I got involved in the Transformer program at Bond during my Business and Commerce degrees, attending workshops and information sessions that sparked my interest in entrepreneurship. Through Transformer’s industry connections, I met a social entrepreneur who was helping to set up solar electricity in Africa and it got me thinking: how could I make an impact on global issues?

I was waiting for a coffee at Bond when the idea for Nice Coffee Co. was born. In Kiberia, Kenya, most people live on a single dollar a day – so imagine what you could do with the price of a coffee?

The Transformer program, Bond Business Accelerator, an international internship and a global entrepreneurship competition hosted on campus have all helped me to turn Nice Coffee Co. from idea to reality. The leadership, ethical and critical thinking skills I’m learning in my degree ensure I’m a well rounded, future focused graduate. My teachers have gone above and beyond to help along the way; my accounting and negotiation lecturers regularly give me business advice and I have access to professional legal advice whenever I need it.

Through Nice Coffee Co., we use ethically sourced Kenyan coffee to supply beans-and-machine packages to offices and companies that want their dollars to make a difference. All profits go to St John’s Primary School in Kiberia teaching 450 students. Around 100 schools have been closed in Kenya, so it’s so important to keep this school open to ensure these kids get the education they deserve and are a step closer to breaking the cycle of poverty.

HOW IS A DEGREE STRUCTUREDApplicants who have not previously studied at university would normally enrol in an undergraduate Bachelor degree or Diploma.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTSAdmission to a Bachelor degree is based on Year 12 academic results (ATAR, IB or equivalent) or on the completion of a recognised pathway program.

From 2020, the Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) will replace the Overall Position (OP) as the pathway to tertiary study for Queensland Year 12.

The ATAR will be introduced for students commencing Year 11 in 2019, who will graduate in 2020 and seek entry to tertiary programs from 2021. This will bring Queensland in line with other Australian states and territories.

BACHELOR DEGREEAn undergraduate award of 24 subjects which is commonly the entry qualification for many professions or further study. Each subject has a value of 10 credit points (cps). Some subjects may only be worth 5cps; others may be worth 20cps if they involve a major industry project or thesis.

Ultimately, the value of subjects successfully completed will need to total 240cps for a standard Bachelor degree. (Exceptions include Bachelor of Laws and our ^Medical Program.)

PREREQUISITES Some Bond University programs require specific ATAR subjects as a prerequisite. Please refer to page 59.

COMBINED DEGREESBond’s accelerated schedule inspires many students to undertake a combined degree.

Bachelor of Laws combinations are particularly popular, with the Bachelor of Business / Bachelor of Laws taking just 3 years and 8 months (11 semesters).

Undergraduate-postgraduate pathways are also in demand. A Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Accounting can be completed in 3 years 4 months (10 semesters).

This is just one more reason why Bond graduates stand out from the crowd - you could graduate with two degrees in the same time it takes for others to complete one.

MAJORS, MINORS AND DOUBLE MAJORSA major is a cluster of six elective subjects selected from one area of specialisation, a minor is four subjects and a double major is 12 subjects.

FOUNDATION SUBJECTS AND ELECTIVESEach degree will comprise a specified number of compulsory foundation subjects and electives.

In many cases, Bond allows electives to be chosen from any Faculty, enabling you to design your degree to suit your individual career ambitions or personal interests.

DIPLOMADiplomas are non-degree offerings which are offered in practical and occupational fields of study.

A Diploma can also be completed as a pathway for students who do not meet the academic requirements for direct entry into their chosen Bachelor degree.

WHAT YOUR ATAR RANK REALLY MEANSThe Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) is a number between 0 and 99.95 that indicates your position relative to all the other students who finish Year 12 at the same time. It is worked out by a formula that considers your results from every subject, balancing your strong subjects, your weak subjects and core subjects like English that are essential to further study.

ATAR is used by Australian universities as an entry requirement for various courses, not only as an assessment of academic capability, but also as a way to limit student enrolments according to the number of places available. A high entry ATAR may indicate that there is a strong demand for a particular program but may also mean that there is a high academic standard required for that degree.

The most important thing is to choose a study program that matches your interests. Whether you’re passionate about being a doctor, a lawyer, an entrepreneur or a journalist, you will do well in your studies if you choose the right degree for you.

If your ATAR does not meet the entry requirements for your chosen program or if you chose not to get an ATAR, there are alternative pathways to university study through Foundation Programs and Higher Education Diplomas, such as those offered by Bond University College.

The Bachelor of Construction Management and Quantity Surveying covers a comprehensive range of subjects in the field of construction management and quantity surveying, focusing on the management and delivery of complex construction projects. The curriculum addresses a range of topics including construction technology, construction techniques, plant and equipment, site management, contract administration, building measurement, planning processes and risks. My Bond experience was a whirlwind, being in an accelerated program. Throughout my second year, I had many

incredible opportunities to have work placements through volunteering for projects which included surveying

athletes at the Commonwealth Games Athlete’s Village and testing elite athletes with the AIS Kayaking Unit and the

Gold Coast SUNS Academy. My placement with Atkins Health allowed me to see the impact that encouraging healthy

The Medical Program is designed to equip graduates with the foundational knowledge, skills and attributes required to safely and effectively practise medicine in today’s complex healthcare environment. The first of Bonds 2-part Medical Program (the Bachelor of Medical Studies), is distinguished by its strong educational focus on problem-based learning, interactive workshops and clinical simulation. With small class sizes, students learn in a highly personalised environment with state-of-the-art equipment.

The second of Bonds 2-part Medical Program (the Doctor of Medicine) must be completed for students to be eligible for registration as a medical practitioner in any state or territory in Australia or New Zealand. The MD is distinguished by its strong focus on evidence-based medicine and integrated clinical practice. Due to Bonds tri-semester structure, graduating students will have the advantage of entering the workforce as a Doctor in only 14 semesters.

BACHELOR OF MEDICAL STUDIES (BMEDST)The Bachelor of Medical Studies (BMedSt) is the first of two sequential degrees at Bond University that must be completed in order to be eligible to practise medicine. The Bachelor of Medical Studies is an undergraduate program, sitting at Level 7 of the Australian Qualifications Framework.

The Bachelor of Medical Studies is not available as a standalone program. All students must complete both the Bachelor of Medical Studies (BMedSt) and the Doctor of Medicine (MD) at Bond University to be eligible for registration as a medical practitioner in any state or territory in Australia or New Zealand. Both degrees are awarded at the completion of the MD program.

The program is distinguished by its strong educational focus on case-based learning, evidence-based medicine and integrated clinical practice. Due to small class sizes, students learn in a highly personalised environment with state-of-the-art equipment. Students benefit from a variety of teaching and learning systems, including case-based small group tutorials, problem-based learning, practical classes, clinical skills and laboratory training, self-directed learning, web-based and e-learning, interactive seminars and lectures. This contemporary approach to medical education ensures that learning relates directly to patient care and prepares graduates to assume a high level of responsibility.

The Bachelor of Medical Studies comprises eight semesters delivered over two years and eight months, and is followed by the Doctor of Medicine comprised of six semesters delivered over two years. The two sequential degrees are 14 semesters in total and are equivalent to seven standard academic years in duration. However, with Bond University’s three-semesters-per-year timetable and intensive clinical training periods, these two programs are completed in just four years and eight months, with graduates then eligible to apply for hospital internships.

FURTHER STUDY AT BONDStudents who successfully complete the Bachelor of Medical Studies proceed directly into the Doctor of Medicine program.

DOCTOR OF MEDICINE (MD)The Doctor of Medicine (MD) component is an extended master’s level program and is undertaken through clinical rotations in hospital and community healthcare settings, as well as face-to-face teaching at timetabled education sessions. During this time, students undertake a research or professional project, or a capstone experience and prepare a portfolio of their work.

PROFESSIONAL OUTCOMESGraduates of the sequential degrees (BMedSt and MD) will have the appropriate knowledge, attitudes and skills to function effectively as interns in Australian hospitals and will be ideally positioned to undergo further training in any of the Australasian specialty colleges.

Our previous Medical graduates have secured internships in hospitals across Australia and New Zealand.

PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITIONThe Bachelor of Medical Studies and Doctor of Medicine degrees are accredited by the Australian Medical Council (AMC) ensuring that they meet or exceed the agreed national guidelines for medical education. Upon successful completion of both of the degrees, graduates are eligible for registration as a medical practitioner in any state or territory in Australia or New Zealand.

Our pathway programs are delivered on campus by Bond University College where you will benefit from extra hours of face-to-face teaching in a small class mentored environment. Not only does this mean a substantial reduction in your total accommodation and living costs, it also represents a full year of earnings from being out in the workforce earlier.

FINANCING YOUR DEGREEFEE-HELPFEE-HELP is an interest-free student loan program funded by the Australian Government for all Australian citizens and others who meet the eligibility requirements. From 1 January 2020, a combined HELP loan limit will replace the FEE-HELP limit and will include FEE-HELP, VET Student Loans, VET FEE-HELP and HECS-HELP. Only HECS-HELP borrowing from 1 January 2020 onwards will count towards a person’s HELP limit. Any existing FEE-HELP, VET FEE-HELP or VET Student Loans that counted towards your FEE-HELP limit would count towards the combined HELP limit.

In 2020 the combined HELP loan limit will be $106,319 for most students. The limit for students in the ^Medical Program will be $152,700. Repayments are made through the taxation system at a minimum rate of 1% per annum when your annual income reaches $45,881. The rate of repayment increases as annual income increases. You can apply for FEE-HELP online once you have received an offer from Bond University with your Student Identification Number.

LOYALTY DISCOUNTSBond offers a number of loyalty discounts to students who have a direct family member attending an eligible program at Bond or who have completed an eligible program here. These loyalty programs may provide a reduction of up to 10% on tuition fees.

VICE CHANCELLOR’S ELITE SCHOLARSHIPSOur prestigious Vice Chancellor’s Elite Scholarships are awarded each year to a small group of outstanding applicants. These students are selected on the basis of their exceptional academic achievements, proven leadership abilities and strong personal character. Applicants will be required to provide a school reference to demonstrate their ability to meet the characteristics and traits of Vice Chancellor’s Elite Scholars. Short-listed applicants will also be required to attend a scholarship selection weekend from Friday, 25 September to Saturday, 26 September, 2020.

Successful applicants receive full tuition remission for any undergraduate degree combination (with the exception of the Bond Medical Program). Every Vice Chancellor’s Elite Scholar is also invited to participate in the Vice Chancellor’s Mentoring Program where they will be teamed with a leader in their field for one-on-one professional and personal guidance.

EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIPSExcellence scholarships offer up to 50% tuition remission for any undergraduate degree combination (excluding the Bond Medical Program) and are awarded annually to a number of outstanding applicants who have demonstrated high academic achievement, proven leadership skills and extensive community involvement.

LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIPThe Leadership Scholarship aims to recognise current Year 12 students who have outstanding leadership experience and community involvement with a 25% tuition remission scholarship for any undergraduate degree combination (excluding the Bond Medical Program).

Our studies have allowed us to gain a more extensive range of knowledge of different cultures and traditions, such as how the American political system works and the rules of an American football game.

Travelling around the US has been one of the highlights of our exchange. We haven’t had to go too far to experience something new. We have been fortunate enough to visit Pittsburgh, DC, Chicago, New York City, Tennessee, California and Nevada.

The United States is so much more than we had expected. The people of West Virginia are incredibly welcoming and made us feel at home the second we arrived. We wouldn’t change the experience for anything.

ADMISSION PATHWAYSADJUSTMENT FACTORS If you are a current Australian Year 12 applicant, or you successfully completed your Australian Year 12 studies no more than 2 years ago and have not commenced any university studies, you may be eligible for adjustments to help you get into your intended program at Bond University.

HOW DO ADJUSTMENT FACTORS WORK?You will only be considered for adjustments if you do not meet the minimum ATAR/IB or selection rank required for the program. The adjustments will be applied if you meet the criteria for the relevant adjustment factor/s.

If you meet the eligible criteria, Bond University will grant you adjustment points to increase your selection rank. Adjustment can increase your selection rank, and this may get you an offer for your intended program. You must still meet any prerequisites specified for entry into your intended program.

HAVE YOU COMPLETED AN IN-SCHOOL VET QUALIFICATION?If you complete a VET qualification in school and successfully complete Year 12 (with or without an ATAR), Bond will consider your VET qualification for admission. You may be required to demonstrate English language proficiency by passing the English subject with a grade of C or better, or by undertaking an English proficiency test and achieving the required scores for entry.

If you have also attained an ATAR, then, Bond University will consider the higher ranked of the two qualifications (ATAR or VET) for admission. Advanced standing (credit) may be provided in a similar undergraduate degree.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM ADJUSTMENT?The maximum adjustment applied to each applicant is five (5) ranks from one or more adjustment factors. Each adjustment factor has a maximum adjustment rank.

Adjustment factors cannot be used for entry into the the Bond Medical Program, the Bachelor of Laws program and undergraduate programs with additional requirements such as auditions, interviews, portfolios or questionnaires.For more info, please visit: bond.edu.au/adjustment-factors

^The Medical Program is comprised of two sequential degrees – the Bachelor of Medical Studies (BMedSt) and the Doctor of Medicine (MD). All students selected for entry into the Medical Program will have to complete both the BMedSt and MD to be eligible for registration as a medical practitioner in any state or territory in Australia or New Zealand. Both degrees are awarded at the completion of Year 5.
