Compensation survey data helps ensure that you have a factual basis for some of your most important people-related decisions. McLagan’s surveys are a cornerstone of that decision-making process.

This catalogue provides detailed information about McLagan’s survey coverage and, along with other supporting information and advice from your local consultants, is intended to help you with survey job matching and data submission.

McLagan surveys include:

• Robust, sector-specific coverage.

• New functions and specializations that reflect our commitment to provide you with detailed, granular results and insights in a changing business and technology environment.

• Globally consistent structure, facilitating cross-country analysis.

• Common leveling framework, allowing for cross-functional and cross-industry analysis.

The survey design is intended to:

• Make the job matching process easier for you.

• Provide you with richer data that enables more robust analysis.

This Job Catalogue outlines the coding methodology for aligning your jobs to McLagan’s survey positions. As you review this catalogue and match your employees please note that:

• Our survey job titles are normalized / genericized and may not exactly match your firm’s position titles.

• You should provide data for all employees whose job content reasonably matches the survey’s benchmark jobs.

We are available to help you throughout the job matching and data submission process. That’s our job.

McLagan Compensation Surveys

Our global compensation survey program has been built from over 50 years of partnering with our clients. We collect the most accurate and comprehensive data across the financial services, financial technology, and consulting industries.

Level DefinitionsLeadership

Executive Levels• Leadership roles are reserved for a Global Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in a global organization or

top executive and 1st and 2nd level direct reports to the Global CEO.

• Leadership roles are for individuals who lead major business and functional areas. Individuals do not, however, have to be a formal part of an officially designated leadership team.

• The subsequent pages outline a set of criteria that frame whether the Global CEO should be matched to Level 14, Level 13, or Level 12. The goal is to create a like for like comparison and pin the top of the organization to facilitate the cascade down through levels. In most instances, a customized approach for executives is the most appropriate route for benchmarking. Contact your RM to discuss your firm’s requirements.

- For a CEO to be matched to Level 14, the firm must meet all of the first 4 criteria (Annual Revenues, Geographic Breadth, Headcount, and Total Assets).

- Levels 14 and 13 are reserved for the Global Chief Executive Officer at the most complex organizations. The span of control, expertise, and breadth of responsibility for these CEOs is unrivaled and differentiated from other CEOs within financial services.

- All other CEOs are matched to level 12.

• Other executive levels are determined by a cascade down from the CEO based on the scope of role and degree of impact.

- First level direct reports typically include other c-suite jobs (e.g., Head of Markets and Banking, Head of Asset Management, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer).

- Second level direct reports typically include business line heads (e.g., Divisional CFO, Head of Investment Banking).

- Not all direct reports need to be matched to the same level. Organizational differences vary.
