32021 Annual Meeting and Exhibition

Hello LeadingAge Missouri Members & Supporters!

We invite you to participate in LeadingAge Missouri’s 52nd Annual Meeting & Exhibition September 20-22 at the Chase Park Plaza Royal Sonesta Hotel in St. Louis!

Recently, I traveled our State visiting LeadingAge Missouri members. That’s significant for two reasons. First, while COVID-19 continues to challenge us (parts of our State have high positivity rates), with prudent precautions, it’s safe for groups to gather.

Second, it’s important for our membership to engage in activities that enhance our service to Missouri seniors. We cannot forever isolate, we must not stagnate, we must move

“FORWARD”.

“FORWARD” is the theme for this year’s gathering of Missouri’s best aging services providers and supporters. After last year’s “Virtual Fall Forum”, we are intentionally “going back” (to in-person attendance) to

move FORWARD! There’s no “masking” our excitement (word play intended!). We’ve “injected” the Conference with education, inspiration, recognition, fellowship, and fun! The education and activities are tried and “tested”, giving you a real “shot” at making 2 ½ days at our Annual Conference a highly valuable, deeply meaningful experience. Puns and word play aside, this Conference is for you! We encourage you to attend to support your efforts to deliver better senior living and healthcare.

Day 1 opens with inspiration from Missourian Kim Becking about conquering change, boosting resilience, and accelerating success, followed by a screening of “Fast Forward”. Through this creative, poignant documentary, we walk in the shoes of the seniors we serve. Next, we honor the best among us at a recognition and awards luncheon before an afternoon of education followed by social time at day’s end.

Day 2 kicks off with the insightful (often humorous!) observations of iN2L Founder, Jack York, who has traveled the nation “cruising & crooning” with seniors in his karaoke van. Then, after a day of timely topical breakouts, Day 2 culminates with a Chase Park Plaza rooftop reception with views of the St. Louis skyline. When Day 3 dawns, aging services policy and advocacy will be on tap for members at the Public Policy Town Hall and Annual Business Meeting, before the Annual Conference concludes with education deep dives that push us FORWARD.

At our Annual Conference, you’ll share successes, exchange ideas, renew inspiration and build collegial relationships—and you’ll return to your calling better equipped to serve older Missourians.  Whether you’re an executive of a multi-site organization, CNA, hospice case manager or affordable housing service coordinator, you’ll find solutions for challenges and discover new ways to improve operations and quality. In short, you’ll move FORWARD. Perhaps it’s “forward” of us, but we want you to attend!

That said, to protect conference participants and boost everyone’s level of comfort, LeadingAge Missouri will require the following:

All attendees, speakers and exhibitors must present proof of full vaccination before attending the conference. For those with a religious or medical reason why they cannot meet the vaccination requirement, a negative COVID-19 test result administered no more than 48 hours prior to arrival must be presented.

All attendees and exhibitors will be required to wear a mask unless they are actively eating or drinking. In education sessions, speakers are required to wear a face covering in the meeting room except when presenting their content and directly addressing the audience.

Further, we are working with the hotel to increase physical distancing in conference meeting spaces and to enhance sanitization. These precautions highlight our commitment to keeping all conference participants safe. We will strictly adhere to CDC Guidance for safe gatherings and the requirements of the City of St. Louis and the hotel in effect at the time of the conference. Finally, we recognize everyone has a role and responsibility to achieve safety and comfort. Beyond the precautions announced, we are asking all participants to pledge to stay home or in their hotel room if they are feeling sick. More information will be sent to registrants on how to comply with these conference precautions and requirements soon.

Thank you for doing your part to keep the LeadingAge Missouri Annual Meeting & Exhibition safe and comfortable for everyone. We look FORWARD to seeing you September 20-22!

Hello LeadingAge Missouri Members & Supporters!“WHAT IF?” – that’s a thought-provoking question asked by people who make a difference. It’s the perfect theme for the 50th Annual Meeting & Exhibition of LeadingAge Missouri!

The “what ifs?” sparking our field’s improvement are many. Let’s start with a timely, easy one: “What if” YOU joined Missouri’s best aging services providers and supporters to celebrate 50 years of association work at its 50th annual meeting? Without question, you’d absorb valuable education, inspiration, fellowship and fun! Please join us September 4-6 at The Chase Park Plaza Royal Sonesta Hotel in St. Louis!

Fifty years ago, young Americans wearing bell bottoms and tie-die shirts protested the Vietnam war. Infant FM radio played the Rolling Stones’ “Honky Tonk Woman”, Zager & Evans’ “In the Year 2525” and The Archies “Sugar Sugar”. Moviegoers took in True Grit, Funny Girl, Easy Rider and The Love Bug. “Broadway Joe” Namath led the NY Jets and AFL to their first Super Bowl victory; the “Miracle Mets” won the World Series and the St. Louis Blues lost the Stanley Cup. In 1969, the world witnessed Woodstock, a final Beatles concert and Neil Armstrong walking on the moon! 1969 was quite a year!

At home in Missouri, our 1969 aging services predecessors were busy organizing and incorporating the Missouri Association of Homes for the Aging (now LeadingAge Missouri) and planning its first membership meeting. A half century later, we still gather to learn, to refresh and to renew commitments to principles our founders gave us to guide us. At 50, LeadingAge Missouri has a rich history of helping its mission-driven members achieve their missions for older Missourians. We are primed for our next half-century of member service. Help us recognize our anniversary and envision our future during 2 1/2 amazing days of learning and celebrating at the 2019 Annual Conference.

Opening Day will feature a unique “painting performance” in a keynote presentation that fuses art, education and inspiration to deliver insight and awaken creativity and innovation. Conference participants then transform into moviegoers in the Chase Park Plaza theater for a poignant film. Next, lunch and recognition are featured at the Annual Awards Luncheon before afternoon educational breakouts. Day 1 concludes with a “technology” General Session and social time with Business Members.

Day 2 kicks off with renowned geriatrician, entrepreneur, author, professor and father of the Eden Alternative and Green House Project - Dr. Bill Thomas - who will make a pit stop during his “ChangingAging” tour. Thereafter, participants choose from 15 education sessions until the major 50th Anniversary Celebration event commences at day’s end on the Chase rooftop.

Day 3 balances advocacy and education. After a State of the Association summary and Business Meeting, LeadingAge Members are invited to participate in a National/State Public Policy Town Hall. Facilitated by Missouri members with help from LeadingAge National, Missouri members will engage in a conversation that informs policy agendas in Washington D.C. and Jefferson City. After policy diving, the What if? Conference will conclude with educational deep dives on timely topics.

At the  LeadingAge Missouri Annual Meeting, you’ll share successes, exchange ideas, renew inspiration and build collegial relationships—and after 2 ½ enriching days, you’ll return to your calling better equipped to serve older Missourians. Whether you’re an executive of a multi-site organization, CNA, hospice case manager or affordable housing service coordinator, you’ll find solutions for challenges and discover ways to improve operations and quality. Passionate commitment, personal growth and organizational excellence coalesce at the Annual Meeting. WHAT IF you join us September 4-6 to reenergize your commitment, refresh your knowledge and renew your passion?

we’ll be coming out stronger. But through all this pain, let’s take a break and celebrate some of the reasons we got into the health care arena in the first place.

112021 Annual Meeting and Exhibition

2:30 pm–3:30 pm 21 Optimizing Wound Care Stacey Zerban, LNHA, Administrator with Friendship Village Sunset Hills

Historically, post-acute providers considered wound care patients extremely resource-intensive from both a staffing and supplies perspective, and feared the cost of caring for these patients might negatively impact their bottom lines. With implementation of both the Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) and Patient-Driven Grouping Models (PDGM), wound care has taken on a new importance, positioning providers to lean into the wound care opportunity. ConvaTec Complete (TM) is an innovative program focused on helping post-acute providers meet the opportunities provided by PDPM and PDGM, by leveraging a standardized formulary and clinical pathway, which incorporates Wound Hygiene, as well as mobile digital training tools, to meet the challenges of staff turnover. Participants in this session will learn about the success of a Life Care Community campus in implementing the ConvaTec Complete (TM) program to achieve operational efficiencies and improved clinical and financial outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
