Principals Report
Year 12 Captains 2019 - 2020
It was impressive to students who were nominated for
school captain positions, presenting their speeches to
the school. Each spoke with conviction, passion and a
desire to see our school improve. I congratulate all of
them for thir leadership capabilities on show during
their speeches, but also in the school.
I welcome these students as the elected leaders for
2019-2020:
Captains: Jake O’Rafferty and Jasmine Phillips
Vice-Captains: Eilee Philipse and Sunny Zhao
SRC: Lili-Mae Landrigan, Kiara Longmore and Hamish
Wishart.
These leaders have already begun their impact on the
school, with discussions and planning for the
refurbishment of the Year 12 room, improvements to
the student toilets and how they can support junior
students in their learning. The captains induction will
take place on Wednesday 25 September at the Year 12
Graduation Assembly.
Tell Them From Me
We will again participate in the Tell Them From Me
school survey, allowing students, parents and teachers
their input about Junee HS. Students will be allocated
time during class in the next 2 months to complete this
survey, as a follow up from the Term 1 and previous
year’s surveys.
More information about the survey is available at:
http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au.
To access the survey for our school go to:

School Ball
I understand the School Ball is a major event in the
Junee calendar, with many students already picking out
their outfits and practicing their dances. Decorations
have been planned and the P&C have agreed to again
manage supper.
Just a reminder that entry to the School Ball is still
conditional upon student’s behaviour, completion of
work, attendance and uniform. There is still the risk that
a student may not be allowed to attend the School Ball,
due to misbehaviour, not enough attendance at school,
not regularly being in school uniform or compulsory
elective subject fees not being paid. If you are
concerned that your child may be excluded or have
questions about the School Ball, please make an
appointment to speak to me.
2020 Curriculum, Classes and Empower
We have been surveying staff, students and parents
about 2020 curriculum, classes and Empower. Thank you
to everyone who was able to provide feedback. In 2020,
we will have:
Two Year 7 classes for the majority of subjects
and three mixed classes for Technology and Art
Two Year 8 classes for the majority of subjects
and three mixed classes for Technology and Art
Four Stage 5 classes, with one Empower class
students can apply for. 12 elective classes.
Year 11: 18 classes available, including
advanced English and Maths. Students and their
parents may discuss with me the possibility of
distance education courses
Special Interest Period will continue, with staff
and students canvassed for their ideas and how
to best use this time to help students with their
passions and interests.
Year 11 Life Ready Course
Year 11 recently participated in part of their Life Ready
course with a local educator, Kristy Wallace. Kristy has
used her capability as a teacher and life experiences to
present the “Inspired Youth” workshop.
Modules included:
1. Wheel of life- where are you spending time
and what are your priorities
2. Self management- know your saboteurs
3. Gratitude
4. What’s really going on in your head-
reframing to a positive mindset
5. Positive wellbeing- exercise, nutrition, sleep
and meditation
6. Crucial conversations- how to discuss
challenging issues
They further developed their skills through a variety
of games, reflective activities, physical movement
and role-plays. The feedback was positive and now
useful for further conversations about the workshop
with family members.

Reroc Youth Leadership Conference
On Wednesday 28 August four students from Year 11,
Eilee, Sunny, Belle and Nicole, attended the REROC
Youth Leadership Forum at Charles Sturt University.
Multiple schools from across the region participated in
the day which was comprised of three sessions which
each featured a different speaker and workshop. Ethan
Buston a young scientist and inventor dazzled the
students with his brilliant ideas and prototypes in the
first session. Our students enjoyed working on the Spiro
and App workshop where they design a robot to fight
in the arena. Eilee was great at driving the little robot
and bought our team to victory on several attempts
knocking down opponents in the ring. The second
workshop saw students engage with Mindful Warrior
Anna Gannon for some self-awareness and meditation.
Speaker number three was Tayla Martin from Nyngan
who is a world renowned photographer and artist. She
inspired students with her notion that even though you
are from a little place, you can still do big things. The
last workshop was a Digital Media experience where
students got to work with a television professional to
learn about presenting yourself on camera and
projecting a positive image. The whole day was
engaging and informative. Our students gained some
valuable insights and skills.
