In 2018, Caroline County recognized the importanceof fostering civility within the community, thegovernment, the schools and on online platforms.Choose Civility Caroline is an initiative between theCaroline County Public Schools and the CarolineCounty Public Library, with support provided by theCaroline County Commissioners. The Choose CivilityPoster Contest, held in the spring of 2018, drew over300 entries, with an amazing array of beautiful andthoughtful work by CCPS students.

As the proud Superintendent of Caroline County Public Schools, it is mypleasure to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year. At CCPS, we value 21st Century learning. The Essentials for Learningmovement, begun in 2017, improves the way students are learning in theclassroom. From pre-kindergarten through graduation, we are teachingrigorous academic standards in ways that incorporate the skills studentsneed to be successful in the classroom and in the workplace. This schoolyear marks the third year of E4L, and we look forward to sharing with ourcommunity news of our progress, successes, and challenges. We are blessed in Caroline to have a highly qualified and dedicatedfaculty and staff who believe in the amazing potential of over 5,600students. We value the partnerships we have with our elected officials,law enforcement, and community agencies that work with us in the bestinterest of our students. Most of all, we are fortunate to have familiesthat are supportive of our schools, and a high level of engagement fromcommunity and business partners. The Caroline County Board of Education provides leadership and oversight for the CarolineCounty Public Schools by setting goals, establishing policies, and committing resources tobenefit our students. The Board generally conducts their regular meeting the first Tuesdayof every month, and often holds a work session the third Tuesday of every month. 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year
Shawn Parks, a 28 year veteran of the classroom, is an English Language Arts (ELA)teacher at Lockerman Middle School. Through her creation and use of progressive levelsbased on ELA standards, Mrs. Parks equips students' learning by coaching them to tracktheir progress and motivating them to pursue next steps towards mastery. She modelsthe concepts of peer coaching and professional collaboration and has presented atnumerous conferences. Mrs. Parks will represent CCPS throughout the school year in theMaryland Teacher of the Year program.
The Board includes two highschool student representativesthat attend meetings and shareinformation gathered from allschools. The 2019-2020 studentrepresentatives are Haley Gauck,North Caroline High School, and Isha Sehar, Colonel RichardsonHigh School.

CCPS transports approximately 5,600children on 57 buses to and fromschool, traveling over 3,300 milesevery school day. Each school day, CCPS serves more than 3,650 lunches and provides free breakfast inthe classroom to all students, through the Maryland Meals for Achievement Program.35% of the food served in our cafeterias is produced locally. What we strive for:
