  2. 2. 1 Wisdom has built her house, she has set up her seven columns; 2 She has dressed her meat, mixed her wine, yes, she has spread her table. 3 She has sent out her maidens; she calls from the heights out over the city: 4 Let whoever is simple turn in here; to him who lacks understanding, I say, 5 Come, eat of my food, and drink of the wine I have mixed! 6 Forsake foolishness that you may live; advance in the way of understanding.
  3. 3. Notice Wisdom, is personified, as a woman. Notice also the reference to the seven columns, the number seven is a symbol of perfection. she has mixed her wine, At this point in history various spices were mixed with the wine to enhance its flavor. Meat and wine are considered to be festive foods that would be served at a banquet. Wisdoms invitation to feasting anticipates the spiritual food of Christ (John 6:5258) and the future marriage supper of the Lamb (Rev. 19:9). Wisdom invites the simple to her feast so that they may become wise. The banquet is an anticipation of the heavenly banquet.
  4. 4. Christ not only gives the wine of wisdom and the bread of life but also wisdom which is beyond knowledge, a wisdom that gives understanding.
