ATTENDANCEStudiesshowthatthereisadirectcorrelationbetweenschoolattendanceandstudentachievement.Therefore,parents/guardiansshouldreinforcetheimportanceofgoodattendanceandstudentsshouldattendschooleverydayexceptincertainunavoidablecircumstancessuchasillnessordeathinthefamily.Pleaseplanmedicalappointmentsduringschoolvacationsorafterschoolwhenpossible.Ifyourchildwillbeabsent,itisimportantthatyoucalltheschoolofficethatday(Seeabsenceprocedurebelow).Weencourageyoutosendyourchildtoschoolforatleastpartofthedaywhenyoufinditnecessarytokeepyourchildhomeforreasonsotherthanillness.Itisimportantthatyourchildnotbecountedabsentandnotmissschoolassignments.Ifforsomeunavoidablereasonyourchildwillbeabsentforaweek(5schooldays)ormore,pleaseseeyourchild’steacheror the attendance office in advance so we may arrange for an Independent StudyAgreement.A child may be declared habitually truant after accumulating three (3) or moreunauthorized absences and/or three (3) ormore tardies. An earlywithdrawal isconsidered a partial day absence. It also disrupts classroom instruction. Pleaseattempt to make all appointments after school hours. • Ifyourchildisabsent,youwillneedtoprovideareasonfortheabsencetotheHealthOfficebeforeyourchildmayreturntocampus.

• IfyourchildhasanysymptomsthatareassociatedwithCOVID19theywillneedtoquarantinefor14daysand/orprovideanegativePCRCOVIDTEST.

• Ifyourchildisquarantined,theywillbegivenanindependentstudycontractwiththeirdailyassignments.

• Ifapositivetestisreported,thecohortcanbeshutdownandquarantinedfor14days.

• PLEASEDONOTSENDYOURCHILDTOSCHOOLIFTHEYARENOTFEELINGWELL!• Pleasesubmitadoctor’snotetothehealthofficeifyourchildhasanypre-existing

TARDIESItisextremelyimportantthatstudentsarriveatschoolontime.Ifyourchildistardy,he/shemustreporttotheschoolattendanceofficeforatardyslip.Students are recognized for perfect attendance on a quarterly and annual basis. Perfectattendance is defined as no absences, no unexcused tardies and no unexcused earlydismissals.IT IS THE PARENTS’/GUARDIANS’ REPONSIBILITY TO VERIFY THEIR CHILD’SATTENDANCE.PLEASECALLTHESCHOOLOFFICEWHENEVERYOURCHILDISABSENTORTARDY.IFYOURCHILDISABSENTFIVECONSECUTIVESUNEXCUSEDDAYSANDWEAREUNABLETOREACHANYONE,HE/SHEWILLBEDROPPEDANDYOUWILLHAVETOREGISTERHIM/HERAGAIN.

COVIDTESTINGCVESDwillcontinuetoprovidetestingservicesatschoolsitesandatthedistrictoffice.Testingwillbeavailableateachschoolsiteonatwo-weekcadencestartingonAugust2,2021.

• TestingstartsatschoolsitesonAugust2nd,onlyforstudentswhoseparents/guardiansprovideconsentthroughtheon-linelinkfortesting.

• Studentswillbebroughttothetestingstationatschoolbytheteacher/aide.Parents/guardianswillnotbebringingstudentstothetestinglocation.

• Itwillbearepeatingtestprocesseverytwoweeks.• BothantigenandPCRtestsareavailable.• AlltestlocationswillbeON-CAMPUS,andnotoutinfrontofthecampus.

• Sendinallabsencenotesandpermissionslipspromptly.• Help your child to be prompt to school, courteous of others and responsible for

his/heractions.• Makesureyoudiscusswithyourchildarrangementsforpickuponrainydays.• Rememberthatpersonaltoys,games,laserpointers,tradingcards,etc.MAYNOTbe

brought to schoolwithout thepriorapprovalof your child’s teacher.Theywill beconfiscatedandhelduntilthelastdayofschooland/orwhenaparentpicksthemup.

• MakeanyspecialplansforthedaywithyourchildBEFOREschool.Wewillnotallowchildrentousetheschoolphonestoaskyourpermissiontogotofriends’houses,etc.Thoseplansneedtobemadewithyoubeforetheschooldaybegins.

• Studentsmaybeaskedtowashtheirhandsorusehandsanitizeruponenteringtheclassroom.

• Studentswillberequired towearmaskswhen indoors inaccordancewithCVESDsafetyandhealthguidelines.

• Studentswillstaywiththesamecohort/swheninclassrooms.• Students may lower their masks or put on their wrists when outside except for

transitioningfromonebuildingtoanother.• Studentsshouldbringtheirownwaterbottlesandlabelthemwiththeirname.The

waterfountainsarenotavailable.• Studentsshouldputonsunscreenbeforecomingtoschool.• Therewillbenoclassroomchangesthefirst3weeksofschool.Anyrequestsfora

classroomchangeafterAugust9,2021,mustbesubmittedinwritingwiththereasonforthechangetotheprincipal.

STUDENTRECOGNITIONWelovetorecognizestudenteffortandachievement.WehavequarterlyAwardsassemblieseachquarter.Thisschoolyear,ourAwardsCommitteeisworkingtoimproveceremonies.

BIRTHDAYSJuarez-LincolnSchooldoesn’tpermitfooditemsforschoolbirthdaycelebrations.ThisdecisionwasmadeafterapresentationonchildhoodnutritionandobesitywassharedtoPTA,ELACandstaff.Weknowthatsugary,highfattreatsdefinedthesecelebrationsintheclassroomandthereforehavebrainstormedalternativewaysforparents/guardianstohelptheirchildrencelebratetheirbirthdays.Somealternativesarelistedbelow.Pleasechoosefromthesealternativesbecausefooditemswillnotbeallowedforbirthdaycelebrations. •Readafavoritebooktoyourchild’sclassroom. •Donateabookinhonorofyourchild. •Donateschoolsuppliestotheclassroom:pencils,highlighters,post-itnotes.

MEDICATIONATSCHOOL

Absolutelynomedicationwillbeallowedinschoolunlessyouhavereturneda"Physician'sRecommendationforMedication"Formcompletedbyyourphysician.ThisformisavailableinourHealthOffice.ItisagainsttheCaliforniaEducationCodeSection49423forstudentstohave or take medication at school, unless it is authorized by doctors’ orders and themedication is administered in theHealthOffice. Donot send coughdrops, cough syrup,aspirins,etc. toschoolwithyourchildwithouta formastheywillnotbeallowedtotakethem.

GETTINGTOANDFROMSCHOOL

PARKINGLOTPROCEDURESStudent safety is a priority at Juarez-Lincoln Elementary School. Parents/guardians areasked to observe the following parking lot procedures that have been developed inconjunctionwiththeSanDiegoPoliceDepartment.

• Neverspeedordriverecklesslyintheschoolparkinglotorloadingzones.Pleasebepatientduringdrop-offanddismissal.Avoidhonkingunlessnecessary.

• Usetheyellowloadingzoneinfrontoftheschoolfordropoffandpickuponly.Donotpickupordropoffstudentsinredzones.

• DONOTPARKANDLEAVEYOURCARINTHEREDORYELLOWZONES.• Donotdouble-park.• Parkinmarkedstallsonlyandwalkyourchildtotheclassroom/campus.• Studentsmaynotbedroppedoffinparkinglotforsafetyreasons.• Whenthelotisfull,parkinthenearbyresidentialareasorcirclebackandtryagain.• Upperlotisforstaffonly.• Pleasepullforwardasfaraspossibleintheyellowzonetopickup/dropoffyourchild.• Studentsnotpickedupduringdismissalby3:00p.m.onregulardaysand1:55p.m.

onminimumdayswillneedtowaitinthemainofficetobepickedup.Studentswillonlybereleasedtoadultsauthorizedtopickthemup.

• Afterbeingdroppedofforwhilewaitingtobepickedup,studentsarenottoleaveandreturnontocampusforreasonsotherthanemergencies.Studentswhoarepickedupmustwaitonschoolgroundstobepickedupbyanauthorizedadult.

• Studentsmustweaprotectivegearandwiththemridingbicyclestoschool.

CHILDNUTRITIONSERVICES

Breakfast is served every day from 7:45 – 8:05 a.m. Our school breakfast program canprovidereliefforyouandyourchildrenwithhecticmorningschedules.Givechildrenaheadstartonsuccessfullearning.Makesuretheybegintheschooldaywithahealthybreakfast.Itisparticularlyimportantthatstudentsparticipatinginthebreakfastprogramarriveontime,sotheyhavesufficienttimetoeatbreakfastbeforegoingtoclass.SchoolmealsareprovidedatnocosttoallJuarez-Lincolnstudents.

DRESSINGFORSAFETY

Inlieuofauniformpolicy,Juarez-Lincolnwillimplementaschool-wide“DressingforSafety”dresscodeinaccordancewiththeChulaVistaElementarySchoolBoardPolicy5132.Juarez-Lincolnhasdevelopedthefollowing“DressingforSafety”policy:

• Anyattirethatmaydistractfromlearningorcompromisesafetyshouldnotbewornatschool.

• ClothingshouldallowstudentstomovecomfortablyandparticipateinP.E.andotherschoolactivitieswithoutcompromisingmodesty.(Spaghettistraporofftheshouldertopsand“sagging”pantsarenotappropriate.)

• Clothingthatistoolarge,lowcut,short,orrevealsmidriffsorundergarmentsarenotappropriateatschool.

• Closed-toedshoeswithbacksarealwaysrequired.Nohighheels.Shoelacesmustbetiedsecurelysothatshoesstayonfeet.“Heelys”(shoeswithwheels)arenotallowedatschool.

• Clothingoraccessoriesprintedwithinappropriatelanguage,negativeorsuggestivemessagesoradvertisingdrugs,alcohol,tobacco,weapons,orothermaterialthatmaybeoffensiveordistractlearningmaynotbeworn.

• Make-upisnotappropriateinelementaryschool.Studentsshouldnotweardanglingjewelrythatcouldgetcaught,brokenorcauseinjuryduringP.E.orrecess.

• StudentsmaywearhatsoutdoorsduringrecessorP.E.forprotectionfromthesunandshouldberemovedindoors.

PRESERVATIONOFLEARNINGTIME

Tomaximizelearningtimetheofficestaffwillstrictlylimitcallstotheclassrooms.Youcanhelpuswiththisgoalby leavingmessagesforyourchildor itemsyouneedyourchildtoreceiveintheschooloffice.Thesewillbedeliveredatatimewheninstructionalcontinuitywillnotbeinterrupted.

PARENTINVOLVEMENT

Parents/guardiansmayparticipateinourPTA,SSC,ELAC,andCoffeewiththePrincipalorvolunteer. There are monthly Coffee with the Principal, PTA, and SSC meetings. Thesemeetingsprovide anopportunity to share school information and receive feedback fromparents/guardians.Weencourageyoutoattendasmanyoftheparentmeetingsaspossible.Meetingswillvaryfromin-personandvirtualsettingstohelpYourhelpandfeedbackisalwaysneededandappreciated.CommitteeInformation:

• SSC – Develops and monitors the School Plan for Student Achievement and theBudget.

• ELAC – The English Learner Advisory Council provides oversight for support ofEnglishLearners.

• PTA – The Parent Teacher Association provides extracurricular programs andsupportforstudentsandtheirfamilies.

VISITOR/VOLUNTEERINFORMATION

• Parents/guardiansmayjointheirchildinthecafeteriaforbreakfastandmustwearamaskwhileindoors.Masksarenotrequiredoutdoorsatthistime.

• Limitedvisitorsandvolunteerswillbeallowedoncampusatthistime.Visitorsarenot permitted in classrooms, on the playground or lunch areaswhile school is insessionatthistime.

• Due to safety and health regulations, parent/guardian visits to their children’sclassroomswillbe limitedbutmaybe scheduled for compelling reasonsandwithprincipal approval. Principal or administrative designee will accompanyparent/guardiansforanobservationperiodnolongerthan15minutes.Pleasecalltoscheduleavisitaheadoftimeandcheckinattheofficetopickupabadgebeforegoingtoaclassroom.

• VolunteersmaybeginvolunteeringoncampustheweekofAugust9withprincipal’sauthorization.

• Volunteersmustprovideproofofvaccination,TBtest,andmustfollowsamemaskguidelinesasstaff.

• VisitorsandvolunteersmustcheckinatthefrontofficethroughtheRaptorSystemandwearabadgewhileoncampusduringtheschoolday.

• Parents/guardiansmust follow school rules and be alwaysmodels of appropriatebehaviorforstudentswhileoncampus.Parents/guardianswhodisruptlearningandschooloperationsmaynotbeallowedoncampus.

DISCIPLINEPOLICY

ThestudentsandstaffatJuarez-LincolnElementarySchoolbelievethatasafeandpositiveschoolenvironmentisimportanttobothachild’slearningintheclassroomandtohis/hergrowthasacitizen.WetakeaproactiveapproachutilizingPositiveBehavioralInterventionsandSupportstoresolvedisciplineissuesthroughrestorativepractices.Toprovidesuchanenvironmentforourstudentswehaveestablishedthesebehavioralguidelines: BeRespectful BeSafe BeResponsibleTheremaybeinstancesinwhichsomestudentshavedifficultyfollowingthebehaviorstandards.Inthesecases,thefollowingprocedureswillbefollowed: Step1 Theteacherorstaffmemberwillcounselthestudent. Step2 Iftheproblemcontinues,theteacherorstaffmemberwillcontactand theparenttoresolvetheproblem.Ifpossible,thecontact willbeintheformofaconference.

Step3 Shouldtheaboveactionsfailtosolvetheproblem,theschoolpsychologistorKIDCOSpecialistwillbecontactedandifavailable,willsupportthechild.

EMERGENCYFAMILYREUNIONPROCEDURESIncaseofanemergencyornaturaldisastersuchasanearthquake,youneedtobeawareofourschool’splanforreleasingyourchild.Ourconcernisforthesafeandorderlydismissalofourstudents.Ifasmanyas500parents/guardiansarriveatourschoolatapproximatelythesametimetopickupstudents,yourcooperationandpatienceisessentialtoourplan.Parkingwillbeverylimited,sobepreparedtoparkablockortwofromtheschool.DONOTDOUBLEPARKinfrontoftheschoolorintheparkinglotsasitmayinterferewithgettingemergencyvehiclesintoourschoolsite.Forthesafetyofyourchild,beforeallowingyoutotakehim/herhome,wemustdocumenttowhomeachchildisreleased.Whenyouarriveatschool,cometotheentrancebytheofficeatour“Check-inArea”andpleasedothefollowing:

Fieldtripsareplannedasextensionsofclassactivities.Duetochanginghealthandsafetyguidelines,protocolsforfieldtripsmaychangeatanytime.Insomecases,thenumbersofchaperonesallowedmaybelimited.Placeswillbegiventoparents/guardianswhohavenothadanopportunitytochaperoneonpreviousfieldtrips.CHAPERONESMAYNOTBRINGOTHERCHILDRENONTHEFIELDTRIP. All students going on the field trip, includingchaperones,willridethebustoandfromthefieldtrip.

As a STUDENT I agree to:

Complete homework and read at least 20 minutes daily. Come to school every day ready to learn and work hard. Bring necessary materials and completed homework to school daily.
