2019 GRAND FINAL
PROGRAM
What a great Rhino Finals Series we’ve had so far. Week one
certainly produced some entertaining close results which
followed on into the following weeks.
We are back at Bailey Reserve, for the Senior Grand Finals. I
would like to take this opportunity to thank all volunteers who
have worked on the 2019 finals series, making it a special
experience for the players and supporters involved.
This finals period is about a celebration of Rugby, acknowledging your achievements on
and off the field in 2018; I would like to congratulate Blair Marshall (Burnside) for winning
the Don Smith Medal, Lewis Adcock (Woodville) Premier 2 Best & Fairest and Laura Helbig
(Burnside) for winning the Edna Riley Best & Fairest.
On behalf of Rugby Union SA I would like to extend a special thank you to our growing list
of sponsors, in particular our premier partners, Coopers, Voiteck, O’Neill’s and Office for
Recreation and Sport. Congratulations to all teams competing for the flags today, I wish
you all the best of luck. Finally, thank you to the staff of Rugby Union SA for the hours put
in behind the scenes, and to the countless number of volunteers for getting and keeping
the players on the field and the hours you have given up for the 2019 season.
Today is a special day for the entire rugby community. Sadly, not everyone has made the
grand final but not for a lack of effort. Everyone has worked so hard this year at all levels to
continue to develop, grow and enjoy this very special game, which for many of us is more
than just a game. It’s a way of life, embracing all of the values and traditions but most
importantly the comradeships and in many instances friendships for life.
It has been a cracker of a season with some brilliant rugby and I am sure with all of the
games being played today you will not be disappointed.
I wish to congratulate all teams in making the grand final today and wish you good rugby
and good luck in bringing the silverware home, but not at the expense of decency and
respect for the opposition, the referees, linesmen and women, and
most importantly each other as spectators.
