North Bay Corvette Association General Meeting Minutes

March 13, 2019 President: Ken Albers called the meeting to order and asked for officer’s reports. Membership Director: Barbara Boyer was not able to be present. There was a guest present and Jeff Farber introduced him, Jeff Redman, to the Club members. Jeff Redman lives in central Marin County, has a 2016 blue Sting Ray coupe. He went to the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School for Corvette owners and has participated in a couple autocrosses. Ken then introduced another guest present, Helen Landis, the Events Director for WSCC. She had a presentation for the members. On April 28th, the day before Easter, WSCC will be hosting a Funkana. What is a Funkanna? It’s an automotive activity that combines driving dexterity, navigational skills, mental and physical coordination on behalf of both the driver and the navigator, team work, luck, and above all, a sense of humor. It is supposed to be FUN. It will be held in the back of the San Joaquin Fairgrounds in Stockton. Each run will be from 2 to 3 minutes in length, depending on how skilled you are in maneuvering the course. Helen showed two brief videos of Funkanas that she brought with her. No seatbelts, helmets or roll bars are required. You do have to have a passenger. It is a timed event. It will be a social event. It will be a free event. Box lunches will be provided. F. H. Dailey Chevrolet is sponsoring the event. Fill out the registration form on-line, save it as a document on your computer then email it to Helen at: [email protected] or [email protected]. Her cell phone number is 510-220-0002. Autocross awards for the past year will be passed out during lunch. Secretary: Steve Boyer was not able to be present. Ken stated that the minutes from last month’s meeting were published in last month’s newsletter. He asked for questions, comments, criticisms or complaints. Neil Andersen moved to accept the minutes as published in the newsletter. The motion was seconded by Paul Schofield and passed unanimously. Director of Publications: Heather Torres was unable to be present. Eric said that the deadline for the next newsletter is March 29th, the Friday after the Board of Directors meeting, in either Word or PDF format. Webmaster: Stephen Buttrick was not able to be present. Public Relations Director: Bill Donnelly reported: This past month, he has handed out invoices to all advertisers and sponsors. We should be collection $1,900 for all of the advertisers and sponsors combined. Bill’s Brain Teasers in the last newsletter did not have the answer. The question was: What is the oldest still surviving flowering plant? The Magnolia, it’s been around for 100 million years. We are getting lots of people wanting to buy carwashes. You make out a check to North Bay Corvette Association, Bill gives that check to Jeff who cuts a check for half of that amount which Bill takes to Matt and Jeff’s Carwash. We get to keep half of the cost. By the end of the year, we should make quite a bit of money. Bill’s Brain Teaser for tonight: How long can a parrot live?

Page 8: 2019... · 2020. 5. 6. · North Bay Corvette Association General Meeting Minutes March 13, 2019 President: Ken Albers called the meeting to order and asked for officer’s reports

At the Christmas party last December, he received a jigsaw puzzle of a Corvette. His friend, Linda, put it together and glued it together in a frame. He will be hanging it in his play room. Member at Large: Neil Andersen had nothing to report. He has not gotten any pictures yet. Neil had agreed to ask Ralph about borrowing the green pylons from Delta Corvettes. Ralph is asking the club to see if that would be OK. He will get back to Neil later. Treasurer: Jeff Farber reported: We still have a good balance in our checking account. Marci Albers moved to accept the financial report. The Motion passed. Social Director: Steve Jackson reported: Saturday, March 16th, will be our March social event, a St. Pattie’s Day Party at Finnigan’s in Novato with corned-beef and cabbage. Other menu items will be available for those who do not eat corned-beef and cabbage. A signup sheet was passed around. Steve will lead a drive from the theater’s parking lot on Smith Ranch Road and go up to Novato. The date is March 16th at 2:00 pm at Finnigan’s, 12:30 is the time to gather at Smith Ranch Road for the drive out to Pt Reyes and back. Our first Drive-N-Dine will be Tuesday, April 2nd, we will meet at the Century Theaters on Smith Ranch Road at 6:00 and leave there at 6:15. We will be eating in Petaluma. Saturday, April 27th, we will have a drive for lunch out to the coast or up to Kelseyville. He passed around a signup sheet for the events. Also, if you would like to coordinate and lead a Drive-N-Dine, please sign up for that also. We have May through October to sign up for. Steve thanked Bill for hosting the Super Bowl Party at his house. The food was great. He was also thinking about driving to the Cobra Museum on Sunday, May 19th. Sunshine Report: Lynn Larson reported: John Brosnan is still recovering. He has physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. But at least, he’s at home. Vice President: Dan Divita was not able to be present. President: Ken Albers reported: He went to Santa Clara Corvettes’ meeting last week. They are planning to come in mass to our autocross. If you don’t have your hotel reservation at the Super 8 Hotel in Willows, you need to jump on it soon. The touring club in Anderson will be joining us at our autocross. They are making it a points event for their members, so that will encourage most of them to attend. He is planning to attend their meeting next week to see if they can staff registration for their members and bring their registration forms and scoring sheets. April 24th is the Williams run up to Thunder Hill Raceway. Sign up for it through Hooked on Driving at the non-driving events page. There is a link on the WSCC calendar page. Our April meeting of the Board of Directors will be Tuesday instead of Wednesday, April 23rd, because of the Williams Run.

Old Business: There was no additional old business. New Business: Neil moved that the club purchase the liquid refreshments after the meeting. Paul seconded the motion which was approved by all. It will be at Mountain Mike’s Pizza. Announcements: Bill said that he was getting a great deal from Nick at California Tire and Wheel in San Anselmo. They are one of our advertisers. Steve Jackson said that there would NOT be a raffle after the meeting. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, April 10th, in the Margaret Todd Senior Center at 7:00 pm. Poker Faces will be at Bill Donnelly’s house on the last Thursday of the month, which will be March 28th. Jane Rittler moved to adjourn the meeting. Paul Schofield seconded the motion which passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned. Respectfully Submitted, Steve Boyer, Secretary

President’s Report

Marci and I went to the WSCC funkhana in Stockton the day before Easter. The only other North Bay member there was Jeff and his nephew, Nicolas. There were only about 25 cars there which was a shame. The weather was chilly in the morning, but sun came out and it was warmer, but the wind was still cool. This was an interesting and fun event where both the driver and the passenger had chances to either screw up or come out a champion. Although it was a timed event, it probably could have been timed with a sun dial rather than a stop watch! You started with the passenger and a hoola hoop, then throwing tarts, backing up, tossing 3 rings over some rabbit ears, (in the wind!) running a slalom with the passenger doing the steering, then backing up through the same slalom, carrying and egg in a spoon while walking through some tires, still backing up, rolling a tire around the car, going in a circle 3 times forward, grabbing an egg, and finally the driver grabbing a carrot out of a cone, a short slalom and the passenger putting the carrot back onto another cone. It got to be rather comical as different folks tried their hand and sometimes a bit of ingenuity. I’m proud to say that North Bay came out on top. Not us, but Jeff and Nicolas. Congratulations!

Helen also passed out the year end awards for last years autocross season. I will bring them to the meeting, so if you have one coming, be sure to be there. Once again, North Bay was awarded the Most Participating Award, so thank all you autocrossers who made the trek down to Marina for the autocrosses.

Dan, Jeff, Marci and myself joined in on the Williams/Thunderhill run. Lunch was great as usual, and the weather was too. This year seemed to be much prettier than some in the past as all the hills were still very green and lots of wildflowers. A beautiful ride. The ladies in Stonyford put out some of the best cupcakes you could ask for. Dan and I stopped at two each so others could enjoy the treats, but I sure would have liked to go for more. We then took a side trip to an overlook in the Mendocino National Forest, before heading to Thunderhill. We got 4 parade laps, not as fast as in the past. Marci said they did that on purpose so that you would want to sign up for a track day to go faster! I think she was on to something!

Steve’s social to Kelseyville will have happen by the time you read this, and I know it will be a fun run. His next social to the Cobra Experience will be a great one. I have been there and you don’t want to miss this. A lot of beautiful original Cobras. Be sure to mark your calendars for this one.

Save the Wave,

Ken

Social Report

The April social was a run to Lake County to eat lunch at Woody’s Cafegrill & Pub; 3555 Main St, Kelseyville, CA 95451-7430r; and ice cream for dessert at Calistoga Creamery, in Calistoga. We met at the entrance to Port Sonoma. We left with 6 Corvettes, 9 people and headed out toward Napa. We went by Sonoma Raceway and then Hwy 12. Interesting we were behind a double decker tour bus approaching Stornetta’s dairy and got to see the bus tilt at very severe angle. The right side of the bus had wandered off the road. Steve got to see air under the left front tire of the bus. Those on the upper deck probably changed their shorts. The driver corrected and got the bus back on the road successfully without overcorrecting. The trip through Napa was uneventful. We then turned on Silverado trail north to Hwy 128 which took us to by Lake Hennessey were we turned onto Chiles Pope Valley Rd then to Pope Valley Road which then becomes Butts Canyon Rd that terminates in Middletown. We

encountered a real obstacle to our progress about 10 miles out of Pope Valley. A truck spill with a very slippery chemical was going to take an estimated 2 hours to clear. We elected try an alternative route rather than the standard Silverado trail to hwy 29 over the hill into Lake County. So we executed a 6 car U-Turn and retraced out path partway and took Berryessa Knoxville Rd. This route gave us an excellent opportunity to see scenery and the road at 15-30 miles an hour for a large percentage on that road. Once the road improved we were back to 60ish miles an hour for the balance of the trip into Lower

Lake. From there we headed to our original destination in Kelseyville arriving about an hour and a half late. Woody’s had a great selection and every one enjoyed the late lunch. After lunch we headed out to Hwy 29 toward Calistoga. Our destination was Calistoga Creamery where ice cream was the dessert of choice. Everyone headed home from there. The May Drive-and-Dine was Wednesday May 1, 2019. This D&D was led by Jeff and Nora, to McInnis Park in San Rafael. More next month after the D&D. The May Social will be to a Cobra Museum in Martinez CA, located in Contra Costa County north of Concord and Walnut Creek, Sunday May 19, 2019. The museum is only open on the 3rd Sunday of each month. Sunday May 19, 2019 is the date for the May social. Meet at the truck scales on Hwy 37 at 10 am we will leave at 10:15 and should arrive approximately 11am at the museum. I figure we will spend about 1-1.5 hours at the museum. We will leave the museum for lunch by about 12:00. We will be heading east on Hwy 4 to Hwy 160 then Hwy 12 to head into Rio Vista for lunch at Fosters Bighorn. After lunch we will head to Specialty Sales Classics to do something different. Note: there is an admission fee to the museum ranging from $6 to $10. The June D&D will be Wednesday June 5th . We will meet at Century Regency Theater at 280 Smith Ranch Road, San Rafael CA 94903 at 5:45 and will leave at 6pm. The destination is Gotts Roadside in Greenbrae at 302 Bon Air Center, Greenbrae CA 94904. We will be taking a drive to dinner, however the route has not yet been chosen. The June Social will be Saturday June 22, 2019. As of now the destination and entire plan is a surprise even to me. So set aside June 22 for the June Social.

The D&D’s will be regularly scheduled on the first Wednesday of every month, unless otherwise noted. I will have a sign-up sheet at the meetings for the balance of D&D’s each month. May has already been taken. Signup to sponsor a Drive-and-Dine to one of your favorite dining locations. In-order to share your favorite with the club members choose a month to sponsor and select a location. I will have a signup sheet at the meetings or you can call signup for a Drive-and-Dine to sponsor your own Drive-and-Dine. Thanks. If you have any suggestions for social events send me your suggestions. Steve Jackson, NBCA Social Director

Treasurer’s report for May Newsletter April was a pretty quiet month financially. While we have started our Drive n Dine season, these events are not club financial events as each person pays for his and her meal. I've got a new club job for about two months. I'll be responsible for picking up the mail at our San Rafael PO Box. Not much is delivered to our PO Box except on junk mail Tuesday. We do receive or annual club insurance mail each April. Some of our advertisers mail their payments to us, but just about everything else is delivered by email or delivered in person. So I'll drive from Novato to San Rafael to check the box, every few days but at least once a week. It's s Good menial job and I'm going to do my best to not mess it up. Good thing the club doesn't have a garden because I have enough menial work (weed pulling and mowing) to do at my house. I'll call you all when we have some real financial news. Jeff Farber
