Be enthralled with the mesmerizing Knossos Palace archaeological site and the fabled and historical Heraklion, King Minos’ capital city.

Travel along a scenic road to Knossos where you will tour the remains of this excavated palace that once served as the political center of the Minoan civilization. Seat of the legendary King Minos, it is also connected to thrilling stories such as the myth of the Minotaur and the Labyrinth, and the story of Daedalus and Icarus—the boy who flew too close to the sun. The original palace dates back to 1900 BC and was destroyed in an earthquake. A much more imposing palace was constructed in its place and this was meticulously restored by Sir Arthur Evans. Four expansive wings spread out from the center and formed an extensive compound. As you stroll this elaborate labyrinth of walkways and corridors, you will come upon the royal living quarters, vast halls where events were held, workshops, storage areas and an area that was once a theater. The site truly gives visitors a great understanding

of ancient Minoan life.

After your visit at Knossos, drive to Heraklion town and enjoy a traditional Greek lunch before touring the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion. Considered to be one of the most important museums in Greece, its collections include artifacts that span over 5,000 years of Cretan history and the world’s best collection of Minoan art and culture. Following your visit, transfer back to the pier.

Special Note: This tour includes approximately three hours of moderate walking/standing that includes steps and some uneven surfaces. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and may not be suitable for those with walking difficulties. We recommend wearing weather appropriate comfortable clothing, flat walking shoes, a sun cap, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

JSH302AP: EXPLORE A TRIO OF CRETAN LANDMARKS - ELOUNDA, SPINALOGA AND AGIOS NIKOLAOS - 11-NIGHT NAVIGATING GREEK WONDERS - JULY 24, 2021 | $85PP

Spend a full day visiting the ancient settlement of Olounda - a favorite of Minoan luminaries, the historical island of Spinalonga and lastly, the renowned resort town of Agios Nikolaos.

Start your day with a drive from the port to the village of Elounda, situated on the southern coast of the Gulf of Elounda and just east of the ancient settlement of Olounda from which it has taken its name. Once a location favored by illustrious figures from Minoan Crete and even some of the more historical figures of our time, this popular fishing village turned resort town still retains its authentic charm.

Boarding a small boat in Elounda, you will enjoy a scenic cruise to the island of Spinalonga. A leper colony until 1957, the island today has gained notoriety as the location featured in author Victoria Hislop’s best-selling novel The Island. Your guided tour around the island includes a stop at the Venetian Fortress with its centuries of history. After the 1571 Ottoman conquest of Cyprus, the Venetians built the fortress in fear the Ottomans would then try to use the sandy shores here to land in Crete.

Sailing back to Elounda, re-board your coach and drive to Agios Nikolaos, the international and cosmopolitan resort town visited by thousands each year. Lake Voulismini here is perhaps its most charming feature. Connected to the sea by a channel and surrounded by a backdrop of red rock and green trees, the lake is fed by a natural hot spring and believed to have curative powers. Legend has it that Athena and Artemis bathed in its warm waters.

Following an informative guided walk in Agios Nikolaos and some free time to grab a bite to eat or do some shopping, you will rejoin your coach for the drive back to the pier in Sitia.

Special Note: This tour includes approximately 90 minutes of moderate walking/standing that may include steps and uneven surfaces, plus any additional discretionary walking during free time. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and may not be suitable for those with walking difficulties. We recommend wearing weather appropriate comfortable clothing, flat walking shoes, a sun cap, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Shoulders, legs. and midriffs must be covered when entering religious sites.

NOVOROSSIYSK, RUSSIA

Come with us and spend three days exploring both Novorossiysk and the indomitable city of Moscow, rich in history, culture, and character.

Day 1 Disembark the ship and commence a short city walk during which you will enjoy views of Tsemesskaya Bay, several monuments, and an exterior visit of the battleship “Mikhail Kutuzov”, one the world’s legendary combat ships that now houses the Black Sea Navy Museum. After your guided walk, you will board you coach and travel to Abrau-Durso, often referred to as the “Russian Small Switzerland”. Abrau is a natural lake nestled in the mountains of the peninsula and is the largest mountain lake in North Caucasus. The history of the winery here goes back over 135 years and is a very unique place where Russian sparkling wines are made using classical French technology. The significantly “softer” taste of these wines has resulted in the winery winning many international awards and during your visit you will be treated to a tasting of five varieties of these sparkling wines (please bring a light jacket or sweater as it can be cool in the wine cellars).

Following your winery stop, proceed to a local restaurant for lunch, after which you will transfer directly to the airport in Anapa for your flight to Moscow.

On arrival in Moscow, you will be greeted and transferred to the Radisson Royal Hotel (or similar). After check-in, board a boat for a beautiful sunset cruise on the Moscva River, followed by a welcome dinner.

Day 2 Your day starts with an early breakfast at the hotel and then you will tour the city, starting with the Kremlin grounds and Armoury Chamber. No visit to Moscow is complete without spending time exploring this iconic complex that is included as a UNESCO World Cultural and National Heritage Site. For centuries, the Kremlin has been witness to many well-known and tragic events in Russia’s past and as such, is a treasure trove of Russian history. Begin with a tour of the extraordinary, State Armoury, the oldest museum in Russia and home to a vast collection of precious stones, 18th and 19th century jewelry and other priceless artifacts that date back to the 14th century. It is also home to an impressive collection of carriages that once belonged to Russian rulers and dignitaries, precious fabrics, royal gowns, and Faberge eggs. Your time here includes viewing Cathedral Square that consists of the Assumption, Archangel, and Annunciation Cathedrals; the Patriarch’s Palace; and the Ivan the Great Bell Tower complex.

Next, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and then commence your tour of the city with a visit to the House of Romanov Boyards where the Romanov family lived in the 16th century. The first tsar of the Romanov dynasty, Mikhail Romanov was believed to have been born in this house in 1596. Today, it is a museum devoted to the lifestyle of the Russian nobility during the 16th – 17th centuries. Re-board your coach for a panoramic tour of the city that includes viewing the Novodevichy Convent, Moscow University, the Hill of Glory, and the Cathedral of Christ the Redeemer (if able to enter, please note shorts and sleeveless shirts are not permitted).

Continuing on, travel to Bunker 42 which was constructed in 1955 as a command post of the strategic nuclear forces of the Soviet Union. This anti-nuclear underground facility is located 213 feet under Taganka Square. During your tour, learn how the bunker’s construction serves as protection from the damaging factors of a nuclear explosion and get a sobering look at the seriousness of the risk of a nuclear war. See how staff members operated inside the bunker and watch a special effects imitation of a nuclear missile launch that definitely won’t leave you indifferent.

After the bunker tour, be treated to dinner in the unique and somewhat mysterious Bunker 42 restaurant, actually located within the depths of the bunker itself. After feasting on some traditional favorites, you will transfer back to the hotel for the night.

Day 3 Kick off your final day with breakfast in the hotel and then transfer to the airport for your flight to Sochi. After touchdown, transfer to a local restaurant for lunch before starting your afternoon of touring this wonderful Black Sea city most recently known for hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics. Begin with a drive up into the green hills that overlook Sochi’s beaches for a visit to Stalin’s Dacha. Nestled amongst towering California pine trees is the imposing two-story villa that was once Joseph Stalin’s secret dacha. The subdued grey-green color on its façade was intentional, serving to camouflage it from prying eyes, unfriendly visitors, or possible artillery attacks from the sea. Built in 1937, this stately residence with its shaded verandahs is now open to the public and serves as a remarkable and historic hotel for well-connected visitors to Sochi. The villa remains nearly as it was in Stalin’s time, with most of its original fixtures still in place. There is even a life-sized wax image of Stalin to be found here, seated at his table before a silver inkpot that was presented to him by Mao Zedong.

Your day draws to a close with a panoramic drive to the port where you will rejoin the ship.

Special Note: This tour includes a mixture of mild to moderate to activity over three days that includes, steps, cobblestone, and uneven surfaces. The tour may not be suitable for wheelchair guests; however, those who do participate must have a collapsible wheelchair, be able to enter and exit the transportation on their own and have a companion to assist them. Those with other physical limitations or health concerns should carefully evaluate their personal situation. We recommend wearing weather appropriate comfortable, smart casual clothing; flat walking shoes with a closed toe; a sun cap; sunglasses and sunscreen. The order of the sites visited may vary.

AMR302AP: THE UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE CITY OF SAFRANBOLU: A HISTORICAL TRADING CENTER 9-NIGHT HEART OF THE BLACK SEA AUGUST 11, 2021 | $299PP

Travel to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Safranbolu for a fascinating look at this city that once served as an important trading center.

While the drive out to Safranbolu, takes a bit of time (60 minutes), the passing colorful scenery makes the journey interesting and the time pass quickly.

A must-see destination for anyone visiting the area, Safranbolu was the earliest town in Turkey to realize that preserving its old town could serve to draw tourism to the area. The success of Safranbolu’s efforts later inspired many other surrounding regions to similarly restore their own historic districts and preserve their levels of authenticity. Safranbolu itself is famous for its typical Ottoman houses and streets which led to its qualification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The town’s key role in the caravan trade spanned many centuries, first developing as a trading center after the Turkish conquest in the 11th century. By the 13th century, it had grown into an important caravan station. The town’s layout is a testament to its organic growth in response to economic expansion, and its buildings are representative of its evolving socio-economic structure up to the disappearance of the traditional caravan routes and beyond.

Your time exploring the city starts with a visit to the old Agora and Cinci Han and then afterwards, enjoy some traditional tea and a Turkish pastry.

Rejoining your coach, drive back to Amasra, stopping along the way for a visit at the 18th century Incekaya aqueduct. Constructed of rubble stone, it is a marvel of ancient engineering.

Special Note: This tour includes approximately three hours of moderate walking/standing that includes inclines, steps, and uneven surfaces. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with physical limitations or other health concerns. Participants should be in reasonably good physical condition. KEPEZ, TURKEY

Explore 4,000 years of history as you explore one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world on this visit to the ancient city of Troy.

Relax and enjoy the passing scenery as you make the drive to Troy, location of the fabled mythological story of Helen and Paris. As the myth tells us, Helen was the daughter of King Sparta and was abducted by Paris, a Trojan Prince. This action sparked hostilities between the Trojans and the Achaeans which led to the Trojan war. The story goes that unable to take the city, the Trojans left behind the famous Trojan horse filled with soldiers and that is how they conquered the city. While there was in fact a Trojan War that took place around the 12th century BC, it is likely the story of Helen, Paris and the Trojan horse were simply a mythological fable.

Troy is not only a Turkish National Park it is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While the ruins here comprise one of the world’s most famous archaeological sites, you will not find the usual marble columns and other artistic remains. Instead, the ruins at Troy serve as a poignant reminder of long-past wars, the suffering of the people and how once thriving cities were reduced to rubble.

When your visit comes to an end, make the return drive back to the pier.

Special Note: This tour includes approximately 90 minutes of moderate walking/standing that includes numerous steps and uneven surfaces. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and is not considered suitable for those with walking difficulties. We recommend wearing weather appropriate comfortable clothing; flat walking shoes; a sun cap; sunglasses and sunscreen.

BZC302AP: BOZCAADA’S EXCELLENT VINICULTURAL HERITAGE: OLD TOWN VISIT & WINERY15-NIGHT HISTORIC TREK THROUGH TURKEY AND ISRAELAUGUST 16, 2021 | $189PP

The famous Greek historian Herodotus quoted, “God created Bozcaada for those who visited there, to have a long life.” We are certain you will agree at the end of this tour that not only gives you an overview of this charming town, but also showcases its vinicultural heritage. Meet your guide at the port and travel into Bozcaada’s Old Town for a stroll through its quaint narrow streets. Be delighted by the colorful traditional homes you’ll find here and everywhere you look, there seems to be flowers in bloom. As you walk through these authentic streets, you will be able to witness the harmonious combination of Greek and Turkish architecture evidenced in the buildings.

While the history and architecture of Bozcaada are noteworthy, its crowning glory is undoubtedly its vineyards and local wine production. The grape culture here is an inseparable part of life on the island. The vinicultural heritage here dates back almost 3,000 years and there is virtually no local resident who does not have some type of history or connection with wine making. In fact, archaeologists working on the island found coins dating back to 5 B.C. with the face of Zeus on one side and a bunch of grapes on the other, leading specialists to think that the island’s vinicultural history is perhaps one of the oldest in the world.

The locals are only too happy to have you taste some of their lovingly produced wine and you will get that chance at one of the best wineries on the island. Enjoy touring the winery and learning more about the wine growing and production of Bozcaada’s excellent wines and afterwards, be treated to a tasting of some of their finest varieties.

Leaving the winery, walk back to the town center where you can further explore on your own before rejoining your coach for the drive back to the port.

Special Note: This tour includes nearly four hours of moderate walking/standing that includes numerous steps and uneven surfaces. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and is not considered suitable for those with walking difficulties. We recommend wearing weather appropriate comfortable clothing; flat walking shoes; a sun cap; sunglasses and sunscreen. Shoulders and legs must be covered when entering religious sites.

free time to stroll about and do some shopping.

Rejoining your guide, it’s a quick stop at a local Turkish coffee shop to taste some famous Turkish coffee before transferring back to the pier. Special Note: Participation on this tour is limited to a maximum of 10 guests. This tour includes approximately 3-hours of moderate walking/standing that includes steps and some uneven surfaces. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and may not be suitable for those with other walking difficulties. DIKILI, TURKEY

Explore one of the most popular ancient Greek cities in Turkey, renowned for its theater, Altar and oldest hospital in the ancient world.

From the port, drive along a scenic route that travels through beautiful countryside to the city of Pergamon. First settled by the Aeolic Greeks in the 8th century BC, the city came into prominence following the death of Alexander the Great in 332 BC. Because of its great library, many scholars and teachers made the city their home, and parchment paper was first invented here. Arriving at Pergamon, first visit the Acropolis, which today is only accessible by cable car. Surrounded by three walls, the city had many public and private buildings, including temples and palaces. While there are very few traces of the walls today, remains of impressive monuments can still be seen,

including the outstanding masterpiece of the Pergamon Altar. Pergamon was the northernmost of the seven churches of Asia cited in the New Testament Book of Revelation and was referred to as the Throne of the Devil.

Next, visit the Library of Pergamon, built by Eumenes II and considered to be second only to the library in Alexandria, Egypt. Continue on to the Temple of Trajan, built by Hadrian. The temple was built of marble and most likely on the site of a previous Hellenistic building. While here, you can view the ruins of the Zeus Altar, the finest altar ever built around the time of 180 BC that stood on its own with no temple. Most of the original altar and friezes are now housed in Berlin at the Pergamon Museum.

From here, drive to the Kizil Avlu (Red Basilica), perhaps the largest and best-known structure in Pergamon. Made of red brick, the temple was dedicated to the gods of Egypt. Two pools in the temple with towers indicate ritual cleaning rites and a religious background that was neither Greek nor Roman.

Before leaving Pergamon, visit Asklepion which lies at the base of the Acropolis. This ancient healing center was founded in the fourth century BC and was constructed around a sacred spring that still flows today. Over several centuries, it became one of the most renowned healing centers in the ancient world and was also notable for being the world’s first psychiatric hospital. KEK301AP: KALEKOY’S MEDIEVAL CASTLE AND THE SURREAL SUNKEN CITY OF SIMENA15-NIGHT HISTORIC TREK THROUGH TURKEY AND ISRAELAUGUST 23, 2021 | $299PP

Visit the key attractions in the region - the village of Kalekoy and the sunken city of Simena and discover for yourself why the Kekova region was declared a Specially Protected Area in 1990.

Start by taking a local boat to Kalekoy, a small yet colorful village that is only accessible by boat. Built on the acropolis of the ancient city of Simena, from the top of its medieval castle you are treated to splendid views of the entire bay. After you have had time to drink in the views and take some photos from this lofty viewpoint, make your way back to your boat and cruise to the sunken city of Simena. Embraced by gorgeous turquoise waters, most areas of the city can still be seen from the boat and some parts are barely submerged. The crystal-clear waters tend to lend a touch of mystery to the ruins that lie beneath the surface. One of the more extraordinary sights is that of a Lycian tomb sitting in the middle of the water, an emblematic image of this ancient sunken city.

Before returning to the port, some free time will be allotted for those who would like to take a swim in the waters here so be sure to wear your swimsuit under your clothes and bring a towel.

Special Note: This tour includes approximately one hour of moderate walking that includes numerous steps, uneven surfaces, and inclines. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and is not considered suitable for those with walking difficulties. We recommend wearing a swimsuit under weather appropriate comfortable clothing; flat walking shoes with a non-slip sole; a sun cap; sunglasses and sunscreen. If you wish to swim, please bring a towel from the ship.

9-NIGHT EGYPT AND ISRAEL IMMERSIONAUGUST 30, 2021 | $799PP

12-NIGHT MONUMENTAL EGYPT AND ISRAELSEPTEMBER 12, 20211 | $799PP

Experience some of the world’s most incredible scenery and historical finds as you journey first to the Dead Sea and then on to Masada, a mountain fort that is now a national Jewish shrine, and world famous for its recognition by UNESCO for its unique structure and history. From the lofty heights of Masada to the lowest point on earth at the Dead Sea, this tour truly takes you to the heart of Israel.

Leave Ashdod port and make the 2.5-hour drive to the Masada Fortress via Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. The landscape is both desolate and mesmerizing as you descend through the Judean desert into the valley of the Dead Sea. Towering high above this is the legendary Masada. In King Herod’s day, it was a luxury refuge complete with magnificent palaces and excavated rock cisterns to supply water. Around AD 73, after a three-year-long Roman siege, more than 950 Jews took their own lives at Masada rather than face a future of slavery.

When you arrive, a cable car will convey you to the summit for a walk around the site of this famous and historical last stand. Among the fascinating sights are the wall, northern palace, synagogue, western palace, Roman ramp, and siege camps. After spending nearly two hours here, return via cable car to the floor of the valley where you will have some time for photos.

Continue from here to the Dead Sea where you will be treated to lunch at hotel that overlooks this remarkable body of water. After lunch, those who wish may choose to take a swim in the mineral-rich waters that are so salty you cannot sink!

After a day steeped in history, transfer back to the pier in Ashdod.

Special Note: This tour includes approximately three hours of moderate walking/standing on primarily flat surfaces. Time spent aboard the coach is approximately 6.5 hours. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and may not be suitable for those with other walking difficulties. We recommend wearing weather appropriate comfortable clothing; flat walking shoes with a non-slip sole; a sun cap; sunglasses and sunscreen. If you plan to take a dip in the Dead Sea, bring an old swimsuit as the water can cause discoloration. Aqua shoes are also recommended. Towels and lockers are provided at the hotel. In the event of flash floods in the Judean Desert the tour will not pass by Qumran.

Spend the day visiting the ancient settlement of Olounda - a favorite of Minoan luminaries and the historical island of Spinalonga.

Sailing back to Elounda, enjoy a buffet of traditional Cretan snacks that include mini pies, meatballs and salads. There is plenty of free time afforded here to explore the shops and perhaps visit the nearby Blue Flag beach, so you may want to wear swimwear under your clothes and bring a beach towel with you.

Enjoy an off-the-beaten track experience in the northern Israeli town of Safed, a haven for artists and scholars. Later, experience a wine tasting at one of the area’s leading wineries. From the pier travel by coach along the famous route that was described in James Michener’s book, “The Source” to the community of Safed. Located 3,200 feet above sea level and nestled in the mountains of the Upper Galilee, it is the highest location in Israel and commands magnificent views east to the Golan Heights, north to Mt. Hermon and Lebanon, west to Mt. Meron and the Amud Valley, and south to Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee. Historical sources indicate that Safed was founded in the 2nd century AD during Roman times and local legend is that the city was founded by one of Noah’s sons after the great flood. During the 13th century, Safed became the center for many Jewish scholars who founded the Zohar and Kabala theories. Today, it has seen a resurgence of popularity, once again becoming a center for Jewish learning. In addition to that, this utterly delightful mountain enclave with its quaint cobblestone streets has also gained a reputation as being a haven for artists. During your time here you will visit the vibrant artists’ colony as well as the ancient Synagogue quarter. Next, you will make the scenic 30-minute drive to the Dalton Winery, a leading winery set in these same beautiful green mountains of the Upper Galilee. The combination of high altitude, optimum soil conditions and the unique climate found here provides the ideal conditions for growing grapes in Israel. Upon arrival, have an enjoyable tour of the winery and afterwards, you are invited to take part in a wine tasting that includes some savory snacks. After approximately 1-hour at the winery, you will make the transfer back to the port in Haifa. Special Note: This tour includes nearly 3-hours of moderate walking/standing and includes some steps, natural and uneven surfaces. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and may not be suitable for those with other mobility issues. We recommend weather appropriate conservative attire; sun cap; sunglasses; sunscreen; and flat, walking shoes with a closed toe. Shoulders, legs, and midriffs must be covered when entering religious sites and head coverings are required. It is further suggested that guests bring a bottle of water from the ship.

At the end of your visit, you will rejoin your coach for the drive back to the pier. Special Note: This tour includes approximately two hours of moderate walking/standing that includes some steps and uneven surfaces. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and is not considered suitable for those with walking difficulties. We recommend wearing weather appropriate comfortable clothing; flat walking shoes; a sun cap; sunglasses and sunscreen.

Those seeking a mind/body experience that satisfies your emotional and physical senses, this just might be the perfect tour. Located in the heart of the Carmel Forest lies Ein Hod, a quaint artists’ village where a community of artists reside and create their work. During your time here, you will join an intuitive painting workshop where you are encouraged to let go of your expectations and just allow your painting to evolve from the heart. You will also be treated to the musical expressions of Yonatan Bar Shay, a hand pan musician who will entertain you with the soothing sounds of his unique and melodic instrument. ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT

Spend a full day discovering all of Alexandria’s landmark attractions that span centuries of fascinating history.

Your day of touring starts with a drive to the Catacombs of Kom El Shaquafa. Discovered in 1900, the catacombs represent the largest Roman cemetery in Alexandria and include the remains of more than 300 who perished in the city. The catacombs are comprised of three levels that have been carved 90 feet deep into the rock and are accessed by a series of descending steps.

Up next on your day’s touring agenda is a visit to Pompey’s Pillar, an 82-foot red Aswan granite column with a circumference of 29 feet and was constructed to honor Emperor Diocletain. From here, drive to the Roman Theater. Unearthed during excavations in 1960, this well-preserved Roman theater features galleries, sections of mosaic flooring and marble seating for up to 800 spectators.

Your morning ends with a relaxing lunch at one of Alexandria’s famous restaurants that overlooks the brilliant blue waters of the Mediterranean. Following your lunch break, your tour resumes with photo stops at the Citadel of Qait Bay, the stunning Abu El Abbas Mosque, and finally a stop at the unknown soldier monument.

Your final stop for the day is at the Alexandria Library. First commissioned in 295 BC by the Egyptian ruler Ptolemy I Soter, it was one of the cultural wonders of the ancient world. Representatives of Ptolemy traveled the world collecting books for the Library and it was filled not only with books pertaining to Egypt and Greece, but the entire ancient world. At one time the Library even held the original works of Euripides and Sophocles. Along with being a repository for books, it was also a museum, a school, and a center for scholastic research. Sadly, in 48 BC the city fell under attack from Julius Caesar and a massive fire engulfed large parts of the library, destroying at least 40,000 scrolls. There is a lot of speculation about what finally completely destroyed the library with many believing it was this fire. However, there is also the theory that the library was only partially destroyed by fire but later succumbed to decline over the course of several centuries when scholars were forced to leave the city. In recent years, the Egyptian government and UNESCO joined forces and brought the library back to life as a cultural center for the world.

Filled with memories of a day not soon forgotten, you will drive back to the pier and your waiting ship.

Special Note: This tour includes approximately three hours of mild to moderate walking that includes some steps and natural and uneven surfaces. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and may not be suitable for those with other mobility concerns. We recommend wearing weather appropriate comfortable clothing; sturdy, flat walking shoes with a closed toe; a sun cap; sunglasses and sunscreen.

Spend the day exploring the UNESCO World Heritage site of Mount Teide National Park, location of Spain’s highest mountain which is also the highest mountain in the Atlantic Ocean.

From the pier, make the short drive in the direction of La Laguna where you will join the road that leads into the Esperanza Forest. Cool Eucalyptus, abundant greenery and tantalizing glimpses of Mount Teide characterize this wonderful route to the National Park. Weather permitting, a photo stop will be made at the viewpoint so that you can capture the incredible scenery. Before reaching your destination, another stop will be made for a short coffee break.

Declared a National Park in 1954 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007, Las Cañadas covers an area of over 33,000 acres and is in fact, the interior crater of the mountain from which the majestic

peak of Mount Teide emerges. In contrast to the greenery of the Esperanza Forest is the stark wilderness of the lava fields as seen in the nearby Ucanca Valley. Towering over all of this is Mount Teide at over 12,000 feet. Not only is it the highest mountain in Spain, but it is also the 13th-highest mountain in the European Union.

Next, make your way to the zone called Roques de Garcia, an area known for its multitude of uniquely shaped volcanic rocks that are impressive in both their size and shape. The tour will pause here for you to enjoy some free time and capture some remarkable photos before driving back to the pier.

Special Note: This tour is primarily seated with limited walking mostly at the guest’s discretion during free time. The driving time on the coach is approximately 3.5 hours. The tour is available to wheelchair guests who have a collapsible wheelchair, are able to make their own way on and off the transportation with limited assistance and have a companion to assist them. We recommend wearing weather appropriate comfortable clothing to include a light jacket; flat walking shoes with a non-slip sole; a sun cap; sunglasses and sunscreen.

Calling all Foodies! Come discover the real local flavors of Barcelona as you go shopping with a local chef to the Santa Catarina Market and later, learn how to use your purchases to prepare a marvelous Paella. Making it even more fun, in the spirit of friendly competition, each group’s meal will be “judged” to determine which is deemed to be the best. From the pier, it’s a short drive to Edificio Correos (Barcelona’s Post Office) where you will leave your vehicle behind and proceed on foot to La Boquería Market where you will have approximately 45-minutes to stroll about and do some shopping. From there, you will next make the 25-minute walk to Santa Caterina Market where you will meet your local chef. Located in the Borne Quarter, it is considered the premier market in Catalonia and was the first-ever covered food market in the city. This extraordinary-looking market is distinguished by its undulating kaleidoscopic roof that is held up by twisting steel supports that resemble the branches of a tree. Within the market you will find hundreds of stalls and your chef will guide you through the stalls so that you can source and purchase the ingredients for the meal you will soon be preparing. The sights and aromas here are simply tantalizing. Breath in the scent of fresh fruits and vegetables, watch a butcher expertly prepare meat for a customer, and take advantage of any free samples being offered. Your market visit will last approximately 45-minutes and then you will make the short walk to the nearby cooking lab. On arrival at the lab, don your apron and get ready to immerse yourself in this hands-on experience. After being welcomed with an olive oil tasting, considered “liquid gold” and the basic ingredient for the Mediterranean diet, your instruction begins. Following the chef’s guidance, you will prepare an authentic local meal that will include Paella, Spain’s pride and gastronomic symbol. And of course, no meal is complete without desert and you will even have the opportunity to burn your own Catalan cream, a desert very similar to crème brûlée. At the end of the cooking, you will get to indulge in the meal you have just prepared and each participant is invited to try them all as later you will cast your vote for which you liked best. Following this wonderful culinary experience, walk back to the meeting location where you will re-board your transportation and transfer back to the pier. Special Note: This tour includes approximately 3-hours of mild to moderate walking/standing that includes some steps and uneven surfaces. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and is not considered suitable for those with walking difficulties.
