Organization Name Mission/Activities 2019-20 AllocationAsk Big Questions Ask Big Questions Fellowship/Internship is an opportunity for students

to challenge each other to think outside of the box in conversation. It is a chance to master some powerful skills, form deep connections, build community on campus and learn about yourself.

Ask Big Questions Conversations create a safe space for people to share ideas on topics that they wouldn't have the opportunity to discuss otherwise. We discuss quetions such as "What informs your identity?" "For whom are we responsible?" and "Are we free?". The creation of safe spaces on our campus is neccesary in order to be able to hear opinions that differ from the majority. A place in which someone who is often the minority can openly share their views and experiences allows for people who are generally part of the majority to widen their world view and understanding. Safe spaces exist for many minority groups, however ABQ conversations differ because they are not only a safe space for minorities they are a safe space for people of all backgrounds to come together and have these meaningful conversations so that everyone involved may leave with a new perspective. At a campus that can sometimes seem rather lacking in diversity, Ask Big Questions strives to create a sense of diversity through our facilitated conversations.

In the past Ask Big Questions has organized a multitude of conversations across campus on various topics for various groups. We hosted conversations for most of the cultural months, for organizations on camps such as LGBTA, SERVE, and VT Engage. If you would like ABQ to lead a conversation for your organization or at an event you are holding contact us!

Open Dialogue, Ideas, & News ODIN is a podcast production and music appreciation club that brings valuable information and open dialogue to Virginia Tech and the surrounding community. We hope to foster within individuals an ability to recognize and follow meaning in their lives how they see fit. We have found the intersection of music and in-depth discussions to be a place of maximal meaning and want to share this with everyone. Discussing a wide range of topics, exploring ancient wisdom, and gaining a deeper appreciation for music is the focus of our organization. Together they coalesce into a holistic sense of meaningful engagement. This helps us free our minds, expand our perspective, and develop clarity in our life direction.Music is one of the most fascinating experiential phenomena we can access. Something about it seems to pull us beyond the mundane and speak to us on a deeper level. It is an interesting thing, as it has this transcendental element, and you almost never find someone who doesn’t like music. It is a meaningful experience that plays a powerful role in our culture, maybe because it touches something beyond our rational mind. It grounds us, connects us, and has intrinsic meaning that requires no logical reasoning. From this place of meaning new ideas arise; this is where the unknown manifests and leads to the discussion of topics that can shed new light on the world.ODIN is focused on creating that sense of community that has grown ever more elusive in today’s world. To be a sanctuary where individuals can step away from the world together, collect their thoughts, make/listen to music, and articulate a system of shared values. This makes for a more peaceful, understanding community for all of us.
