PURPOSEWe know that a large majority of individuals with a dementia diagnosis have Alzheimer’s Disease. However, there are other causes of dementia. With the increased ability of the medical community to more specifically complete a differential diagnosis, care professionals are seeing more and more clients with a diagnosis of Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and Lewy Body Dementia (LBD). These dementia disorders affect the brain differentlyfrom each other and differently than Alzheimer’s disease. This session will provide important and timely information about FTD and LBD to help you understand how they may affect your clients and impact the services you provide.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES• Describe Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD)

and Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) including the causes and stages of each type.

• Become familiar with issues people with FTD and LBD may experience that can impact the service your organization provides to people with dementia.

• Identify key local and national resources that will help you and your staff improve their work with people who have different types of dementia.

About the Dementia Care Certificate ProgramAs the number of older adults with dementia needing care increases, so does the need for well-trained caregivers who understand the unique aspects of their disease and have the skills and knowledge to respond to their needs.

This educational series is designed to improve the quality of care given to persons with dementia. It consists of three different modules – two webinars and two, six-hour workshops and is available for participation in individual topics of interest. To earn the certificate of completion, individuals must participate in all four modules. The certificate is a voluntary credential demonstrating professional study of a particular topic area. It does not denote certification or that someone is certified in dementia care.
