Important Notice

Which Payment Is Yours?

(or, ‘Who do we think you are?’)

Carefully ensure any subscription or excursion payment made by you or on your behalf clearly shows your membership’s first and last names correctly.

Through 2019, it was difficult or impossible to reconcile bank statements with membership records for over 5% of payments. This was a surprisingly greater rate than usual, causing much – often unsuccessful – time-wasting on the part of our Treasurer and Membership volunteers.

In 2020, if we can’t readily identify your payment in the next bank statement after your first course application or new membership application, regretfully we will need to contact you to provide details of the payment transaction and this may delay your enrolment in your chosen courses.

Please see Payment Options on page 6 for details on how you can make sure that we will be able to identify your payment.

Important Dates

➢ Submit your course applications to reach us by Monday 13 January if possible. This will ensure that:

Your application is included in a ballot if any of your selected courses or excursions are oversubscribed.

You keep your place in a course continuing from 2019 in which you were enrolled. Your place is guaranteed until the date the ballot is run.

If enrolling by post, add a Priority label to speed up delivery.

➢ Enrolments formally close on Monday 20 January. This is a firm closing date for inclusion in the sessions which begin at the start of Term 1. See below for details on how to enrol.

➢ Your membership subscription of $60 is due at the time you apply.

Ensure your full name is clearly written in the description field of a bank transfer, or on the

cheque, to ensure we identify your application with the payment.

➢ Detailed confirmation letters/emails are expected to be sent on Thursday 23 January.

➢ A freeze applies to processing any late applications or changes received between Wednesday 29 January and Friday 7 February inclusive. Late enrolments reopen on 8 February.

Please Read the Following ’How to Enrol’ Information

Existing Members

1 The easiest way to apply for courses is with the fully secure online Course Application form.

To apply online, we must have your personal membership details up to date. If any change is needed, the fully secure online Membership Contact Update form is very quick and easy and must be completed before the Course Application form.

➢ See also clickable Website Links on the next page.

➢ If you do not have a computer or do not have an email address, you can still apply online on a friend’s computer or at your local library branch. Simply go to our website at lakemacquarie.u3anet.org.au, click on Membership and Enrolment from the menu at the top, and use the links and instructions on that page.

➢ The slow way to enrol is by post, using the hard-copy Membership and Course Application form enclosed with the program if we do not have your email address.

The postal application form is not available by email nor is it downloadable as we want you to use the online forms. The form is available at Toronto or Speers Point Library upon request at the desk during the enrolment period if you still prefer to fill it in and mail it to us as follows:

Enrolment Officer Lake Macquarie U3A PO Box 864 WARNERS BAY NSW 2282

This is the ONLY ADDRESS to which to send postal forms or cheques.

We recommend you send this application by Priority mail to reduce delivery delays. However, we strongly recommend you use the very easy online form.

Scanned copies of the postal application form are NOT accepted if sent by email.

➢ Admission to any course or excursion is conditional upon payment of the $60 membership for 2020.

Enrolling In Courses Please do NOT enrol for multiple courses which may overlap, which might not leave enough time to get from

one venue to the next or where you then decide you have enrolled in too much and will be too busy to attend.

For many courses we have waiting lists and this is unfair to others wanting to take part.

Withdrawing From Courses We also need to know if you have enrolled but will no longer be attending:

➢ If you decide to withdraw from any course, talk or excursion for any reason, please let your course clerk

know.

➢ Alternatively, fill in a ‘Withdraw’ submission on the Course Application form.

➢ If you do not attend for three sessions and have not advised your course clerk that you will be absent

(for example, if you are going on holiday), you will be withdrawn from the course so that someone on

the waiting list can take your place.

➢ If you decide to withdraw prior to the course starting or need to find out who your Course Clerk is and

do not have access to email, please call the General Enquiries line on 0490 367 591.

Wednesday Talks If you know you would like to attend a particular talk, please make sure you enrol. Failure to do so can

sometimes mean that, because of low enrolments, the talk may be cancelled. As a reminder email is sent one

week prior to each talk, if you then find that you are unable to attend simply reply to that email or email

[email protected]. However, if you later decide there is a talk which interests you, you are

welcome to attend - simply add your name to the roll.

No Email? No Problem If you are unable to attend a Wednesday talk and do not have access to email, call the General Enquiries line

on 0490 367 591, Monday to Friday, 9.00 am to 5.00 pm only.
