2019-2020 Scholarship Opportunities Thank you for your interest in scholarship opportunities offered through the Community Foundation of Louisville. Below you will find additional details pertaining to each scholarship fund at the Community Foundation. We are proud to provide opportunities for students to further their education and pursue their dreams. Description: The 15,000 Degrees Scholarship Fund was established to actively engage and mobilize Louisville's

African-American community in support of 55,000 Degrees - Greater Louisville's Education Commitment. 15,000

Degrees seeks to add 15,000 additional post-secondary degrees to Louisville's African-American community by

2020.

Eligibility: African-American descent; Demonstrate financial need; Plan to attend one of the following

colleges/universities: University of Louisville, Bellarmine University, Sullivan University, Spalding University, Kentucky

State University, Jefferson Community & Technical College, Simmons College of Kentucky, Indiana University

Southeast, or Ivy Tech Community College (Sellersburg, IN campus).

Description: The Alden Scholarship Fund was established by William O. Alden, Jr. to support outstanding Kentucky residents attending undergraduate or graduate school in the state of Kentucky. Eligibility: Resident of Kentucky; Attending a college or university in Kentucky (preference given to University of Kentucky or University of Louisville); Cumulative 3.0 GPA; Studying Business Administration. Description: The Bill & Mary Brey Ag Scholarship Fund was established to provide scholarship assistance in the form of grants to help defray college or university expenses for students graduating from high schools located in Owensboro or Daviess County, Kentucky. Eligibility: Graduating senior from a high school in Owensboro or Daviess County, Kentucky; Cumulative 2.5 GPA; Pursuing a degree in the area of agriculture (the science, art, and business of cultivating soil, producing crops, and raising livestock); Attending a college or university in Kentucky; Preference given to students of Trinity High School in Whitesville, Kentucky. How to Apply: The General Scholarship Application, which includes the Bill & Mary Brey Ag Scholarship, will open

*** BOLD Promise Scholarship Fund

Description: The BOLD Promise Scholarship Fund was established to provide scholarship assistance in the form of

grants to help defray college or university expenses for students from Daviess County, Kentucky who will be

attending a post-secondary educational institution. Moreover, the purpose of the Bold Promise Scholarship is to

increase the population of the work ready community through attainment of certificates, diplomas, and degrees.

Eligibility: Daviess County, KY residents who either 1) left college in good standing with 12 or fewer credit hours needed for completion of a program of study or 2) have completed at least 24 credit hours and have a demonstrated need for assistance to complete their education. Eligible colleges/universities must be accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The only exception will be for students who are attempting to complete a program not offered at a college or university located in Daviess County, Kentucky, in which case grants may be considered for completion at another regionally accredited institution. Brandon Ray Tong Memorial Scholarship Fund

Description: The Brandon Ray Tong Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to provide scholarship assistance in the form of grants to help defray expenses of any full-time two-year or four-year college or university for a senior graduating from St. Francis DeSales High School in Jefferson County, Kentucky, who has been diagnosed with a learning difference or disability or who struggles with academics. *** Brian Jennemann Memorial Scholarship Fund

Description: The Brian Jennemann Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by his family and friends to honor his life and commitment to helping others. Brian was a dedicated Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with the Jefferson County Emergency Medical Services. Specifically, this fund is designed to provide scholarship assistance in the form of grants to help defray expenses of students attending the Certified Paramedic Training Program at Jefferson Community and Technical College. Eligibility: Age 18 years or older; Accepted into the Certified Paramedic Training Program at JCTC; Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT); Demonstrates financial need; Completion of essay. He was a student of Fern Creek Junior Marine Corps ROTC program. He believed in honor, loyalty, integrity, and discipline. Specifically, this fund was designed to provide scholarship assistance in the form of grants to help defray college or university expenses to an outstanding senior within a Junior Marine Corps ROTC unit. Brigadier General Ronald R. Van Stockum Scholarship Fund

Description: The Brigadier General Ronald R. Van Stockum Scholarship Fund was established to provide scholarship assistance in the form of grants to help defray college or university expenses of a graduating high school senior from Shelby County High School Marine Corps JROTC unit who has the highest grade point average in all studies including the ROTC unit. Description: The Charles A. Reid Memorial Scholarship was established by Mrs. Marjorie Reid in loving memory of her husband. Mr. Reid was very involved in the Owensboro community and served on the Owensboro-Daviess County Community Foundation (currently the Green River Area Community Foundation) for several years. Mr. Reid was concerned about the Owensboro community, children's education, and particularly fond of Brescia University. Eligibility: Resident of Kentucky; Graduating high school senior from Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, McCracken, Warren, or Webster Counties in Kentucky; Enrolled to attend Brescia University in the fall semester following graduation; Cumulative 3.0 GPA; preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need. Christine Jansing Memorial Scholarship Fund

Description: The Christine Jansing Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to honor Ms. Jansing, who was a beloved teacher and counselor at Atherton High School. She taught chemistry and was an avid player of the violin and viola. Specifically, the fund was designed to provide scholarship assistance in the form of grants to help defray college or university expenses for Atherton High School graduating seniors who excel in chemistry and classical stringed instruments. Each year, the selection committee shall select one student in each category to receive the scholarship awards. Eligibility: Graduating senior from Atherton High School in Louisville, KY; Enrolled to attend a college, university, or community college; Demonstrate excellence in chemistry and/or a classical stringed instrument. Description: The C.L. Smith Scholarship Fund was established to honor Lieutenant Colonel Clarence L. Smith USMC (Ret.). Lt. Col. Smith was the first instructor of the Marine Corps Junior ROTC program at Fern Creek High School in Louisville, Kentucky. He was instrumental in building the program from its founding to a national accredited unit. In doing so, he established a standard based upon the principals of loyalty, integrity, and discipline. Eligibility: Graduating senior from Fern Creek High School in Louisville, Kentucky; Cumulative 2.5 GPA; Member of the Junior Marine ROTC program; Enrolled at an accredited college, university, technical, or trade school on a full-time basis; demonstrate financial need. Eligibility: Student must be enrolled or entering as an undergraduate or an advanced degree program in the respective institution’s food program in preparation for a career in the food industry; Cumulative GPA of 2.0.

Description: The Clay V. & Jennie Ree Watson Scholarship Fund was established to provide grants to help defray the post-secondary educational expenses for residents of McLean County, Kentucky. Mr. and Mrs. Watson both taught for many years and sought to support people in their county. Eligibility: Resident of McLean County, Kentucky; Enrolled full-time to attend an accredited two or four-year college, university, or trade school; Cumulative 2.5 GPA; Demonstrate financial need. Description: The Danny Sherman Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by Mr. and Mrs. Sherman in memory of their son, Danny, who was an exceptional and active student at St. Albert the Great Parish School and St. Xavier High School. Specifically, this fund was designed to provide scholarship assistance in the form of grants to help defray tuition expenses of graduates of St. Albert the Great Parish School to attend St. Xavier High School in Louisville, KY. Eligibility: Graduating eighth grade male students of St. Albert the Great Parish School who exhibit positive personal traits as well as academic achievement. Description: The Darcy Blair Memorial Educational Fund was established by the family of Dr. Darcy Blair with the many contributions made by her teachers, patients, and friends who remembered her as someone who felt she had a responsibility to be a positive influence in the world. The fund had been conceptualized by Dr. Blair several years before she was diagnosed with cancer. She had written a plan to create an opportunity fund that would help young women pursue an interest in addition to their formal education, which would otherwise not be possible, such as extracurricular or life experience activities, travel, or studying a foreign language.

Denise Fleck Memorial Scholarship Fund

Description: The Denise Fleck Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by her family to honor a courageous woman dedicated to the prevention and intervention of tobacco use by teens. Denise was instrumental in the implementation of the “Teens Against Tobacco Use” program in Kentucky and worked extensively with many health-related organizations. This scholarship fund is designed to provide scholarship assistance in the form of grants to help defray college or university expenses of students who are actively involved in community service activities for the prevention and intervention of tobacco use by their peers. Eligibility: Resident of Kentucky; Actively involved with tobacco prevention programs or activities (ex: Teens Against Tobacco Use Program); Graduating senior from a high school in Kentucky; Cumulative 2.5 GPA and in good academic standing; Financial need will be considered, but is not a requirement. Description: The Doris Owen Bickel Charitable Endowment Fund was established to provide scholarship assistance in the form of grants to help defray college or university expenses of students who demonstrate talent, accomplishment, and financial need, and are enrolled in the University of Louisville’s School of Music studying Classical Music. Description: The Dorothy P. King Charitable Endowment for Dance was established to honor the memory of Dorothy Powell King, who was a model, realtor, bookkeeper, and dancer. She danced throughout her lifetime, beginning with ballet as a child and continuing with ballroom dancing into her later years. Specifically, this fund is designed to provide scholarship assistance in the form of grants to help defray tuition and related expenses of dance students from the Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville, Kentucky, who have been accepted and will be attending a summer dance program or dance conservatory. Description: The Dr. Hugh Williams Traveling Scholarship Fund was designed to provide scholarship assistance in the form of grants to surgical residents at the University of Louisville to receive additional training in their specialties anywhere in the United States or abroad.

Description: The Dr. LL Cull Health Care Scholarship Fund was established by Alice Ann Cull Sanders in memory of her father. This fund provides assistance to graduating seniors from Franklin County public high schools who have chosen a career in the health care field. Eligibility: Graduating high school senior from a Franklin County public high school; Chosen a career in any area of the health care field (for example, but not limited to, x-ray technician, doctor, speech pathology, or any level of nursing training); Demonstrate good character and sufficient academic aptitude to indicate a probability of success in their chosen field. How to Apply: The General Scholarship Application, which includes the Dr. L.L. Cull Health Care Scholarship, will

Description: The Dunaway Scholarship Fund was established in 2004 by Samuel M. Dunaway to provide educational grants to graduating seniors from any high school located in Breckinridge, Butler, Edmonson, Grayson, Hancock, and Ohio Counties in Kentucky. The scholarship is based on financial need and recipients will be selected on their determination and ability to successfully complete the degree and/or education program to which they are enrolled. Eligibility: Graduating high school senior; Resident of Breckenridge, Butler, Edmonson, Grayson, Hancock, or Ohio Counties in KY; Demonstrate financial need.
