This is the first recorded collaboration between songwriting and performing legend Jimmy Webb and his sons who have established themselves in their own right as The Webb Brothers, Jimmy's father Bob joins the party too.The outfit combines the rock sensibility and youthful production of the younger Webbs with the timeless Americana grandeur of their father’s symphonic songs. Jimmy and The Webb Brothers are undertaking a UK tour November 1st. Full national and regional press and radio promotion accompanies this release.

The moment for this momentous collaboration arrived earlier this year when interest in both a U.K. tour and album coincided with the availability of all family members to work together. The result, Cottonwood Farm, juxtaposes several new songs from the Brothers with a handful of treasures from Jimmy's archives -- two of them previously unreleased, including the epic, 12-minute title track. Jimmy wrote "Cottonwood Farm" in the early 1970s for his grandfather, and it proved an ideal focal point for the album, its various movements presenting character-roles for the family 's many singers (including Jimmy's father Bob and his youngest daughter Camila). "Even though I didn’t know it at the time," Jimmy says, "this album is the reason that I wrote this piece of music." Liza Minnelli, Kay Thompson's god-daughter, recently recreated the "Kay Thompson and the (Andy) Williams Brothers" nightclub act for her Liza's At The Palace concert on Broadway, which won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event. An original cast CD of the show, including all the Kay Thompson numbers, was issued in February 2009 produced by Phil Ramone. In September 2009, Liza will perform the show at the M-G-M Grand in Las Vegas where it will be filmed for a television special and DVD release. Kay was an unusual talent who also served as vocal coach to the stars including Judy Garland and Lena Horne. She discovered the young Andy Williams and his brothers and had them accompany her on her cabaret performances. Kay Thompson is also the author of Eloise, the classic children's book about the little girl who lives at the Plaza Hotel in New York.

The first ever live album from Jan Garbarek and certain to be one of the year’s most successful ‘jazz’ releases, Dresden captures a fiery and powerful performance, a fine document of the Norwegian saxophonist’s exceptional improvising capacities. And it’s a magnificent release with which to welcome ECM’s 40th anniversary season. Recorded at the city’s Alte Schlachthof in October 2007, it captures his group when it was reformulating its approach - earlier that year bassist Yuri Danie l joined the band when Eberhard Weber was side lined by illness. The new group tackles its repertoire head-on, with the interaction between Garbarek and drummer Manu Katché at the music’s centre. Daniel, a Brazilian bassist living in Portugal, he lps to anchor the pulses and rhythm patterns and Rainer Brüninghaus maintains his long-established role as colourist-in-action. Both bassist and keyboardist help to shape a climate in which Garbarek’s hymnic, declamatory and intensely melodic solos can find full expression, drawing energy also from Katché’s hard-driving drums. As The Guardian wrote of their 2007 London Jazz Festival concert, “The contrast between an intense jamming sound and the songlike simplicity of the tunes is always Garbarek’s magic mix, but this version of the band has an exhilarating intensity.”

Dresden is eagerly awaited. It’s been five years since In Praise of Dreams, 11 since Rites, 16 since Twelve Moons, the last disc identified unequiv-ocally as a Jan Garbarek Group album. Stone in the Water is the first of Stefano Bollani’s ECM recordings to feature the Italian pianist’s “Danish Trio”, a group that already has six years of playing experience behind it, and produces a sound that is supple, subtle, flowing.

This exceptionally beautiful piano trio album was recorded in New York last October, with Manfred Eicher producing. Material spans original pieces by Bollani and Bodilsen, tunes by Caetano Veloso and Antonio Carlos Jobim and Poulenc’s “Improvisation 13 en la mineur” – it’s a wide range of material, unified by the gracefulness of Bollani’s touch and the feeling of freedom in the trio playing.

Bollani is meanwhile one of the shooting stars of jazz. A major celebrity in Italy and an artist who packs halls round the world, he has won numerous international awards including the European Jazz Prize 2007. The trio is much on the road this autumn with an Italian tour, an appearance at ECM’s ongoing series at the Barcelona Auditorium and two concerts at the London Jazz Festival as part of Bollani’s ‘residency’ at King’s Place. Dates of a UK tour next April will shortly be confirmed.

The pianist first met bassist Jesper Bodilsen and drummer Morten Lund in 2002 when Enrico Rava won the JazzPar prize. Invited to put together an ensemble for the award shows, Rava chose Bollani as one of his fellow soloists, while the prize committee proposed Bodilsen/Lund for the rhythm section. As Bollani recalls, “We had such a great time that we wanted to continue, as a trio.” Bollani’s ECM recordings with Rava since 2003 are Easy Living, Tati, The Third Man and just recently New York Days while his own album Piano Solo was released in 2006. Non-ECM albums include two with Bodilsen and Lund, Mi r itorni in mente and Gleda.
