2018 Prayer Focus – 21 Days of PrayerJanuary 7-27, 2018

Every Day Prayer Focus

• Humble ourselves. Asking for forgiveness for our sins and the sins of our land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

• Seek God. Declaring our dependence on God in every area of our lives. (1 Chronicles 16:11)

• His Kingdom Come. Praying for the completion of the Great Commission and for revival in our generation. (Matthew 6:10)

• Hear from Heaven. Invite the Presence of God in our church and our lives. Pray for souls to be saved, signs, wonders, miracles, and transformed lives. (Exodus 33:15)

• Believe God for answered prayer to our specific needs – Connect Cards and prayer requests. (Philippians 4:6)

• Pray for people to take next steps in their journey of faith. (Ephesians 1:17-18)

DAILY PRAYER FOCUS

Each week during these 21 days, we encourage you to take the time you would normally spend on the fasting items, and spend time in prayer, reading Scripture, or connecting with people. More information on fasting is available in this booklet.

Week 1 Fast: Movies & TelevisionDay 1 – Sunday morning services - pray for God to move mightily in people’s lives

Day 2 – Our National Leaders – President, Congress, Supreme Court

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.(1 Timothy 2:1-2)

Day 3 – Our Local Leaders – Texas Governor and Legislature, Mayors and City Council

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.(1 Timothy 2:1-2)

Day 4 – Our City – People of Longview and surrounding areas

7 And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it; for in its peace you will have peace. (Jeremiah 29:7)

Day 5 – Our Local Missions – Rahab’s Retreat, Treasure Church, East Texas Christian School - provision, wisdom, and guidance for these ministries

Day 6 – (Corporate Prayer at NCC – 6 am.) Our Pastors, church staff, life group leaders, serve team members, overseers, financial council, elders

12 And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you. (1 Thessalonians 5:12)

Day 7 – Our International Missions – the Gospel in Israel, unreached people groups, leadership development

14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:14)

Week 2 Fast: Social MediaDay 8 – Sunday morning services - pray for God to move mightily in people’s lives

Day 9 – The Lost – services, family members15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” (Romans 8:15)

Day 10 – Life Groups – leaders, members, real life change24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:24-25)

Day 11 – Next Steps and Serve Team – leadership development, covering over every leader, fresh vision

6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6)

Day 12 – Children, Covenant Students, Young Adults3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. 5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate. (Psalm 127:3-5)

Day 13 – (Corporate Prayer at NCC – 6 am) Families and marriages

3 Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; 4 By knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. (Proverbs 24:3-4)

Day 14 – Thrive Singles Ministry - wisdom for the leadership and that God would draw singles in East Texas

Week 3 Fast: FoodDay 15 – Sunday morning services - pray for God to move mightily in people’s lives

Day 16 – My Church – Vision for 2018, north campus launch, building projects, finances, leaders

18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18)

Day 17 – My Vision for 2018 – fresh vision, dreams fulfilled, making a difference

30 There is no wisdom or understanding or counsel against the Lord. (Proverbs 21:30)

Day 18 – My Place of Influence – home, workplace, school13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. (Matthew 5:13-14)

Day 19 – My Freedom – personal freedom and deliverance, breakthrough in every area

17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn.This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,” says the Lord. (Isaiah 54:17)

Day 20 – (Corporate Prayer at NCC – 6 am) My Needs – finances, health, family members to be saved and other personal needs

7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7)

Day 21 – 2018 Dedication - consecrate yourself and all that you have to the Lord this year. Thank God for hearing your prayers during these 21 days and trust Him for great things in 2018

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. (Romans 12:1)

A LIFESTYLE OF PRAYER

How do we make prayer a part of our everyday life? We can learn from three things that Jesus did…

35 Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and

there He prayed. (Mark 1:35)

• A CERTAIN TIME

Jesus got up early early in the morning to spend time with His heavenly Father. In order for prayer to work, we should do the same. Make a daily appointment with God and keep it.

• A CERTAIN PLACE

Jesus had a prayer place. Your prayer place needs to be an undistracted environment where you can pray out loud and perhaps have some worship music playing in the background.

• A CERTAIN PLAN

Go into your prayer time with a plan. If it changes that’s fine. When Jesus taught His disciples how to pray, He gave His disciples a prayer outline. We call it the Lord’s Prayer. This outline is available in this booklet.

MODEL PRAYER Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place,

when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray…” (Luke 11:1)

9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the

evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. (Matthew 6:9-13)

“Our Father in heaven…”1. Paternal

15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba,

Father.” (Romans 8:15)

Connect with God relationally. God loves for us to call Him our Father. Establish your intimate relationship with Him and

thank Him for the relationship you have with Him.

“…Hallowed be Your name…”2. Praise

4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. (Psalm 100:4)

This is the kingdom protocol. Spend time praising God until you feel you have entered His presence and have adequately expressed your praise to Him.

“…Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven…”

3. Purpose

33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (Matthew 6:33)

God’s kingdom is His authority, power, and influence. Pray His will over the following areas:

1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? 2

My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. (Psalm 121:1-2)

Put your trust in God as your source. Ask Him for what you want and need and then trust Him for the answer.

“…And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors…”

5. Pardon

9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

Get your heart right with God and with people. Ask God to check your heart and motives. Receive His forgiveness for any area that He brings to mind.

Forgive anyone who has offended you in any way. You can even forgive people in advance.

“…And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one…”

6. Protection

12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of

this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

(Ephesians 6:12-13)

Engage in spiritual warfare. Take your stand against the enemy and put on the armor of God in Ephesians 6.

“…For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

7. Power

17 ‘Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing

too hard for You. (Jeremiah 32:17)

End your prayer time by reminding yourself of God’s ability. Return to praise and make your faith declarations.

FASTING

The goal of fasting is to draw near to God. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose; it hits the reset button of our soul and renews us from the inside out. It also enables us to celebrate the goodness and mercy of God and prepares our hearts for all the good things God desires to bring into our lives. Remember, your personal fast should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and, most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.

TIMING OF A FAST

This year at NCC we are encouraging different kinds of fasting during a 21 day period in the month of January. This is part of 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, a season of focused prayer as a church family. You may also choose to fast at other times during the year for your own spiritual development. It’s very typical to fast a single meal, a whole day, or three days or more. The timing of your fast is not as important as the strength of your focus on God as you fast.

TYPES OF FASTS:

COMPLETE FASTIn this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water, light juices, coffee, or tea.

SELECTIVE FASTThis type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the “Daniel Fast”, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food. (Daniel 1:12)

PARTIAL FASTThis fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunup to sundown.

SOUL FASTThis fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.
