Hiring Tips1. Educate yourself on legal procedures related to selecting and hiring personnel.

2. Negligent hiring can easily cost you thousands of dollars and potentially ruin your business

3. Make sure you develop a legally acceptable record keeping policy for all hires and

employees. Keep these records for a minimum of 4 years AFTER employment termination.

4. Have your employment-at-will agreement form reviewed by your attorney, to make sure it

does not contain any suggestion of written, oral or even implied contract. DO not

communicate anything (verbally or in writing) that could lead an applicant to believe

he/she was offered a contract.

5. Before you implement any application form, agreement form or employee handbook,

make sure you have them reviewed by your attorney. They are not experts in the hiring

process but they can help you save a lot of money by making sure you abide by the law.

6. If you use any screening test, the best way to stay legally protected is to be able to

demonstrate that it is entirely job-based and that it does NOT create an adverse impact.

Why is all this important????• Bad hire can cost you customers and all the revenue they

might have brought you

• Bad hire increases recruiting costs

• Bad hire can result in higher insurance due to poor driving

skills and other bad habits

• It costs nearly 2.5 times an employee’s annual salary to

replace him/her.

• Negatively affect employee morale

• Severely damage your company’s growth potential
