Dr. Mike Hutjens was raised on a 70 cow dairy

farm near Green Bay, Wisconsin. He earned his B.S., M.S. and doctorate degree at the University

of Wisconsin Madison. From 1971 to 1979,Dr. Hutjens was the Extension Dairy Specialist at the

University of Minnesota. Since 1979, Mike has

been a member of the University of Illinois Dairy

and Animal Sciences Departments as the Exten-sion Dairy Specialist, retiring in 2010. He speaks

at numerous meetings throughout the U.S. and has presented in 17 different countries. Hutjens writes feed columns for Hoard's Dairyman, Dairy Today, Wisconsin Agri-View, and Dairy Herd Manage-

ment. Mike has garnered numerous dairy industry honors including being named the Industry Person of the Year by World Dairy Expo, the ADSA Award of Honor, and the National DHI Service Award in 2013.

Dr. Paul Fricke grew up on a crop and dairy farm in Nebraska. He currently serves as the UW-Extension Specialist for Dairy Reproduction. Paul received his B.S. degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and his M.S. and a Ph.D. degrees in Re-productive Physiology at North Dakota State. Dr. Fricke’s research focuses on improving the reproductive efficiency of dairy cat-tle. He has presented at conferences in 34 states, 6 Canadian provinces, and 23 countries. Dr. Fricke has received the Midwest Section ADSA Out-standing Young Extension Specialist Award, the UW-Madison College of Agricultural & Life Sciences Pound Extension Award, the ADSA DeLaval Dairy Extension Award honoring the top dairy specialist in the United States, and the Wisconsin Association of County Agriculture Agents Second Mile Award in recognition of work with county agents in Wis-

11:00 - Noon “Strategies On Your Feed Situation” The 2019 growing season has presented challenges for Midwest dairy farmers. The presentation will discuss feed inventory status, alternative choices if feed resources are limiting on your farm, and decisions to make in January.

12:45 - 1:45 “Barriers to High Fertility in Lactating Dairy Cows ” Dr. Fricke will discuss fertility programs for lactating dairy cows as well as other factors that can affect fertility including BCS change during the periparturient period, mastitis, and heat stress.

1:45 - 2:45 “Feed Additives for 2020” Mycotoxin binders may be needed on dairy farms due to the 2019 growing season. Guidelines on the types of products, levels in feed being fed, and signs of risks will be discussed. Other feed additives will be updated based on expected results, research data, and on-farm responses. Bring your questions and concerns.
