Dear 2019 STEM Leadership Alliance Participant, We would like to begin by thanking of all you for your commitment to STEM education. We have over 28 states, 1 U.S. territory, and countries from around the world attending the Summit. Together we have the opportunity to impact over 1 million students in not just thinking of STEM as an acronym, but actually understanding integrated STEM and using that knowledge to be the problem solvers, critical thinkers, and future leaders in STEM. The STEM Leadership Alliance started earlier this year with a groundbreaking meeting that occurred with the STEM Executive Directors from the five major STEM organizations: National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), National Council of Teachers of Math (NCTM), International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA) and American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). The focus was on integrated STEM. The conversation on education reform has occurred for over 40 years, enough with the talk, it is time for action. And that is exactly what the STEM Leadership Alliance is about. Already, individuals, districts, companies and organizations are stating that this is truly monumental and education needs to connect to community so students understand how education connects to the real world. That is why we are focused on three principles to drive integrated STEM education.

Principle 1: Integrated STEM education should advance the learning of each individual STEM discipline

Principle 2: Integrated STEM education should provide logical and authentic connections between and across the individual STEM disciplines

Principle 3: Integrated STEM education should serve as a bridge to STEM careers Each day we will explore one of the principles and on the last day you will have planning time so you will be able to take your learnings and apply them back to your environment. You are part of this transformation because we are using this as a kick-off to showcase the importance of integrated STEM and how we can learn with and from each other to re-engineer STEM. This is not a conference, it is a summit, we will produce tangible outcomes that you will pilot and continue during the year and share the progress the following year. We have an incredible line-up of presenters including NASA, the Smithsonian, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, just to highlight a few. This will be a week that will expand your thinking and push you as a leader. So, get ready because we promise, this will be a week you will not forget. We thank you all for your commitment to STEM education and we are honored to be with you on this journey. Warm Regards, Kelli List Wells Chair, STEM Leadership Alliance Summit Salvador A. Fernandez Co-Chair, STEM Leadership Alliance Summit
