COACHING EXPERIENCE:1999-2003 Asst. Head Coach, Running Backs and Special Teams Coordinator, Bowie State2004-07 Assistant Coach, Texas Southern2008- Asst. Head Coach/RB, Prairie View A&M2009- Head Coach, Bowie State

Damon Wilson begins his 9th year at the helm of the Bowie State University football program. Wilson, who was an all-conference tight end for the Bulldogs (1998), did his first tour of duty as an assistant coach from 1999-2003 under Henry Frazier. As the Assistant Head Coach (Running Backs and Special Teams Coordinator) during those years, BSU’s special teams and running game consistently ranked at the top of the conference. During Wilson’s first run at Bowie State, the Bulldogs combined an overall record of 26-24 and they were able to bring home a CIAA Eastern Division Championship in 2002. As Wilson began to flourish in his coaching career, he would trade the comforts of home and the CIAA for the life in the south, deep in the heart of Texas. He spent three seasons on the sidelines at Texas Southern University and then fate would reunite Wilson and Frazier again at Prairie View A&M University. The Panthers of Prairie View finished the 2008 season with a 9-1 record and ranked 23rd nationally in Division I-AA football polls. As the running backs coach, Wilson helped lead the Panthers’ offense to their most successful season ever. Under Wilson’s guidance, Donald Babers led the SWAC in rushing and broke the university’s all-time record. Wilson would leave his name in the history books, having been the first coach in Prairie View history to coach a 1,000 yard running back. Wilson began his head coaching era at Bowie State in 2009. In 2009 Wilson’s Bulldogs broke the school record for Most Offensive Yards in a game, had eight players to receive All Conference honors, and four players selected to All-Rookie Team. At one point in 2009 Bowie State was ranked as high as 8th in the region, and closed the season with the #1 ranked defense in the country. While Wilson garnered Coach of the Week awards on two separate occasions during 2009, Isaac Redman was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL. The 2009 Eastern Division Champs also boasted an impressive 25 players with grade point averages above a 3.0. The 2010 season would prove to be another successful campaign for Wilson and the Bulldogs. Wilson continues to put his name in the history books as his high-powered offense broke and reset many records. The Bulldogs broke the school record for Most First Downs in a Game, Most Pass Completions in a Game and Season, Most Yards Passing, Most Touchdowns Thrown, Most Kickoff Returns in a Season and Career,

Most Pass Breakups and Most Blocked Kicks. They posted a 6-1 CIAA record; the best Bowie State conference record since 1989, and had two players receive conference awards. Wilson has had five players represent Bowie State University in Russell Athletics HBCU All-Star game and two players selected to participate in Division I All Star Game, two players in the NFL and one in the IFL (Indoor Football League), and graduated 30 players in three years. Wilson was also one of the twenty coaches selected from across the country to participate in the NCAA Expert Coaches Academy. The one–time Coach of the Week used his powers of persuasion and strong business acumen to assist the University and supporters in the installation of a million dollar synthetic turf field at the Bulldogs Stadium. In 2011 the Bulldogs found it hard to replace the senior class from the 2010 season. Although the Bulldogs started off 3-0 they then experienced some loses in close games that they were unable to bounce back from. While it was a challenging season on the gridiron, it did not prevent the Bulldogs from experiencing success in the classroom and in the community. There were 15 seniors to graduate from the 2011 team and seven players that received All Conference recognition. In the summer of 2013, Coach Wilson completed a summer internship with St. Louis Rams as part of the Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship. The annual program is administered by the NFL Management Council and NFL Player Engagement and its objective is to use NFL club’s training camps, offseason workout program and minicamps to give talented minority coaches opportunities to observe, participate, and gain experience with coaching staffs, front office, and other various areas of the organization. Coach Wilson entered the 2015 season with six Bowie State University Bulldogs named among those selected 2014 Preseason D2 (CIAA) All-America Football Team. Wilson’s Bulldogs finished the 2014 season second in the division and received a number of post season accolades. Wilson had 11 players recognized by the conference and 3 players were named to All American Teams. In 2014 another Bulldog signed a NFL contract, making it four Bulldogs in the last five years to pursue their NFL dream. The 2015 season proved to be the best on record since 1975 as the Bulldogs earned the title of Northern Division Champions and recorded an impressive 9-3 overall record, they ran the table in the CIAA (7-0 CIAA and 5-0 North), competed in the conference championship game and advanced to the NCAA Division II Super Region One Quarterfinals for the first time in school history. Wilson was named 2015 CIAA Coach of the Year, 2015 Mid-Major Coach of the Year, 2015 AFCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, and 2015 Bowie State University Coach of the Year. Wilson had 16 players recognized by the conference and two players were named to All American Teams. Bowie State football experienced another great season in 2016, finishing the season with an overall record of 7-4, 6-1 mark in the CIAA North, captured the CIAA Northern Division crown for the second consecutive year and made a return trip to the conference championship game. Damon is married to Allison (Dunn) and they have one son Dylan. Coach Wilson is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, working with children, fishing, and attending sporting events.

Last Action for Fayetteville State ...Missed Opportunities Cost FSU Broncos in 40-47 loss to VA Union

RICHMOND, Va. - Fayetteville State (1-3 overall, 0-1 CIAA) may have fallen behind 33-10 at halftime to Virginia Union (2-2 overall, 1-0 CIAA), in Richmond, VA, but not all hope was gone. Unfortunately, a 47-40 loss at Hovey Field left the Broncos deflated.

Head Coach Richard Hayes admitted that he needed to do a better job motivating the Broncos at the start of the second half. Down by 23 points, Coach did just that.

Starting freshman quarterback Richard Latimer (Charlotte, NC) connected with Curtis Burston (Brooklyn, NY) twice in the third quarter for 14 unanswered points and a 24-33 game. On the opening drive of the second half, Latimer found Burston on a post route which led to a 58-yard touchdown with 13:03 left on the clock. On the Broncos following possession, he hit Burston on a slant for 76 yards with 9:24 left. David Lamb booted both extra points.

After a Virginia Union score and the closeout of the third quarter, Fayetteville State drove its first possession of the fourth period 78 yards on eight (8) plays into the end zone with a two-yard push-of-the-pile by Darnell Walker (Charlotte, NC). With 11:21 left in the game, Walker was successful on the two-point conversion in like fashion for a 32-40 game.

After forcing the Panthers into a turnover on downs. FSU took possession with 8:27 left in the game and the ball on its 30. Stevie Green (Washington, NC) and Donshel Jetton (Mooresville, NC) paired up to move the chains. Jetton hit a 16-yard stretch to set the Broncos up for a first-and-goal on the eight-yard line. Two plays later, Jetton squirted through the middle for a tied ball game at 40-40 with 4:49 left. Latimer’s two-point pass to Christopher Brooks (Walkertown, NC) was good.

Needing to make a defensive stop on the ensuing drive, FSU allowed Virginia Union to convert two third-down possessions. The Panthers started the drive on its 25-yard line. Facing a 3rd-and-5 on the VUU-30, a defensive pass interference reset the downs and placed the ball on the VUU-45. Digressing to a 3rd-and-11 situation, VUU advanced the chains to the FSU-44 with its air attack. Continuing through the air, Virginia Union converted a 1st-and-10 possession into a 16-yard touchdown with 32 seconds left in the game and a 47-40 lead.

An unsportsmanlike VUU penalty following the score would help Fayetteville State begin its final drive on its 35-yard line with 27 seconds left. Latimer threw to Stevie Green [15 yards] to reach centerfield and twice to Tristan Walker (Raleigh, NC) [25 yards] to reach the Panthers’ 25.

FSU had three opportunities to tie the game. The first fell incomplete before VUU called a timeout with eight (8) seconds left. The second pass went high and deep into the end zone and left one-second and the last opportunity. The game ended on an interception.

Latimer finished the game with 211 yards on 13-28-2 passing. His two throwing TDs were to Burston, who had two catches for 134 yards. Green led the game with 129 rushing yards on 28 carries and one touchdown. Jetton had 117 yards and a score with 12 touches.

Virginia Union had 511 yards of total offense. The Panthers threw for 383 and rushed for 128 yards. VUU converted 10 of 17 third downs.

As a team, Bowie State’s defense notched a season-high five sacks against Shaw.

The Bulldogs rolled up a school record 748 yards of total offense with 440 coming in the first half of play. However, Bowie State accounted for 11 penalties in the contest for 110 yards, second highest penalty yard total of the season.

Bowie State scored on the opening drive off an 18-yard pass from Hall to Pollock to give the Bulldogs the early 7-0 lead over Shaw. A three and out for the Bears resulted in BSU’s Chesson scoring on a 23-yard rush, following the extra point from sophomore Gene Carson (Accokeek, Md.) to extend their lead 14-0 at the 9:30 mark. An out-of-sync Bears team went three and out again the next possession down only to allow the Bulldogs to add to their score after a 46-yard pass from Hall to redshirt sophomore Brandon Abrams (Baltimore, Md.) for BSU’s third-straight touchdown of the game in the first quarter.

Despite the early deficit, the Bears were still in the contest thanks to penalties from the Bulldogs that led to first downs for Shaw but an attempted field goal from Beni Kinsemi (Charlotte, NC) was partially blocked by BSU redshirt junior Jaylen Harris (Clinton, Md.) as the Bears trailed 21-0 with 2:42 remaining in the first stanza.

Bowie State would add 14 more to the scoreboard ignited by an 80-yard touchdown reception by Sesay, followed by a 20-yard touchdown reception redshirt junior Brandon Britton (Columbia, Md.) that pushed the Bulldogs lead to 35-0 heading into the second quarter.

After scoring another touchdown and field goal by the Bulldogs to lead 45-0 over Shaw, the Bears finally got on the scoreboard when Vidal Woodruff (Tampa, Fla.) connected with Michael Sherman (Powder Springs, Ga.) for a 20-yard pass, catch and score to close out the first half.

The second half started pretty much like the first half with Bowie State scoring 17 points in the third and 14 in the fourth quarter. Carson drilled a 28-yard field goal for the first Bulldogs’ points in the third at the 11:36 mark. Marquise Watts recorded his first touchdown of the season, scoring on a 4-yard reception from Hall with 4:40 left in the third quarter. Chesson punched it in for the second time in the game, this time from 38 yards out a little over a minute later.

Bowie State’s Adams recorded his first touchdown of the season, rushing for a 1-yard score at the 12:21 mark of the fourth quarter to push the Bulldogs cushion to 69-7. Redshirt junior Adam Gillis (Lanham, Md.) scored the final rushing touchdown of the contest, pounding in from 3-yards out to with 5:45 remaining to account for the final margin.

Shaw finished with 208 yards of total offense that included 74 rushing and 134 passing. Woodruff completed 13-of-29 passing for 137 yards, but was intercepted three times and was responsible for one touchdown.

Sherman had a team-best 107 yards rushing on 19 carries and a touchdown while freshman Daniel Bender (Jacksonville, FL) had six receptions for 79 yards.

Hakiem Swann (Portsmouth, Va.) led the Bears defense with a game-high 10 total tackles (7 solo). Devon Hunt (Rockingham, N.C.) added eight tackles, one sack and a tackle for loss while Kevin Sherman (Powder Springs, Ga.) contributed seven tackles and a tackle for loss.
