A very warm welcome Queenstownians!
Congratulations on reaching this important milestone in your educational journey. No matter
where your starting point is, we believe in developing each one of you to your fullest potential.
Each one of you has your own unique strengths and abilities and we are thrilled to have you
here in our school. Our school has a rich history and heritage. We are proud to have many
esteemed members of our society as our alumni. We hope their success will spur you to scale
greater heights in the future.
Our school is one of the pilot schools for Full Subject Based Banding (FSBB). With FSBB, you
will be placed in a mixed ability classrooms where you will be exposed to diverse perspectives
that will hone your critical thinking skills and nurture your creativity. The new experience in a
secondary school will be different from your experience in your primary school. You will have
new friends, new teachers and will be learning new subjects in a new environment. But do
not worry about these changes as they are meant to grow you in body, mind, soul and spirit –
to make you future-ready as well as to be an individual that embodies the school values of
respect, resilience, integrity, service and excellence (R2ISE). In the coming weeks, our
dedicated team of teachers will get to know you better. Your Secondary 1 teachers, especially
your Class Mentors, are hand-picked to help you make a smooth transition from your 6 years
in primary school to secondary education.
Strive to have discipline, determination and diligence so that you can be realise your true
potential. As you join the QTSS family, we hope you will embrace your new family by being
respectful to the community in which you now live -- your new teachers, your new peers and
those in the community and neighbourhood. Be considerate, be cooperative, and be caring
and always uphold the good image of the school.
In the next few years in the secondary school, you will grow to be young men and women.
We urge you to make safe and responsible decisions about what you do, where you go every
day and every night; about your homework, your free time and who you mix with. You will

4. Secondary 1 students offering foreign language as MTL-in-lieu (French, German or
Japanese) will need to submit a re-application so as to be placed on the waiting list
for admission into MOE Language Centre (MOELC). While waiting for the vacancy,
students are to continue their study with private tutors or private centres. Students
offering Asian language as MTL-in-lieu (Arabic, Burmese or Thai) do not need to

6. As MOELC is a third language centre and priority is given to third language students,
students will be notified through their schools to sit for a readiness test should there
be vacancies at the MOELC. Students who have not been notified by their schools to
sit for a readiness test or did not pass the test are required to continue with private
study.
7. At the start of each school year, the students are reminded to the need to attend
private lessons regularly and the requirement to take the Asian/foreign language
paper at the GCE O level examinations. During mid-year May 2021, students are
required to show documentation that indicate private learning of Asian/foreign
