The six founding members are Colorado College, University of Denver, Miami University, University of Minnesota Duluth, University of Nebraska Omaha and University of North Dakota. On Sept. 22, 2011, St. Cloud State University and Western Michigan University joined the NCHC to complete the eight-team conference, which held its first season of competition in 2013-14. NCHC teams have won four straight NCAA national championships over the last four seasons with North Dakota the NCHC’s first national champion in 2016, Denver winning in 2017 and Minnesota Duluth capturing the last two NCAA titles. NCHC Tournament FormatAll eight NCHC teams qualify for the tournament with the top four seeds hosting the bottom four teams (#1 vs. #8, #2 vs. #7, etc.) in a best-of-three quarterfi nal series on their campuses March 13-15. The four quarterfi nal winners then advance to Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn. for the NCHC Frozen Faceoff.
