    1.04 SUBMITTALS

    A. Comply with Section 01 33 00

    B. Drawings: Refer to Section 23 05 13.13.

    C. Manufacturers Data: Submit manufacturers technical data on all valves proposed under this Section.

    D. Samples: Submit samples as required by the Engineer.

    1.05 QUALITY ASSURANCE

    A. Manufacturers: Firms regularly engaged in the manufacture of valves whose products have been in satisfactory use in similar applications for not less than 10 years.

    B. Installer: Firms regularly engaged and qualified in the installation of valves with at least 5 years successful installation experience on projects of a similar nature.

    1.06 OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE DATA

    A. Comply with Sections 01 78 23 and 23 05 13.13.

    1.07 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

    A. All valves shall be stored within a well lit container on purpose-made compartmented racks or shelves, constructed in a similar manner to support the entire weight of materials without noticeable deformation.

    B. The valves shall be separated by means of their type and size and laid out in an orderly manner for ease of identification.

    C. Valves shall be supplied and stored with purpose made or manufactured plugs to prevent ingress of dirt.

    1.08 WARRANTY

    A. Comply with Section 01 78 36. PART 2: PRODUCTS 2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS

    2.02 GENERAL

    A. Valves, cocks, air vents and pipework specialties shall be provided where shown on the Drawings and at all positions necessary for the proper working, regulation, control and maintenance of the installation with the approval for the Engineer.

    B. All valves and cocks shall be suitable for the temperatures, working and test pressures applicable to each system.

    C. All valves, cocks, vents and specialties shall be fitted in such a manner that they are accessible for operation and maintenance.

    2.03 VALVES

    A. Isolating Valves < 50 mm:

    1. Bronze gate valve to MSS SP 80 threaded to ASME B 1.20.1 solid wedge disk, non-rising stem, screwed-in bonnet, handwheel operated. Rated 17.2 bar.

    2. As 1. above, but fitted with lockshield..

    3. Bronze bodied end-entry ball valve threaded to ASME B 1.20.1, Quarter-turn, lever operated. DZR brass ball chrome plated or bronze ball chrome plated virgin PTFE seats, blow-out proof stem. Rated 41.4 bar.

    4. As 3. above, but fitted with lockshield.

    B. Isolating Valves > 65 mm:

    1. Cast iron gate valve to MSS SP 70 flanged ASME B 16.1 Class 125 flat face. Wedge disk, non-rising stem, inside screw. Bronze seat rings and disk facings. Rated 13.8 bar.

    2. Cast iron butterfly valve to MSS SP 67 wafer pattern to fit ASME B 16.1 Class 125/150 flanges. EPDM liner, Aluminum Bronze Disc. 65 mm to 150 mm lever operated. 200 mm (8 in) and above gearbox operated. Rated 16 bar.

    C. Non Return Valves < 50 mm: Bronze non-return valve swing type to MSS SP 80 threaded to ASME B 1.20.1. Renewable nitrile rubber disc, free to rotate and hinge pin mounted. Screwed-in cap with integral seat. Rated 20.7 bar but limited to 100 o

    D. Non Return Valves > 65 mm:

    1. Cast iron non-return valve swing type to MSS SP 71 flanged to ASME B 16.1 Class 125 flat face. Bronze faced disk, free to rotate, hinge pin mounted. Bolted cap. Body seat ring bronze. Rated 13.8 bar.

    2. Cast iron wafer body non-return valve swing type to suit mounting to fit ASME B 16.1 Class 125/150 flanges. Bronze or bronze trim, disk free to rotate, hinge pin mounted. Body seat facing bronze. Rated 13.8 bar.

    F. Strainers >65 mm: Cast Iron Y type strainer. Ends flanged to ASME B 16.1 Class 125 flat face. Fitted with perforated stainless steel screens with 0.75 mm holes. Machined seats, body and cap ends. Bolted cap with captive washer. Rated 13.8 bar.

    G. Draining Taps < 50 mm:

    1. Bronze angle pattern screw-down drainage tap, lockshield type. Male inlet threaded to ASME B 1.20.1, outlet ribbed to provide integral hose connection. Washer EP rubber. 10 bar.

    2. Bronze bodied end-entry ball valve threaded to ASME B 1.20.1, quarter-turn, lever operated. DZR brass ball chrome plated 12 mm 50 mm (1/2 - 2) or bronze ball chrome plated 63 mm 76 mm (2.1/2 & 3). Virgin PTFE seats, blow-out proof stem.

    N. Hose Bibs: Hose bibs shall be bronze ASTM B 62 or red brass ASTM B 124, with coupling union elbow replaceable hexagonal disc, hose thread spout, vacuum breaker, chrome plated where exposed.

    O. Pressure Reducing Valves:

    1. Water pressure reducing valves shall deliver flow rates based on initial and final pressures as indicated. Valves shall be suitable for 17.25 bar operating pressure on the inlet side with outlet pressure range 0.35 to 6.82 bar.

    2. Valves shall have easily adjustable low-pressure setting and shall be designed to resist water shock pressures.

    3. Valves 50 mm and smaller shall have bronze body and trim with screwed ends.

    4. Valves 65 mm and larger shall have iron body ASTM A 126 bronze trim and flanged ends.

    5. Valves shall have stainless steel stem ASTM A 182, disc and diaphragm shall be synthetic rubber, and seats shall be bronze.

    6. Valves shall be self-contained, single seated direct operated, diaphragm, spring-loaded type with balanced operation suitable for continuous or dead-end service.

    P. Double Check Valve Assemblies: Bronze backed in line double check valves to AWWA C 510 with intervening test plug and screwed ends.

    Q. Hose Bib Vacuum Breaker: Brass body in-line vacuum breaker to ASSE 1011, brass finish or chromium plated to match hose bib tap.

    R. Water Heater Vacuum Breaker: Bronze body pressure type with heat resistant disk opening to atmosphere at less then 12 mm mercury vacuum to ASSE 1020.

    S. Automatic Relief Valves:

    1. Pressure Relief Valves: Bronze body, stainless steel spring and trim with pipe type manual actuation lever. The unit shall be preset and sealed at the factory.

    2. Pressure and Temperature Relief Valves: Bronze body, stainless steel spring and trim on ceramic coated temperature sensing element and pipe type manual actuation lever. Unit shall be rated for relieving the maximum heat input to the water heater and pre-set and factory sealed. Unit shall be labeled with manufacturers name, serial number, maximum working pressure and temperature, set pressure and temperature and relieving capacity in watts.

    T. Blending valves: All bronze hot water extended tempering valve with threaded connections and adjustable thermostat units shall be pre-set to 40 o

    U. Trap primer: Bronze body trap primer, flow through pattern with built in air gap and screwed ends.

    V. Pressure Rating: All valves shall be rated for a minimum of 690 kPa working pressure at 120 o

    3.01 GENERAL

    A. Valves with screwed ends shall have a union installed adjacent to the valve for ease of dismantling.

    B. Where possible, valves shall be installed with the stem in the vertically upright position. However, all valves shall be installed in a manner such that they are readily accessible for ease of operation.

    C. Sufficient clearance shall be allowed for the application of thermal insulation, valve boxes, etc. to ensure that full travel of the valve stem can be achieved.

    3.02 ISOLATING VALVES

    A. Separate isolating valves shall be provided on all pipework services to each item of plant or equipment and on each main and submain, except where flow measuring or regulating valves are required and these valves can be used for isolating purposes without affecting their measuring or regulating functions.

    3.03 DRAIN VALVES

    A. Drain valves shall be installed at all system low points on the dead side of isolating valves and on all items of plant to facilitate emptying down and removal.

    B. Line sized drain valves shall be installed at the end of each pipework run and at the base of each pipework riser to enable the system to be adequately flushed.

    3.04 AIR VENTING DEVICES

    A. Air venting devices shall be installed at all system high points.

    B. Automatic air eliminators shall be complete with copper relief pipework, taken to within 1.5 m of the floor level and extended to a position where any discharge will not damage building fabrics, decorations or the like.

    C. Air bottles shall be made from 50 mm size tube. Each shall be a minimum of 150 mm long, fitted with a cap and 8 mm size air cock. Where an air bottle is fixed out of reach, a 15 mm extension tube shall be run from the cap to within 1.5 m of the floor level and terminating with a needle valve and hose union.
