Thursday Phonics, 18th June 2020 This week we have recapped set 1, set 2 and set 3 sounds. Today we are going to go over tricky words. These are called tricky words because they cannot be sounded out easily. Tricky words are sometimes known as irregular words, common exception words or sight words.

Task 3: Can you find tricky words in your reading books at home? Can you find tricky words in your sentences and stories you have been writing?

Activity 1: Sight word High Splat!This can be played with members of your household. Draw around your hand and write down the tricky words inside. You can paint or colour your hands if you would prefer. Your partner then says the tricky word and you have to ‘high five

Who can get the highest score in 1 minute? How many sight words can you correctly identify? Try and improve your score each time.

Activity 2: Sight Word Parking

Draw a parking lot, and write tricky words inside each slot.

You can play this game in different ways. First someone can say the tricky word and another person can park the car in the correct parking space.

You can also have a separate stack of tricky word cards. For each car, pick up a card and park the car into the correct spot! Can you the park all the cars into the correct space.
