The offi ce members handle all sport and department communications and media relations needs, and work to serve the working media.

Credentials Requests for season and single-game credentials should be emailed to the appropriate communications representative at least 48 hours prior to the requested event. Due to space limitations, credentials will be issued to full-time journalists from media outlets that cover Liberty Athletics regularly and substantially or to representatives who regularly and customarily perform services for that outlet.

Work-Related Equipment BagsMembers of the media will be allowed to bring work-related equipment bags (laptop computers, radio/TV broadcast equipment, still and video cameras, etc.) through Media entrance near the East Ticket Booth. Work-related equipment bags will be searched by Williams Stadium security.

Postgame InterviewsPostgame interviews are held on the fi rst fl oor of the Liberty Football Center. Todd Wetmore, Liberty Associate AD for Communications, will ask for requests during the fourth quarter of the contest.

PhotographersLiberty University strictly enforces a photo credential approval policy designed to best allocate working credentials for photographers to maximize coverage in a safe, professional working environment. Unfortunately, it is not possible to accommodate all requests. Due to limited space, credentials will generally not be issued to freelance photographers without a specifi c assignment received in writing from the assigning organization. Photographers are to stay behind the red line that surrounds the playing fi eld and are not allowed in the team box on either sideline at Williams Stadium and are prohibited from going on the fi eld at any time. The designated work area for photographers during the 2019 season is on the second fl oor of the Williams Stadium Carter Tower.

matchup notes“4 DOWNS” WITH THE AGGIES

Liberty will try to become the fi rst road team to win a game during its head-to-head series with New Mexico State. Aggie senior Jason Huntley is tied for No. 1 in program history with fi ve kickoff returns for TDs, including one for 85 yards at Liberty on Nov. 24, 2018. The Flames

rank No. 5 nationally for kickoff return defense (13.0) this season and have not allowed a return longer than 17 yards.

Liberty is playing only its second road game of the season. The Flames just wrapped up a three-game homestand and have played four of their fi rst fi ve contests at Williams Stadium. Two of Frankie Hickson's seven career 100-yard games have come against New Mexico

State. He totaled 51 carries for 271 yards and a TD versus the Aggies in 2018, including a career-high 155-yard eff ort in Las Cruces.

New Mexico State topped Utah State 26-20 in the 2017 Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl, remaining unbeaten (3-0-1) all-time in bowl games. However, the Aggies have fi nished with three or fewer victories in six of the last seven seasons and are still in search of their fi rst tri-

umph of 2019.

If Liberty is victorious on Saturday, it would give the Flames a 4-1 record against opponents from the Land of Enchantment (2-0 vs. New Mexico and 2-1 vs. New Mexico State). New Mexico State has failed to record a fi rst down on its opening drive for four straight games, while

Liberty has scored a TD on its fi rst possession during three of its last four outings.

LAST MEETING WITH NEW MEXICO STATE

NOV. 24, 2018LIBERTY 28, NEW MEXICO STATE 21LYNCHBURG, VA. (WILLIAMS STADIUM)

• After yielding 567 yards and 49 points during a loss at New Mexico State seven weeks earlier, Liberty limited the Ag-gies to only one off ensive touchdown (with 1:46 left).

• Three defensive/special teams TDs were scored during the fi rst quarter, including INT returns by both teams and a kickoff return for a TD for the Aggies.

• Frankie Hickson posted his second 100-yard rushing game against New Mexico State on the season (27 carries, 116 yards), while Stephen Calvert threw a pair of TD passes for the Flames.

A Liberty Win Would ...

• Extend the Flames' winning streak to four games, their longest as an FBS member and their longest overall since a fi ve-game streak spanning Oct. 1-Nov. 5, 2016.

• Snap the Flames' fi ve-game road losing streak and im-prove their road record as an FBS member to 2-6.

• Give the Flames their fi rst 4-2 start to a season since the 2010 squad also opened at 4-2. Hugh Freeze was also 4-2 through his fi rst six games at both Lambuth (2008) and Arkansas State (2011).

• Improve the Flames' all-time record when playing more than 1,000 miles away from home to 4-7.

• Give the Flames their second straight victory when match-ing up with an FBS independent team after losing their fi rst seven such meetings in program history.

• Extend New Mexico State's overall losing streak to eight straight games, dating back to last season.

today's game at a glance

2: The 2019 season is Liberty's second as an FBS member, following 30 seasons of competition at the FCS (1-AA) level.

6: The 2018 Flames went 6-6, becoming the ninth team in NCAA history to win six or more games during its fi rst season of FBS competition.

7: Seven Flames have been selected in the NFL Draft. Most recently, Walt Aikens was taken by the Miami Dolphins in the fourth round of the 2014 Draft.

8: Liberty won eight Big South Conference titles (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016).

9: Hugh Freeze is Liberty's ninth head coach in pro-gram history.

10: Liberty won a program-record 10 games in 2008, fi nishing at 10-2.

10: Ten 2019 Flames (Elij ah Benton, Michael Choro-wicz, Ethan Crawford, Rion Davis, Dontae Duff , Zac Foutz, Frankie Hickson, Sam Isaacson, Damian King and Thomas Sargeant) have completed bachelor's degrees and are currently working toward mas-ter's degrees.

13: The Flames have posted a .500 or bett er record for 13 consecutive seasons (2006-18), going 94-55 during that span.

47: The 2019 campaign is Liberty’s 47th football sea-son.

25,000: The seating capacity of Williams Stadium was expanded to 25,000 for the 2018 season. The Flames have welcomed 20,000+ fans to Williams Stadium on seven occasions, including a stadi-um-record 22,551 for a Sept. 19, 2015 victory over Montana.

LIBERTY FOOTBALL BY THE NUMBERS

TWICE THE FUNLiberty and New Mexico State are meeting on Satur-day for the fi rst of two times this season. The Aggies will head to Lynchburg for both teams' regular-season fi nale on Nov. 30.

The two teams also squared off twice in 2018, marking the fi rst time the Flames ever played the same oppo-nent twice in a single season.

New Mexico State posted a 49-41 shootout victory in Las Cruces on Oct. 6, 2018 in a game which saw the two teams combine for 1,085 yards of off ense.

Liberty returned the favor at home with a 28-21 tri-umph on Nov. 24, 2018, limiting the Aggies to one of-fensive touchdown.

It is believed that the Flames and Aggies were the fi rst Division I football teams to match up twice within the same regular season since 1998, when UConn beat UMass on both Oct. 24 and Nov. 21.

ROAD WARRIORSLiberty is traveling more than 1,000 miles for the sec-ond straight time to open its 2019 road schedule. The Flames are 3-7 in program history when venturing more than 1,000 miles from Lynchburg.

Sept. 7, 1991 - 35-14 loss at Boise StateSept. 18, 1993 - 17-14 win at Texas StateSept. 24, 1994 - 35-7 loss at Boise StateNov. 21, 1998 - 45-35 loss at Cal PolySept. 15, 2012 - 34-14 loss at MontanaSept. 17, 2016 - 29-14 loss at SMUSept. 2, 2017 - 48-45 win at BaylorSept. 29, 2018 - 52-43 win at New MexicoOct. 6, 2018 - 49-41 loss at New Mexico StateSept. 7, 2019 - 35-14 loss at Louisiana

For the fi rst time in program history, Liberty will travel 1,000+ miles for three road games in a single season. The Flames' third lengthy road trip will come on Nov. 9 at BYU.

CLIMB EVERY MOUNTAINLiberty is 1-4 all-time when playing a game in the Mountain Time Zone.

Sept. 7, 1991 - 35-14 loss at Boise StateSept. 24, 1994 - 35-7 loss at Boise StateSept. 15, 2012 - 34-14 loss at MontanaSept. 29, 2018 - 52-43 win at New MexicoOct. 6, 2018 - 49-41 loss at New Mexico State

The Flames will return to the Mountain Time Zone on Nov. 9 to play at BYU.

CHARTING THE COACHESHugh Freeze is 1-0 when coaching against Doug Mar-tin, thanks to Ole Miss' 52-3 home win over New Mexi-co State on Oct. 10, 2015.

Martin is 2-1 when facing Liberty. Prior to last year's split with the Flames, he coached Kent State to a 38-10 victory over Liberty on Sept. 11, 2004.

STREAKS AT STAKELiberty has won three straight games for the fi rst time since 2017 and is seeking its fi rst four-game winning streak since 2016.

However, the Flames have lost fi ve consecutive road games, a streak which began at New Mexico State on Oct. 6, 2018. Liberty's last road victory and its only tri-umph away from Lynchburg as an FBS member came in a 52-43 triumph at New Mexico on Sept. 29, 2018.

New Mexico State is aiming to snap a seven-game los-ing streak which dates back to last season. The Aggies' last victory was a 52-42 home triumph over Alcorn State on Nov. 3, 2018. New Mexico State's most recent win over an FBS opponent was its 49-41 home victory over Liberty on Oct. 6, 2018.

MAKING CONNECTIONSNew Mexico State defensive coordinator Frank Spa-ziani and Liberty co-off ensive coordinator Kent Austin have met in the CFL several times. Spaziani was de-fensive coordinator for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1992-93) and Calgary Stampeders (1994-96). During that time, Austin played QB for Saskatoon (1987-93), B.C. (1994), Toronto (1995) and Winnipeg (1996).

New Mexico State RB Alex Escobar, LB Jacob Franklin and Liberty DB Isaac Steele all went to Centennial High School in Phoenix.

New Mexico State LS Austin Reeves and Liberty LB Christian Launius were teammates at Davidson Day School (Davidson, N.C.).

New Mexico State QB Luke Wilson and Liberty OL Tristan Schultz and RB Domonhic Jennings all played at Fork Union Military Academy.

New Mexico State OL Sage Doxtater and Liberty OL John Kourtis both went to Canada Prep Academy (Ni-agara Falls, Ontario). New Mexico State LB Michael Bowe, Jr., Liberty WR Kevin Shaa, CB Isaiah Avery and CB Bejour Wilson all went to City College of San Francisco. New Mexico State OL Blake Walker and Liberty DL Jes-se Lemonier and Liberty OL Maisen Knight all went to Ventura College (Ventura, Calif.).

New Mexico State DL Tevan McAdams and Liberty RB Peytt on Pickett both played at Trinity Valley Community College (Athens, Texas).

TWO OF A KINDLiberty and New Mexico State are two of six FBS in-dependent teams, along with Army, BYU, Notre Dame and UMass.

Both the Flames and Aggies have faced New Mexico in recent weeks.

Host New Mexico outlasted New Mexico State for a 55-52 victory on Sept. 21. One week later, the Lobos traveled to Liberty, where the Flames prevailed 17-10.

6: RB Frankie Hickson needs six all-purpose yards to move past Adrian Cherry and into fourth place on the Flames' all-time list.

9/65/100: With nine receptions, WR Antonio Gandy-Golden would join Darrin Peterson as the only Flames ever to catch 200 career passes. Gandy-Gold-en needs 65 receiving yards to break Peterson's Lib-erty career record in the category. If Gandy-Golden posts a 100-yard receiving game, it would be his fourth in a row and the 15th of his career, matching Peterson's program record for 100-yard outings.

13: DL Jessie Lemonier is 13 tackles away from be-coming the fourth active Flame with 100+ career stops.

242: QB Stephen Calvert is 242 passing yards away from joining Josh Woodrum as the only Flames ever to throw for 10,000 career yards. He would also be-come the third active FBS signal caller with 10,000 passing yards.

Off ense• The Flames are coming off their third-straight game where they posted 400 or more yards of total off ense (Buff alo 57 plays, 401 yards; Hampton 55 plays, 575 yards; New Mexico 67 plays, 466 yards).• Liberty is 3-0 this year when fi nishing a game with 400-plus total off ensive yards, averaging 480.7 yards per game during its current three-game winning streak.• The New Mexico game snapped a three-game stretch where the Flames had scored on the opening drive of a game. • The Flames have fi nished the last three games passing for 300 or more yards and are depending heavily on their pass-ing game this season – 69.1 percent of Liberty’s total off ensive yards this season have come through the air (1,407-of-2,037 yards). • Liberty is coming off its second-best rushing performance of the season against New Mexico (31 carries for 160 yards) and its third performance where the Flames have averaged 5.0 or more yards per carry (5.1 vs. Louisiana, 6.7 vs. Hampton and 5.2 vs. New Mexico). • Liberty has outscored its opponents 97-53 during the fi rst half in 2019. Conversely, Liberty’s opponents are outscoring the Flames 60-31 during the second half. • The New Mexico game marked the fi rst time this season Lib-erty did not allow a sack.

The Lobos scored their only touchdown with 43 seconds left.• New Mexico entered last weekend’s game as the only FBS team in the country to have not allowed a sack in 2019. The Flames ended the streak, fi nishing the game with two sacks to give Liberty fi ve games in a row with more than one sack.• The Flames continue to be one of the toughest teams in the country inside the 20-yard line, as Liberty ranks No. 6 in red zone defense (60.0 percent/9-of-15 drives). New Mexico scored on 1-of-3 red zone trips last weekend, gett ing a pass-ing touchdown with 43 seconds in the contest. • After recording a pair of interceptions against New Mexico, Liberty now ranks No. 8 in the country in passes intercepted (6 INTs through four games).

Special Teams• Following the Hampton game where Liberty averaged 45.5 yards per punt, Aidian Alves and long snapper Austin Mock, both redshirt sophomores, were treated to a welcome sur-prise when head coach Hugh Freeze announced both were being put on scholarship. • The Flames could have added a potential of 21 additional points to the scoreboard against Hampton; however, Liberty had three special teams touchdown returns called back due to penalties (64-yard punt return by DJ Stubbs, a 94-yard kickoff return and a 67-yard punt return by Shedro Louis).

FULFILLING THE MISSIONWhen Dr. Jerry Falwell founded then Lynchburg Baptist College in the fall of 1971, he painted a clear vision for its athletics department when he stated, “it is our plan to have our athletic program compa-rable to USC, to Notre Dame, to Alabama, to anyone in time.” Although the athletics department moved to the NCAA Division I level on Sept. 1, 1988, the “time” Dr. Falwell spoke about is now. The Flames football program played its fi rst season at the FBS level in 2018, taking the next step to fulfi ll its found-er’s visionary dream.

qb stephen calvert/wr antonio gandy-golden

20-15Calvert's career record as a starting quarterback. He has started 35 straight games since taking over as the starter as a true freshman against Robert Morris on Oct. 1, 2016.

5 TDsCalvert threw for a career-high fi ve TDs twice in 2017, including Sept. 9 vs. Morehead State and Oct. 21 at Monmouth. It is just one off of the school single-game record and the most by a Flame since Biff Parson's fi ve TD passes against Wingate in 2000.

44 CompletionsCalvert completed a Liberty and Big South-record 44 passes during a season-opening victory at Baylor on Sept. 2, 2017. He shatt ered the previous Liberty mark of 34 completions, set twice by Josh Woodrum (2012 and 2015).

60 Att emptsCalvert's career-high 60 pass att empts at Baylor on Sept. 2, 2017 were another school record, eclipsing the previous standard of 57. Phil Basso was the most recent Flame to throw 57 passes, doing so against Central State in 1983.

447 Passing YardsCalvert's third program record at Baylor on Sept. 2, 2017 came courtesy of his 447 passing yards. He took down the Liberty mark of 441 yards set by Phil Basso against Carson-Newman in 1984.

15 300-Yard GamesCalvert has thrown for 300+ yards 15 times in his ca-reer, including three 400-yard outings. He passed for a Liberty freshman-record 350 yards during an Oct. 22, 2016 victory over Monmouth. He holds the Liberty record for most career 300-yard games.

13 ReceptionsGandy-Golden hauled in a career-high 13 receptions during the Flames' 2017 season-opening triumph at Baylor (Sept. 2, 2017).

245 Receiving YardsGandy-Golden set a Liberty single-game record for receiving yards (245) on his 11 receptions at New Mexico on Sept. 29, 2018. It eclipsed the Flames' pre-vious standard of 240, set by Chris Summers against Stony Brook in 2011.

14 100-Yard GamesGandy-Golden sits in second place on Liberty's all-time list with 14 career 100-yard receiving games. Darrin Peterson owns the Flames' record with 15 100-yard outings.

2 200-Yard GamesGandy-Golden owns a pair of 200-yard receiving con-tests, including his school-record 245-yard outing at New Mexico (Sept. 29, 2018) and a 205-yard perfor-mance at UMass (Nov. 3, 2018). Chris Summers is the only other Flame ever to post two 200-yard games during his career.

28 TDs from BuckshotAll 28 of Gandy-Golden's career receiving touch-downs (and 188 of his 191 career receptions) have been thrown by classmate Stephen Buckshot Calvert.
