Before opening a bag of seed, be sure to read, understand and accept the stewardship requirements, including applicable refuge requirements for insect resistance management, for the biotechnology traits expressed in the seed as set forth in the technology agreement that you sign. By opening and using a bag of seed, you are reaffirming your obligation to comply with the most recent stewardship requirements.

Important: Always read and follow label and bag tag instructions; only those labeled as tolerant to glufosinate may be sprayed with glufosinate ammonium based herbicides.

Seed products with the LibertyLink® (LL) trait are resistant to the herbicide glufosinate ammonium, an alternative to glyphosate in corn, and combine high-yielding genetics with the powerful, nonselective, postemergent weed control of Liberty® herbicide for optimum yield and excellent weed control. GREAT THINGS TO KNOW

1. University of Illinois agronomists have said that Potassium and Sulfur are 2 elements that most often limit grain production. 1 gallon of SPUNK per acre will provide both nutrients to the plant.

2. Prevent crusting on heavy soils by using 1,000 to 2,000 pounds of Gypsum per acre. Prepare the seed bed in the fall and have the gypsum applied over the top. Let the gypsum work on the soil surface through the winter and plant in the stale seedbed in the spring. Do not incorporate the gypsum.

3. Glyphosate will move through the soil profile with the first rain after the herbicide application. If you make a burndown application of glyphosate then plant your crop, the glyphosate will move and can cause trouble (disease) after the first good rain. Only plant after the first rain following glyphosate application.

4. Excluding the plant’s tap root, most roots will only grow for 72 hours then stop. In order for the root system to continue to grow it must keep branching. Using Rouse will increase the elongation of the root while it is growing.

5. Carbon is the yield limiting element as corn yields exceed 250 bushels per acre. A biologically active soil is able to generate and release carbon dioxide into the canopy to serve as a carbon source for the plant. Sugar is also a great source of carbon.

6. When a fungicide is applied to a crop it puts the plant in a suspended state until the plant is able to metabolize the chemical. The plant will then resume its growth after the fungicide level drops in the plant. This can result in delayed maturity for the crop. Prudent Presto will not delay the maturity of the crop.

7. One pound of a nutrient that is applied to the leaf is as effective as 20 pounds of that same nutrient applied through the soil. Prudent Presto, Power Mist, HighPod, and Spunk are all very efficient ways to feed your crop.

8. NutriSmart® contains organisms that will release Potash and Phosphorus from air and make it available to the plant. NutriSmart® has been shown to consume glyphosate that is attached to the soil particle. You can replace up to 40% of your P and K dry fertilizer with a like amount of NutriSmart® and not suffer any yield reduction. As little as 25# per acre is enough to help reduce the glyphosate level in the soil.

9. Soil fertility is all about the ratio of nutrients to each other. A small amount of several nutrients is much more effective that a large amount of one nutrient like zinc for example. That is why Presto Gold has .21% B, .11% Cu, .21% Fe, .21% MN, and .07% Cu.

10. A 2-inch rain event in Iowa during the summer spray season contains the equivalent of 16 oz. of glyphosate per acre. We saw the same results in Ohio during July in the 2015, 2016, and 2017 growing seasons.

11. There are organisms in the soil capable of digesting the glyphosate that is “parked” on the clay particles in the soil. These organisms are not always beneficial to our crops. The more glyphosate you use the more prevalent the pathogenic organisms can become. NutriSmart® is the best way to stop this buildup.

12. If you use more than 1 application of Glyphosate per year you increase your chance encountering SDS in your soybeans. If you use 2 or more applications or more than a label rate of glyphosate your chance of getting SDS in your soybeans increases dramatically. The SDS fungus can use glyphosate as a food source.

13. Just because a nutrient shows up on a soil test does not mean that the plant will have access to it or will be able to use it to make grain. The only way to be sure that the crop has access to the nutrient is to test the grain. If you would like to evaluate your grain contact Wellman Seeds or AGRA Warehouse and we will test the grain and provide recommendations for increasing yields.

14. If you have purple corn in the spring the problem can be easily fixed. Apply one gallon of Prudent Presto to the corn and the purple will be gone in a couple of days. In stress years purple corn does not yield. Fix it fast with PRESTO.

15. Whenever you spray a growing crop always include Boron and 1 to 2 pounds of sugar per acre. Sugar feeds your beneficial bacteria so they can feed your crop.

16. ARGOSY is a biofilm that will cover the entire leaf and hold crop protection products in place. When the dew re-wets the leaf at night, some of the crop protection product is released into the plant. This works great with fungicides and herbicides. Many farmers use 8 ounces of Argosy per acre to help control glyphosate resistant mares tail under 4 inches in height. 12 inch-tall-mares tails will require up to 32 ounces per acre. This will not kill the weed, but it will usually prevent the weed from getting any taller and stop seed production.

17. The largest percentage of yield on a soybean plant comes from Nodes 7 to 11. To maximize yield, try to keep your plants as stress free as possible when these nodes are developing and filling. PODMAX is designed to significantly increase the number of pods on a soybean plant. It is applied after the plants are in full bloom.

PRODUCT CROP RATE REASON FOR USE:

CORN AND SOYBEANS GROWTH STAGE R1-R3

SPUNK 0-0-9.75 6.75% S

All 1 gal.Helps relieve weather stress. Can be used as a stand alone product or mixed with Prudent® Presto, Nutrol®, or High Pod. Use when silks are out on corn and when soybean plants are loaded with flowers.

HighPod 18-1-0 1% S All 3 gal.Gives corn Nitrogen when it's most needed. Provides soybeans with N. This puts the nodules on the roots on vacation and allows the plant to use its energy to fill pods instead of making Nitrogen.

AFTER HARVEST

NutriSmart® All 50 to 100 lbs. per acre

Replace 25% to 30% of granular fertilizer with the same number of pounds of NutriSmart®. This product contains 6 microbes that will make nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and micro nutrients available to the plant while it cleanses the soil from a buildup of crop protection products. Every pound of Nutrismart® will make 1 pound of nitrogen for the crop. Apply from harvest through early spring if No-till, or incorporate prior to planting.
