productions with performances by amazing local actors but we also saw tremendous

attendance growth and support from our community. We look forward to expanding upon

that success in our 2019 season!

Speaking of…get out your passport, this season we are traveling abroad! We begin our

travels to the Greek isles in July with the joyous MAMMA MIA! in only four performances at

the Paul Shaghoian Concert Hall. Next up, we head to the glittering beaches of St. Tropez in

August for the Fresno premiere of Jerry Herman’s LA CAGE AUX FOLLES in the Dan

Pessano Theatre. Our season closes in London with a tribute to William Shakespeare in

Lauren Gunderson’s cleverly funny and poignant play THE BOOK OF WILL.

As you know, the community’s support means that we can continue providing exceptional

theatre for the Central Valley. Did you know an average production costs roughly $60,000 to

produce with royalties, costumes and theatre rental as well as many additional expenses?

Our aim is to keep prices low so that many can have the opportunity to attend.

To continue to produce the quality theatre our community deserves, we are asking for your

support. On the following pages we have outlined numerous ways you can help our efforts.

Options range from sponsoring the entire season or a particular production. The support

packages detail all of the ways you can support StageWorks Fresno this season!

We understand that you get numerous requests for support and we thank you in advance for

taking the time to consider ours. Your sponsorship is fully tax-deductible and will continue to help bring amazing theater to the Central Valley.

2019 SEASON

Since it’s inception in October 2010,

StageWorks Fresno (SWF) has

developed into one of the Valley’s

premiere theatre companies.

StageWorks Fresno is committed to

introducing the area to the boldest, newest,

and most imaginative plays and musicals

in theater today. Additionally, StageWorks

aims to create unprecedented opportunities

for developing community talent in all

aspects of the art form, because we believe

that a theater is only as strong as the

company it keeps — both onstage and off.

Since October 2010, the average audience size for StageWorks Fresno’s productions has more than doubled.

StageWorks Fresno’s Season Subscriber base has more than tripled in the last four years.

Over half of StageWorks Fresno’s productions have been Fresno Premieres!

Each season over 200 posters and 5,000 postcards are distributed in the Fresno/Clovis area at various locations.

Plus Social Media engagement through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

WHY DONATE? Your investment in the future of StageWorks Fresno means we can continue to offer local theatregoers the type of bold, thought-provoking theatre they have come to expect from our high caliber productions. We pride ourselves on pushing boundaries — introducing new and challenging plays and musicals to our audiences.

Royalties, costumes, sets, lighting, venue rental, actor stipends, and musicians are a few of the expenses that go into producing a show — additionally administrative costs, scenery storage, and marketing are continual monthly expenses. Season subscribers and box office sales help defray these costs. But, at the same time, StageWorks consciously works to keep our ticket prices affordable.

The StageWorks Fresno Board and Staff seek sponsorships and grants to augment these expenses. By partnering with local businesses and individuals, we can endeavor to achieve our mission to entertain, educate, and enrich our community.

StageWorks Fresno’s mission is to entertain, educate, and enrich the community by providing professional theatrical experiences for performers and audiences alike.

PRODUCTIONHISTORY

2019 SEASONMAMMA MIA!Music and Lyrics by Björn Ulvaeus & Benny AnderssonBook by Catherine JohnsonJULY 12, 13, & 14 THE PAUL SHAGHOIAN CONCERT HALL

A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads. On the eve of her wedding, Sophie has secretly invited three men from her mother Donna’s past back to the Greek island paradise they last visited 20 years ago, in a quest to discover the identity of her father. Donna’s long-time friends from her past girl-group “Donna and the Dynamos” also arrive for the wedding to catch up and reminisce. As past and present collide under Mediterranean breezes, the energy and charm of ABBA’s songs propel this enchanting tale with love, laughter and friendship, and a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget! This lavish production will come to life on the stage of the Paul Shaghoian Concert Hall in a limited 4-performance engagement!

LA CAGE AUX FOLLESMusic and Lyrics by by Jerry Herman Book by Harvey FiersteinBased on the play by Jean PoiretJULY 26–AUGUST 11 THE DAN PESSANO THEATER

The beloved gender-bending musical comedy and winner of six Tony Awards® including Best Musical bursts on to the StageWorks Fresno stage in this Fresno Premiere! The twenty year relationship between Georges, a club-owner, and Albin, the head drag performer, faces a test when their son announces his engagement to the daughter of ultra-conservative political parents. To please their son, Georges and Albin agree to hide their lifestyle and play it straight for a dinner with the potential in-laws. However, Albin‘s different definition of normal threatens to upend the entire supper with hilarious results. With an iconic score by Jerry Herman (Hello, Dolly!, Mame) featuring “I Am What I Am” and “The Best of Times” and hilarious book by Harvey Fierstein (Newsies, Kinky Boots), La Cage Aux Folles is a fabulously fun musical about family, identity and loving who you are.

THE BOOK OF WILLBy Lauren Gunderson SEPTEMBER 6–22 THE FRESNO ART MUSEUM BONNER AUDITORIUM

1619–1623. London and Stratford-upon-Avon, England. Will Shakespeare is dead, and his legacy depends on a circle of devoted writers, actors, and friends. When a fishy Hamlet plays fast and loose nearby, the cohorts scramble to keep the Bard’s true words from fading into obscurity. The solution? A definitive collection of his plays. But to print it, they must overcome a ruthless publisher, an inebriated poet, and their own ticking mortality. Playwright Lauren Gunderson unfurls her trademark humor and smarts in this love letter to theatre’s timeless superstar.
