MAN’S BEST FRIENDImagine strolling through a meadow while your dog romps in the sunshine! A rabbit bolts and your dog starts after it. You give a one word command and he wheels around, bounding cheerfully back to your side. You heel him calmly at your left side and when you stop, he automatically sits. You tell him to lie down and stay while you walk off to investigate something. You give him a release command and he is back to frolicking during your outing together…you have full confidence that your dog is under your complete control.

No leash. No shock collar. No food bribes. No whistles. No panic.

Does that sound like fiction to you? It could be your story! Our obedience program is truly amazing! We will patiently and strategically, bring you and your dog from Kindergarten to Graduation in 9 weeks.

At Scotch Pines, we believe that true obedience must extend beyond the 6 foot leash. Gates get left open, leashes slip, and even in your own backyard, REAL LIFE is off-leash. Our goal is to instill off-leash reliability, regardless of the distractions. To test our training, we bring a rabbit, goat, raw hamburger, and cat food to class. Your dog’s greatest distraction is other dogs, so a group class, with up to 30 dogs and handlers, provides an ideal setting for him to learn to listen to YOU no matter what the circumstances. We train for serious obedience, but you and your dog will have fun. It requires hard work and perseverance but the reward is incredible! 9 weeks is a short time compared to the life of your dog! If you love your dog make the commitment to help him live up to his potential as an obedient, trustworthy companion. Give him the gift of training.

OUR CURRICULUMYour dog will learn to obey the following commands, with hand signals, on and off leash:

HEEL – To walk calmly at your left side, pacing himself to your speed, enjoying the scenery, but paying attention to you.

AUTOMATIC SIT – To automatically sit at the heel position when you stop.

SIT – To sit instantly on one command.

DOWN – To lie down instantly, either near you or from a distance, on one command.

STAY – To stay in a sitting, lying or standing position on one command.

COME – To come instantly on one command.

FINISH – To heel and sit at your left on one command.

STAND FOR EXAM – To stand motionless while being examined on one command.

Behavior problems such as jumping up, biting, chewing, digging, barking, fighting, separation anxiety, etc. are addressed in class.

Your dog must be at least 6 months old and we recommend that he is current on all vaccinations.

Tuition for this 9 week course is $250 for one dog, or $400 for two dogs with our Double Dog Discount Deal. Tuition is fully refundable until three days before class. (This is to hold your spot in the class; otherwise we could offer it someone else. You may reserve a spot in the next session, but you cannot receive a refund.) The class meets once a week for two hours. Registration and payment, is accepted by U.S. Mail, in person on the first day of class, and through our website via PayPal. There is an additional fee for PayPal processing.

A Private Puppy Session is available for puppies from 12 weeks of age to 6 months, by appointment, in your home. We instruct you about general puppy issues, and teach you the skills needed to get your puppy off to a good start. It takes 2 hours and costs $60.

Aggression Problem Solving is available by private appointment, in your home and costs $100 per session.
