The roads were blocked beyond description especially the roadsto Rouen which led tothe Seine. The weather having changedfor thebetter some bombing raids took place; they caused heavy losses but I wassurprised that the losses were not st ll heavier considering the immensemass of material.

Yrillewas the crossing-point of the division. B y day-and especiallyby night-work the engineer battalion succeeded in taking most of thevehicles of the division to the opposite bank. The ferrying site wasnot attackedby the airforce probably because t v/as not discovered.

O n 26August the division with all units which had crossed theSeine was ordered to march to the vicinity of Creil (northof Paris fora short refreshening. O n 27 August the order previously given out forthe division to mo v e first cf all to Helms, and then to the vicinity ofVesone the same evening x r a s rescinded, anda comb t group was alsoordered to go to the Plateau of Lsngres.

on Wallerfangen in the Valley of the Saar) and since 14.00 hrsSt. Barbara was in the possession of the Americajis. This meant thatthe en emy controlled the plateauthere and with it the Valley of theSaar in this sector. Consequently, the irst arriving combat groupof the division was launched against St. Barbara in order to repulsethe enemy there. The attack succeeded, at 16.00 hrs St. Barbara wasrecaptured. Considering the plateau on which St. Barbara is situated, this was a real success, which enabled the division to enjoy a breathingspace. After their arrival, the other portions of the division vereemployed. As the First Battalion of the 125th Panzer GrenadierBegimenthad remained in the Orscholz front, only three battalionsof an average combatstrengthof 120 - 125, men could betaken intoconsideration.
