OVERVIE WPatients who have undergone amputation or were born with a limb deficiency experience a unique lifelong journey of managing mobility, prosthetics, skin issues, pain and adjustment. The inaugural Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital Limb Loss Conference will provide evidence-based knowledge and experience on these topics presented by Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital experts who represent the continuum of care, from outpatient to inpatient. Presentations will include in-depth information for inpatient care management, prosthetic care management across the continuum, gait deviations and how they relate to patient and prosthetic issues, management of both residual limb and phantom limb pain, balance training and medical management of skin issues.

TARGET AUDIENCE Physicians, residents/students, orthotists, prosthetists, nurses/nurse practitioners/students, physician assistants/students, occupational/physical/recreational therapists/students, psychologists, social workers, exercise physiologists, rehabilitation program administrators, rehabilitation specialists, case managers, claims specialists and other professionals involved in the care of a patient with limb loss.

OUTCOMESLearners who attend this conference will be able to identify and discuss management strategies for residual limb and phantom limb pain, and skin issues. They will gain a thorough understanding of inpatient care management and prosthetic care management across the continuum. Attendees will be able to identify prosthetic components for patients with lower-extremity amputation and prosthetic causes of pain. They will be able to explain gait deviations and how they relate to patient and prosthetic issues.
