Reflection by Father John

Be patient, brothers and sisters, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth,

being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. You too must be patient. (James 5:7-8)

Patience is that all elusive virtue, one of the toughest to nail down, just when we think we have become patient people, there it goes – right out the window. It is my belief that patience is one of the most difficult of the virtues to achieve. The reason being is that it is required with almost every aspect of our lives.

First, we must be patient with ourselves. In our spiritual lives we will ask God for many things, healing from this, delivery from that, an increase of this, an elimination of that and when it does not come in our time-frame, which is sometimes less than 10 seconds, we may grow inpatient and react poorly.

Second, we must be patient with others. Every challenge that comes our way from others, be it our spouses, our children, siblings, parents, relatives, friends, co-workers, teachers, coaches, trainers, basically everyone, are not really challenges but opportunities for us to be patient with others, even when they are annoying us. Think for a moment how patient Jesus is with us and how He looks past our weaknesses, not letting us off the hook, but rather the patience He has each time we ask for forgiveness and He grants it. If there is anything He wants, He wants us to do the same for others.

Finally, we must be patient in life, this includes the Lord’s coming now which we celebrate every Christmas, but we must patient for His second coming as well. Often time’s people do not even think of the Lord’s second coming, the reason for that is that we do not want to. However, we should be waiting patiently for the Lord, for when we do so we remain prepared. The Apostle James told us, so let us try to live it out, “You too must be patient.”

God bless you,

Father John

LUCKY “7” Club Drawing is next Sunday, December 22 at 12:45 p.m.in the Aquin Center

You still have an opportunity to purchase a ticket to win CASH before Christmas.

Top prize is $10,000! Tickets are $50 and odds of winning one of seven cash prizes are

one in 142—better than most lottery odds!

The Lucky “7” Sweepstakes is a major parish fundraiser. As our church and buildings age more and more high cost expenditures have become necessary to maintain the buildings. Consequently your help is needed to assure that all 1,000 tickets get sold this year. Ask your friends, neighbors or coworkers to purchase a chance to win cash before Christmas. Drop off your check with name, address and phone number to the parish office or purchase in the Gathering Space after weekend masses .
