DESCRIPTIONS OF COMPETITION VENUES

The 21ST FIPS-Mouche European Fly Fishing Championship will be held along the Sarca river, which comes from the glaciers of the Adamello and flows into Garda Lake, from where it exits with the name of Mincio. 77km separate the spring from the lake. The competition will take place on 4 different sections along the higher part of the Sarca river: in Val Genova, in the area around Pinzolo, in the neighboring areas of Tione di Trento and in Terme di Comano/Ponte Arche. The fifth section will be in the Nembia Lake. Every competitor will have at his/her disposal around 200 meters of river for each of the five contests. 1. VAL GENOVA competition sector (green = official practice sector; red competition sector) Natural trait immersed in the conifer woods of the Parco Naturale Adamello Brenta. The bottom of the river is made of gravel and sand, with a few big granite rocks. Possibility of veiled waters, especially in case of storms or hot weather. The shores are easily accessible by foot. During normal water levels it is difficult to cross the river.

Trout species: mostly Fario, Marbled Trout, hybrid Fario Marble, occasional Brook trout (American).

2. CADERZONE – PINZOLO competition sector This trait is characterized by shallow waters with a few hollows behind rocks and small currents. In a few spots you will be able to find flat areas around 30-50m long and deeper holes. The shores are easily accessible by foot, even though a few traits present small willow woods. Crossing the river is not particularly difficult.

Area: from the bridge in Caderzone up to the pedestrian boardwalk in Pinzolo. Trout species: Mostly Fario, Marble, hybrid Fario Marble.

3. TIONE competition sector (green = official practice sector; red = competition sector)

Strong, deep streams against emerging rocks that alternate with lighter currents and holes behind the rocks. The shores are generally of easy access, although at times some areas present rich vegetation. During normal water levels it is not possible to cross the river, except for a few spots.

Area: from the entrance to Torrente Arnò up to the bicycle bridge path in Verdesina. Trout species: Fario, Marble, hybrid Fario Marble.

4. TERME DI COMANO competition sector Partially natural trait in the village of Ponte Arche, between the shores’ walls, the river banks still remain far from the stream. Flat areas with deep, slow currents alternate with spots with small shallow currents. Shores are easy to access, although not always comfortable, with a few traits presenting rich vegetation along the upper part of the field. During normal water levels it is possible to cross the river, except for a few deeper spots.

Area: from Ponte Vecchio Terme up to Vivaio Trout Species: Mostly Fario, Marble, hybrid Fario Marble. Presence of a few Chub trout.

5. NEMBIA LAKE competition sector

Lake with natural shores covered in grass, very easy to walk on. Very clear waters, up to 3,5 m deep.

Trout species: Fario, Rainbow Trout, Arctic Char.

Terme di Comano Trentino – the host Region

Trentino is a land of waters: over 2000 km of rivers and streams, almost 300 lakes, renowned thermal centres where water becomes health for body and mind. At the Terme di Comano, water means first of all health for the skin. It also means fishing thanks to the Sarca river and its many tributaries. Finally, it also means relax, sport and fun thanks to the lakes that surround them.

The Terme di Comano, excellent dermatologic center in Europe, cure skin of adults and children naturally thanks to their thermal waters.

Trentino is a land of mountains and, more precisely, home of the Dolomites, UNESCO World Heritage for their sublime beauty and unique sceneries. The Dolomites of the Brenta become the setting of the FIPS-Mouche European Fly Fishing Championship in 2015. The Dolomites are well-known for their charm, for the color of the calcareous rocks and for the famous mountain tops: Cima Tosa, Cima di Brenta, Crozzon di Brenta, Campanil Basso, Cima d’Ambiez, Monte Peller: internationally acclaimed locations that all alpine experts know. In West Trentino you will find the widest protected area of the region: the Parco Naturale Adamello Brenta. A 620,51 sq km area that includes 48 lakes and the Adamello glacier, one of the most extensive in Europe. The Parco is well-known internationally for the reintroduction of the brown bear.

Trentino is a region of Northern Italy rich of history, traditions and cultures. This Alpine area offers numerous castles, churches, museums but also trenches and fortification walls from the First World War.

Specifically, near Terme di Comano, there is the medieval castle of Stenico, perfectly preserved and open to the public. It is a separate site of the bigger and majestic Castle of Buonconsiglio in Trento. You can also visit the pile-dwelling site and the archeological area in Fiave, which are today UNESCO World Heritage, and the medieval villages of Rango and San Lorenzo in Banale, which have been included to the “I Borghi Piu Belli D’Italia” (The most beautiful villages of Italy) Club. The region is strategically located for reaching cities like Verona, Venezia, Milano, Padova, Mantova in a very short time.
