: 2 cups of add-ins - soft brownies, cookies, and blondies work great

Instructions o Pour 1 cup of the cream into a saucepan and add the sugar, salt. Scrape the seeds of the vanilla bean

into the pot and then add the vanilla pod to the pot. Warm the mixture over medium heat, just until the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat and add the remaining cream, milk, and vanilla extract (if using extract). Stir to combine and chill in the refrigerator.

o When ready to churn, remove the vanilla pod, whisk mixture again and pour into ice cream maker. Churn according to the manufacturer's instructions. Transfer the finished ice cream to an airtight container and place in the freezer until ready to serve. Enjoy!

Please note Feel free to skip the simmer step and simply whisk everything together, then pour directly into the ice cream maker. The ice cream is absolutely delicious this way, as well as when simmered and chilled first. Recipe taken from: https://barefeetinthekitchen.com/homemade-ice-cream-recipe/

Development and Peace: Share the Journey Campaign

The grade 7/8 students in Mr. Pileggi’s class worked with other students from the Toronto Catholic District School Board and various other Catholic Boards to bring awareness of migrants and refugees fleeing to some of the poorest countries in the world. As a class we informed our school community of this issue and that the Canadian Government needs to give more assistance to those being displaced or fleeing their home because of conflict. On Wednesday May 15th 2019, Dahvien and Gift joined Mr. Pileggi, the organizers of Development and Peace, and other students and teachers from our province on a long trip to Ottawa to meet with our local MP’s, discuss the issues with them, campaign around the parliament building, and submit the signed postcards from our community. This culminated the Share the Journey Campaign and was an incredible experience for all those involved.
