KCSSA DEDICATION

Rick Boles, a 3rd generaon farmer and rancher, grew up farming with his dad and brothers inWinters, Texas. He was a member of Winters FFA, the naon’s first FFA program. Aer highschool, Rick aended and graduated from Tarleton State University and began teaching AgScience first in Holcomb, Kansas, and then in Whitney, Texas. His passion for ag mechanicsgrew out of his experience in these exceponal programs.

In 1980, Rick and his familymoved to theHill Country to help care for the family ranch. He andhis wife, LaVerne, a Kerr County nave, became charter faculty members at Ingram TomMoore High School. He advised and taught Agriculture Science for 17 years as a solo Agteacher, training leadership teams and judging teams. In the early years, Mr. Boles advisedlivestock, dairy, and poultry teams, earning numerous local, district, and state awards andachievements at judging contests all over Texas. In 1984, Mr. Boles also helped found theWest Kerr County Stock Show.

Rick’s greatest passion has always been preparing students for the world of work. He investsin his students by coaching and advising them in Ag Mechanics team compeons. He leadteams in building projects like gooseneck and tongue-pull ulity trailers, gates, grill guards, shop tables, and truck receiver baskets. His teams competed in the San Angelo, San Antonioand Houston Shows. His AgMechanics teams’ greatest success was winning the SweepstakesAward at the San Angelo Ag Mechanics Show in 2003. That team developed two prototypemetal projects that year.

Aer his rerement from teaching Ag for 31 years, Rick sold trailers at Back 40 Supply inKerrville. In 2010,with the encouragement of owner Charlie Bierschwale, Rick started the firstAgMechanics contest at the Hill Country District Junior Livestock Show. The Show has grownfrom 15 project entries to over 100 entries in just 10 years. Rick connues to serve asfundraising chairman. Rick has also been a member of the HCDJLS board member for morethan 40 years. Ag Mechanics compeons remain a passion of Rick’s-judging in San Angelo,Houston, and county shows around the state.

Most important of all to Rick is Jesus Christ, serving Him as a Youth teacher for more than 30years at Trinity Bapst Church and 16 years of Texas BapstMen ChainsawDisaster Relief. Heis also a devoted family man, married to LaVerne for 53 years, a Proud Dad to a daughter andtwin sons and a grandfather of 9 grandchildren. He is a dedicated Army Veteran of Viet Namand receiving the Bronze Star.

(Continued)

As a condition for participation in the KCSSA every exhibitor must agree to submit anyanimal so entered by him or her to inspection by a veterinarian appointed by the KCSSA,and agrees to have such animal submitted to any tests as may be designated andrequested by the veterinarian, and agrees that the conclusions reached by theveterinarian shall be final, without recourse against the KCSSA, or any of its officers, directors, or employees.

Failure to cooperatewith testing procedures, or any doing or failing to do any act which will make it unreasonablydifficult for the person with the responsibility of taking the sample shall be deemed avoluntary withdrawal by the exhibitor of the animal from the competition. Reinstatement of anyone barred may be made only by the Executive Board.Probation: An exhibitor may be placed on a probationary status if results of drug testsare inconclusive, confirmation of a primary test cannot be granted, or anothersituation questioning the ethical fitting of livestock arises. The probation grants theright for the KCSSA to collect ultrasound, D.N.A., blood, tissue and/or urine samplesfor laboratory analysis on any animal entered by an exhibitor on probation at theexhibitor’s expense.
