Three types of discussions

1 - Issues that have been concluded by the ILO – Unless challenged at the workshop, the text as presented in Doc.

ISCO/11/03 can be adopted as individual rulings. 2 - Issues for which there are comments, but no

conclusion by the ILO – Where there is no proposal that can be adopted as a ruling further

discussion remains!– Cases where this workshop meeting cannot agree on a conclusion will be

left for further discussion in the CIRCA discussion forum.

3 - Issues for which no reactions are recorded in the forum

– Same as type 2. When clarified and adopted as rulings, these will be integrated in a database

and linked to the ISCO-08 definitions as part of the definitions.

Programmers

Question (Spain)

Applications programmers are classified in major group (MG) 2 and only in MG 2.

We think that the profile of these occupations, according to the tasks described for code 2514 (basically writing and maintaining outlined code, revising and repairing it, conducting trials...) correspond to a vocational training based occupations. We think that the required skill level (SL) for fully competent performance is lower than 4, there is no requirement on "... complex problems solving,… and an extensive body of theoretical and factual knowledge“ (definition of SL4) for those tasks but the application of one or several programming languages and some knowledge of the ICT environment.
