If you visited Spring Fair 2020, you may recall that Tikiri Toys won the Gift Association ‘Ethical Toy of the Year’. Tikiri – which means ‘teeny tiny’ in the native language of Sinhala – is based in Sri Lanka. By sourcing and producing all their toys locally, Tikiri greatly minimise both their carbon footprint and their impact on the environment. Not only this, but the factory has a fantastic reputation for looking after the welfare of their employees, holding both BSCI* and SMETA* certification, and demonstrating their commitment to the 10 principles of fair trade.

This collection of toys uniquely combines texture, touch and personality, to help introduce babies and toddlers to the wonders of the world around them. Handcrafted from eco-friendly and sustainable natural materials, they are the natural choice for every child’s formative years. These toys are made to the highest standards of production and quality. Made from 100% natural rubber from the latex of the Hevea tree and ethically sourced organic cotton*, the range offers toys suitable from birth to 3 years. Tikiri toys can already be found around the globe, giving comfort to babies and toddlers from the four corners of the world.

Recognising the desire for sustainable toys, produced by ethically and socially responsible manufacturers, we are proud to have been chosen to represent the brand in the United Kingdom. Inside Out Toys Ltd is a family owned and run business, originally established in 2012. We launched jumini, our own brand of wooden toys, in 2016 and since then we have also added the Studio Circus collection, designed in the Netherlands and have been actively looking for other brands of environmentally friendly toys to add to our repertoire.

SEDEX Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA) is one of the most widely used ethical audit formats in the world. What is SMETA? SMETA is an audit methodology, providing a compilation of best practice ethical audit techniques. It is designed to help auditors conduct high quality audits that encompass all aspects of responsible business practice, covering SEDEX’s four pillars of Labour, Health and Safety, Environment and Business Ethics.

The Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) is a business-driven initiative for companies committed to improving working conditions in their international supply chains. BSCI unites hundreds of companies around one common Code of Conduct and supports them in their efforts towards building an ethical supply chain by providing them with a development-oriented system, applicable to all sectors and all sourcing countries.

The Organic Content Standard (OCS) applies to any non-food product containing 95-100 percent organic material. It relies on third-party verification of the presence and amount of organic material in a final product and tracks the flow of the raw material from its source to the final product. It can be used as a business-to-business tool to give companies the means to ensure they are selling quality and getting what they pay for.
