• All seats reserved. Members may request specific seats with subscription order on a first come first served basis.

• SAVE by purchasing a season subscription instead of paying for individual tickets at the door.

• Reception for all season subscribers will follow after the May concert.

• Art galleries as well as the gift shop at the Quick Center are open on concert nights.

A variety of eight programs is offered this season plus a bonus free ninth concert for subscribers. A basic subscription consists of any six programs. Season subscribers may individualize their subscriptions by adding additional program tickets to the basic subscription at a greatly reduced price. Subscribers are encouraged to purchase all eight programs to enjoy the entire season. Individualized season subscriptions may consist of seven or eight programs. The reduced ticket prices apply only to subscription purchases.

Welcome to the 37th FRIENDS of GOOD MUSIC concert season Our hope is that this season will be special for everyone. This is the fourteenth in which we have partnered with the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at St. Bonaventure University. We hope you enjoy the selection of artists offered for this season.

Mission StatementFriends of Good Music is dedicated to providing excellence in programming and performance of classical music that will expand knowledge and appreciation of the performing arts for residents of the Twin Tiers Area.

Be a GOOD FriendSeason subscribers who will not be using one or more of their tickets are asked to call the box office so that their seats may be used for others wishing to attend the concert. If requested, a receipt will be issued for the amount of the tickets as a tax-deductible gift.

“Music from Ecuador:” Rio Mira Ensemble

Named for the river dividing their respective countries, Río Mira brings together the Colombian musician Esteban Copete and Ecuadorian musician Karla Kanora and additional master folkloric musicians from the region. As an ensemble, Río Mira’s cultural identity is rooted in the Pacific Coast of Ecuador and Colombia, with the marimba playing a unifying role in the ensemble’s sound. This bi-national group specializes in crafting contemporary music with traditional sounds that date back hundreds of years.

Argus String QuartetWinner of the 2017 Concert Artists Guild International Competition

Praised for playing with “supreme melodic control and total authority” (Calgary Herald), the Argus Quartet has quickly emerged as one of today’s most dynamic and versatile young ensembles, winning First Prize at both the 2017 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, and the 2017 M-Prize Chamber Arts Competition, and performing in international music centers. The Argus Quartet is the Graduate Quartet in Residence at the Juilliard School, where they are working closely with the Juilliard String Quartet.

Catherine Matejka

Award-winning Broadway star Michel Bell has appeared on telecasts from the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Memorial. He starred in productions of Show Boat, Riverdance and Porgy and Bess around the world and performed in concerts at many prestigious venues. Together with pianist Catherine Matejka he performs Showtunes, Opera arias, and Spirituals. A rousing start into the new season.

A Music City Christmas with Jason Coleman and Meagan Taylor

A Music City Christmas includes a mix of vocal and instrumental songs that celebrate the holiday season. The concert spotlights Meagan and Jason’s vocal harmonies with a variety of pop, country, jazz, and intimate acoustic arrangements of Christmas classics old and new. Also, Meagan’s fingerstyle guitar and Jason’s “slip note” piano pay tribute to the signature sound made famous by Meagan’s uncle, Chet Atkins, and Jason’s grandfather, Floyd Cramer. A Music City Christmas is sure to be an audience favorite!

Broadway’s Next H!T MusicalThe New York Times calls Broadway’s Next H!T Musical “Hilarious!” The hysterical Broadway’s Next H!T Musical is the only unscripted theatrical awards show. Master improvisers gather hit song suggestions from the audience and create a spontaneous evening of music, humor, and laughter. The audience votes for their favorite song and watches as the cast turns it into a full blown improvised musical – complete with memorable characters, witty dialogue, and plot twists galore.

Western New York Chamber Orchestra: “Ebony and Ivory” Conductor: Glen Cortese Pianist: Philip Edward Fisher

This popular ensemble from western New York returns with a program featuring the renowned British pianist Philip Edward Fisher performing Haydn’s Piano Concerto in C and Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto #1. The orchestra rounds out the program with Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances: Suite #3.

Guitar Recital Dimitris Kotronakis

Dimitris Kotronakis is a classical guitarist and musicologist based in Athens. He is a multiple prize winner in many guitar competitions He has performed in numerous guitar recitals throughout Europe and North and South America; and is a frequent soloist with orchestras. He has recorded seven albums of solo and concerto repertoire, mainly for Soundset Recordings, EMI Classics and Clear Note Records.

Janoska Ensemble from Vienna

Musical passion! That nicely sums up the spirit of the “Janoska Style”, with which the Janoska Ensemble has shot to international fame in no time. At each performance the four artists dazzle their audience with their music and their vast reserves of creative energy. This trio of brothers together with their brother-in-law Julius Darvas went gold for Deutsche Grammophon and is bringing down the house at every performance.

Manhattan Piano Trio

Now celebrating its 10th season, MPT is among the busiest groups in the classical music scene, having performed hundreds of concerts for enthusiastic audiences in almost 40 states, and in venues such as Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall, and the Ravinia Festival. The Washington Post described the Trio as “impressive” and “outstanding.”
