Sacrament of Confession
From Bishop Guglielmone, Diocese of Charleston. General absolution has been extended until June 14, the feast of Corpus Christi. Private Confessions will resume on June 1 with the following health and safety recommendations for confessions: Ensure at least six feet of space
between the presider and the penitent.
It is highly recommended that the Priest and penitent wear masks.
Consider celebrating the sacrament standing so that a proper distance is kept, and no surfaces are touched.
If the penitent must be seated, it is preferable to use a chair without armrests or to clean the armrests with sanitizers between each person.
If you hear confessions from multiple penitents back-to-back, you must ensure disinfecting wipes are available and used between each person’s confession.
Prepare your confession at home; given these extraordinary times, there will only be a few minutes to have your confession heard.
Keep your confession brief. Please do not use this opportunity to seek counseling. If you need to speak to a priest for counseling on a particular issue in your life, please make an appointment to discuss this with him outside of the confession setting.
Because of sanitary concerns during COVID-19, please leave the confessional space immediately after your absolution. You may do penance at home or at a safe distance in another portion of the church at your pastor’s discretion.
It is recommended that you wash your hands or use hand sanitizer after your confession.
Please wear a mask if you are able and remember not to touch your face until your hands are washed or sanitized.
In the LORD’s peace, Robert E. Guglielmone
Private confession will be held at Sacred Heart on Tuesday & Thursday at 5:30 pm. Confessions will be heard in the Prayer
Garden. If the weather is not permitting, the Parish Hall will be used.
Enter one at a time through the fence gate or the Hall doors.
YOU MUST WEAR A FACE MASK AT ALL TIMES.
Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Amen.

St. Germaine Cousin
St. Germaine Cousin (1579–1601) was born
in a remote French village to a peasant
farmer. She was born with a deformed right
arm and a disease that causes abscesses in
her neck. Her mother died when she was an
infant, and her father remarried. Due to
Germaine's deformities, her stepmother was
thoroughly disgusted with her. She severely
neglected and physically abused the child,
and taught others to do the same. Starving,
sick, and dressed in rags with no shoes,
Germaine was forced to sleep in the barn.
Her stepmother even attempted to kill her
off, once by sending her to tend sheep near
a wolf-infested forest. St. Germaine was a
simple and pious child, and through her
extreme hardships she developed a deep
interior life. She prayed the rosary and went
to Mass daily, leaving her sheep to the care
of her guardian angel. Even though she was
emaciated, she shared the little food she
had with beggars. Her piety was admired by
the village children, and adults gradually
became aware of her holiness, especially
when news of her miracles began to
circulate. St. Germaine died at the age of
22, succumbing to her poor living
conditions. Many years later her body was
found incorrupt. Villagers began praying for
her intercession and receiving miraculous
cures, resulting in her canonization in 1867.
St. Germaine is the patron saint of
unattractive people, peasant girls, abuse
victims, handicapped people, and
abandoned people. Her feast day
is Monday June 15th.
