Information about these operating instructions Welcome to OASE Living Water. You made a good choice with the purchase of this productBioTec 12/18/36 Screen-matic. Prior to commissioning the unit, please read the instructions of use carefully and fully familiarise yourself with the unit. Ensure that all work on and with this unit is only carried out in accordance with these instructions. Adhere to the safety information for the correct and safe use of the unit. Keep these instructions in a safe place! Please also hand over the instructions when passing the unit on to a new owner.
Symbols used in these instructions The symbols used in this operating manual have the following meanings:
Risk of injury to persons due to dangerous electrical voltage This symbol indicates an imminent danger, which can lead to death or severe injuries if the appropriate meas-ures are not taken.
Risk of personal injury caused by a general source of danger This symbol indicates an imminent danger, which can lead to death or severe injuries if the appropriate meas-ures are not taken.
Important information for trouble-free operation.
Intended use BioTec 12/18/36 Screenmatic, in the following termed "unit", and all other parts from the delivery scope may be used exclusively as follows: • For operation with clean water. • For mechanical and biological cleaning of garden ponds • Operation under observance of the technical data.
The unit is suitable for use for swimming and bathing ponds (A) in accordance with the national installer regulations.
The following restrictions apply to the unit: • Never use the unit to convey fluids other than water. • Never run the unit without water. • Do not use for commercial or industrial purposes. • Do not use in conjunction with chemicals, foodstuff, easily flammable or explosive substances.
Safety information Hazards to persons and assets may emanate from this unit if it is used in an improper manner or not in accordance with its intended use, or if the safety instructions are ignored.
This unit can be used by children from the age of 8 and by persons with physical, sensory or mental impairments or lack of experience and knowledge, as long as they are supervised or instructed on how to use the unit safely and are able to understand the potential haz-ards. Do not allow children to play with the unit. Do not allow children to clean or maintain the unit without close supervision. Hazards encountered by the combination of water and electricity • The combination of water and electricity can lead to death or severe injury from electrocution, if the unit is incorrectly
connected or misused. • Prior to reaching into the water, always switch off the mains voltage to all units used in the water. Correct electrical installation • Electrical installations must meet the national regulations and may only be carried out by a qualified electrician. • A person is regarded as a qualified electrician, if, due to his/her vocational education, knowledge and experience, he
or she is capable of and authorised to judge and carry out the work commissioned to him/her. This also includes the recognition of possible hazards and the adherence to the pertinent regional and national standards, rules and regu-lations.

- GB - • For your own safety, please consult a qualified electrician. • The unit may only be connected when the electrical data of the unit and the power supply coincide. The unit data is
to be found on the unit type plate or on the packaging, or in this manual. • Ensure that the unit is fused for a rated fault current of max. 30 mA by means of a fault current protection device. • Extension cables and power distributors (e. g. outlet strips) must be suitable for outdoor use.
− Install the transformer at a minimum safety distance of 2 m from the water. • Ensure that the power connection cable cross section is not smaller than that of the rubber sheath with the identifi-
cation H05RN-F. Extension cables must meet DIN VDE 0620. • Protect the plug connections from moisture. • Only plug the unit into a correctly fitted socket. Safe operation • Never operate the unit if either the electrical cables or the housing are defective! • Do not carry or pull the unit by its electrical cable. • Route cords/hoses/lines in a way that they are protected against damage, and ensure that they do not present a
tripping obstacle. • Only open the unit housing or its attendant components, when this is explicitly required in the operating instructions. • Only execute work on the unit that is described in this manual. If problems cannot be overcome, please contact an
authorised customer service point or, when in doubt, the manufacturer. • Only use original spare parts and accessories for the unit. • Never carry out technical modifications to the unit. • The power connection cables cannot be replaced. When the cable is damaged, the unit or the component needs to
be disposed of. • Only operate the unit if no persons are in the water! • The unit, the connections and plugs are not water-proof and must not be routed or installed in water. • Only operate the unit with the supplied transformer. • Keep the socket and power plug dry. • Ensure that the filter will not overflow. Danger of emptying the pond.
Installation (A) Lay the outlet pipes for the water outlet into the pond and for the drain outlet into the sewage system or flower bed with a sufficient gravity. Ensure that the unit is placed at a flood protected place and on firm ground (A1). When installing an OASE UVC pre-clarifying unit (e.g. Bitron), place the unit at a minimum distance of 2 m from the pond edge (A1). Place the transformer at a minimum distance of 2 m from the pond edge at a flood protected place (A1). Ensure unrestricted access to the cover to be able to carry out work on the unit. Push (A2) or turn the hose onto the stepped hose nozzle and secure with a hose clip. Push the flat sealing ring on the stepped hose connection, insert the stepped hose con-nection into the inlet opening of the filter housing, and screw-tighten the water inlet socket from inside (A2). Close the second water inlet with the closed hose nozzle (except when fitting a OASE UVC pre-clarifying unit, e.g. Bitron). Lay the hose such that it will not deform when walked on, avoid kinks and connect it to the pump.
Fitting the DN 110 outlet (BioTec Screenmatic 36) 1. 0. How to proceed: • Fit the O ring onto the outlet. • Fit the outlet into the respective hole of the container wall from the outside.
Ensure that the raised marking is at the top and aligned in relation to the hole pattern. • Fasten the outlet from the inside with oval head screws.
− Tighten all screws diagonally using the cordless screwdriver to ensure that the sealing ring is uniformly applied. Further tighten the screws using a Phillips screwdriver.
Start-up (B) Switch on the pump, open the unit cover, set the water jet using regulator at the water distributor (B2) such that it hits the first third of the screen. Close the cover, connect the motor connection cable to the transformer, connect power plug (B1). The unit functions automatically, cleaning is every 30 minutes. Note: The Biotec filter is a biological filter system and requires several weeks after its first installation to reach its full biological effect.

Maintenance and cleaning ( C ) Adhere to the safety information given above! Always unplug the power cables of the pump and of the Screenmatic prior to starting work (B3)! Only clean the filter when required, do not use chemical cleaning agents to permit the filter biology to optimally develop, knowing that cleaning agents kill the bacteria in the foam filters. Clean and change the Screenmatic screen Open the unit cover, remove and empty out the collection container (C1). If required, rmove the Screenmatic insert (C2). For this purpose, tilt up the screen insert, loosen the sealing plug of the power cable from the container wall inward, pull the power cable inward through the container wall, press in the lateral engagement hooks on the Screen-matic insert and remove same. Press the Screenmatic unit of Biotec 36 to the rear (C2), then remove. Undo the lateral screws (C3) from the side section without motor, remove side section, release the clamping lever (C4), and remove the Screenmatic screen to the front. Thoroughly clean the Screenmatic screen, the strippers, and the screen from both sides under running water. Replace the screen, if necessary. Reassemble the Screenmatic insert in the reverse order, lead the power cable through the opening in the container wall and close the wall using the sealing plug. Clean and replace the foam filters, clean the substrate tubes or change the substrate Open the unit cover and tilt the screen insert upward (C5). To mechanically clean the foam filters, place the cleaning tool on a foam holder and compress the foam inserts several times; if necessary, remove the foam filters (C6) and rinse with clean water. Remove the separating plate between the filter and substrate chamber. Open the cleaning outlet using the slide valve until the water has completely drained, close and switch the pump on until the filter is completely filled with pond water. Open the cleaning outlet again and drain the water. Repeat rinsing 2 – 3 times. Remove the substrate pipes, clean under running water, or replace the substrate. Re-insert the substrate tubes in the guides, refit the separating plate, tilt the screen insert down again and close the filter cover, then switch the pump on again.
Storage/Over-wintering Put the unit out of operation at water temperatures below 8 °C or, at the latest, when freezing temperatures are to be expected. Drain and thoroughly clean the unit, check for damage. Remove, clean, dry and store all foam inserts and substrate tubes in a frost-free environment. Do not immerse the power plug in the water! Ensure that the storage place is inaccessible to children. Cover the filter container such that the ingress of rain water is excluded. Drain all hoses, pipes and connections as far as possible.
Wearing parts Foam filters, substrate filters and the Screenmatic screen are wearing parts and are, therefore, not covered by our warranty. Neither the transformer nor the Screenmatic drive can be repaired in the event of damage to the cables or the housing and have to be replaced.
Disposal
Do not dispose of this unit with domestic waste! For disposal purposes, please use the return system provided. Disable the unit beforehand by cutting off the cables.
